I made this exact same point on Facebook. I got a slew of angry messages and I was not just unfriended but blocked by a small number of people.
Here is a meme that pretty much expresses what we are talking about:
i had a conversation yesterday with my wife, who seems to think every good thing that happens to her just has to be jehovah, and every bad thing, she just knows is satan.
this irritates me to no end.
i told her yesterday that i have trouble praying to have relatively petty thing resolved in my life, meanwhile around the world, many people are raped mutilated, tortured, and killed everyday.

i have a close relative who has a baby with a terminal medical condition.
he could go at any moment or last a few years.
but the ultimate outcome is that he will die very young.
I can certainly understand how that could be the case, Mum. I honestly cannot imagine working on a children's ward. I couldn't do it. I would be a mess. I have three children and I just couldn't. Being a father is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me. I would be an emotional wreck and I can understand how working in such a situation would call into question core beliefs.
The situation I wrote about is tragic. Beyond tragic. It is gut wrenching. I can't hardly even stand to think about it. The Sister's comments just added insult to injury, I felt, to that poor woman who is currently living many people's worst nightmare. It was so cold hearted. But at the same time, I thought it was interesting with the qualified "maybe" that was in there.

Suavojr - we certainly do not know what the future will bring. But JWs certainly believe(d) they know what the future brings.
And, Band, your post brings up interesting questions regarding gender differences among the Brothers and Sisters. You have me thinking now...
I hope to get to that point, Josie -- to be able to watch something and send the kids out of the room. I like your approach.
My children are so sensitive. I don't even turn the TV on any more and they've never seen network TV. A few kids things on Netflix. I pay for cable and don't watch it. :(

I have a close relative who has a baby with a terminal medical condition. He could go at any moment or last a few years. But the ultimate outcome is that he will die very young. My relative is a Witness, and the child was taken into State custody for medical purposes (the JW family have no say over his medical care -- the State does) so that he coud receive blood transfusions as needed.
On Facebook this morning, my relative posted about someone she has met whose child has the same condition. That child is terminal and his time left is now very short. That child's mom posted an update indicating that it won't be long now. My relative and this other mother are posting on each other's status updates to support each other through.
In response to these posts, a Sister TM from my relative's congregation wrote: "We have a hope that a lot of people do not have and maybe soon Gods kingdom will wipe out this world." My first reaction was how cold this Sister TM is that she would post this right where this poor non JW mother is sharing about her dying child. My second reaction was: "MAYBE? Wot da wot?" Things have surely changed since I left the bOrg. It used to be that there was no doubt that Jehovah WOULD wipe out this Wicked System of Things TM ...no ifs ands buts or maybes about it and that it WOULD be not only soon, but any second now! Zero doubts. Absolutely no way, no how that it wouldn't be any moment now. Armageddon was so close, it was closer than our underwear, closer than our nose hair.
So that "maybe" was a shock even more than the mean "we have a hope others don't..." that clearly left the poor mother of the dying child among those who do not have hope. I know to expect that from Witnesses, but not these new qualified words like "maybe Jehovah will..."
Wow.
i have served 20 years as an elder, 5 years as an ms. was on the district committee in 2010, held various positions on the district , circuit, and rbc level.
probably been on more than 100 judicial committees and even an appeals committee.
was the coordinator in our congregation and deleted because adult child was df ( i kicked him out at the time of his wrongdoing, but that wasn't enough for thr brothers).
James - Welcome. I enjoyed reading your introductory post. I think it's pretty typical for a lot of people to lurk for a while before posting. My guess is that most lurkers never post. I do know that I lurked off and on for several years (from the early days of JWD to about three years ago, I guess?) before ever joining and posting.
There's something about an elder waking up to the truth about the Truth TM that gives me some hope.
Again, welcome!
- i am now one individual expressing my own thoughts and point of view.
i think by doing this i oppose the w.t and have woken up many sleeping witnesses and even inspired them to think for themselfs and listen to that voice of reason inside them.. but now that voice of reason is awoken there is no longer any sleep no more dreaming and slowly have discoverd a new life of lies and illusion .holly shit the whole world , the goverments and the newspapers and advertising is feeding me the same s...t only different lies and a differnt illusion than the watchtowers.
uggggggggg.
Life outside the Watchtower is so much better than life inside the bOrg.
i am sure this may have been discussed previously and if so just disregard this.. .
as a born-in 1914 is a date stamped into my head that is pretty much the foundation of our religious beliefs.
nearly everything that sets jw's apart from everyone is this date of 1914. forget all the chronology that proves that daniels prophecy and the 2520 years is incorrect - there is far worse damning evidence that makes this date useless and in error.. with the magazine that shines new light on the whole faithful slave thing - charles taze russell is no longer a member of that faithful slave class that jesus is using to feed his people./ by getting rid of russell the no doubt were able to distance themselves from all his crazy ramblings and teachings that are appearing all over the internet.
Imagine when the new "Overlapping Generation" teaching (along with 1914) is finally dismissed for good. The excitement over new light and Jehovah's loving provision of life sustaining spiritual food at the proper time will be shared by the majority.
Leading up to that will be much less discussion of 1914 and the Generation teaching. Less and less of that over time, leading up to eventually dumping it. By the time they finally get rid of it and announce new light, most people by then won't have much knowledge or memory of these teachings as having much importance because those that do will be from generations that have passed away. It won't rock their worlds. It will be a blip involving "exciting new light" and seen as a wonderful, loving provision from Jehovah.
That's my best guess anyway.
my name is jack harper, tech49.
new here, been lurking for many months now.
a brief history:.
Jack,
I have nothing but respect for you Your points about why you are here and the path you are on are all excellent. Clearly, this is what is best for your family.
A question for you, if you don't mind (feel free to ignore, if you don't want to talk about this topic): Have you begun to quietly relax things a bit on the homefront as far as family celebrations go -- birthdays, Christmas, etc.? How is that going?
The many tedious, spoken and unspoken nonsensical rules of the WTBTS are so tiresome -- what can and can't be said, what can and can't be done, etc...All man-made, without any foundation in the Bible. Has your family been discussing any of this at all?
Again, please only answer if you feel comfortable, and feel free to ignore if not.
Thank you for your wonderful intro post and welcome!
Cheers,
LaVérité
in an effort to get some help and hopefully help others, i'd like to start this thread about psychology, specifically starting with the subject of anger management.. .
personally, i don't have much of a temper.
what i do have, i've learned to control.
