A Witness shows up out of the blue in a remote territory and the paranoid reclusive homeowner answers the door with a gun. The frigntened Witness pulls a gun out of his bookbag and things get serious because the homeowner now feels like the Witness really is a threat after all. He moves to shoot only the Witness fires first and nails the guy fatally. Which one of them will be at fault ? The homeowner who felt threatened by a stranger who in fact was carrying a gun or a gun tote'n stranger who shot a homeowner at his own front door? Would the presence of a second gun have caused a bad situation to escalate beyond what it would have been? It seems to me statistics have shown that the individual who carrys a gun just for protection often winds up as a victim of his own weapon. When he is called upon to use it he is taken by surprise rather than the calculated move his attacker is carrying out.
That having been said, it would help you feel less vulnerable to at least have something at your disposal to give you an advantage in one of these situations.

But I carried a handgun in my book back at all times. It was a small .45 that had its own little pocket that remained zipped closed.
A gun zipped up in the pocket of a book bag that contains Bible literature is not only a bit ironic but seems like it would be a bit useless once someone has pulled a gun on you, unless of course they gave you a few minutes to get it out.

A Popular Question Raised by people who were never JW.
by Momma-Tossed-Me ini talk to a lot of people about the watchtower because it comes up in conversation all of the time.. money eventually becomes a topic as it is a very wealthy corporation.. so the question is always raised and it is a good one, "who controls it?".
people want to know "who has the power of the purse strings?
" and quite frankly so do i.. there is someone behind the scenes who knows so much that the wtbts could never fire him or her.

How do they sleep at night ?
They soothe themselves to sleep by engaging in heavy cognitive dissonance. ie " Well....even if it's not "the truth" it's a good way of life "
People want to know "Who has the power of the purse strings?" and quite frankly so do I
I can't say who it is for sure, but I'll bet that, "Andre" fella, has someting to do with it.

Whether the Apostles were awake or asleep the outcome would have been the same. In order to save all mankind, Jesus had to die. It was fortold, right ? By staying awake, what would have they have been attempting to accomplish ? Fight the guards off and keep him alive for a few more weeks ? He was supposed to be rejected....he was supposed to die. The apostles were mere earthlings caught in this crazy universal sovereignty debacle supposedly between God and Satan.
The watchtower corp always manages to put themselves in the place of Jesus and then apply his words to the rest of us in a scolding manner which is intended to shame you into doing more for them.
The Apostles question to the SON OF GOD "Master where are we to go, for you have the sayings of life " Is applied to mean that leaving the Watchtower Corperation is the same as abandoning Jesus or even God himself.
Belonging to the Watchtower Corperation means you're a Witness of Jehovah when in reality if Gods name is Jehovah, anyone who speaks about him is one of Jehovah's Witness.

Are You A Screwed Up Adult Because You Were A Witness?
by minimus inor did it not matter that you were ever a witness---you're a bit screwy, anyway?.

I think there were some benefits to being a Witness but then I realize that it's the residue of Witness logic that is causing me to think this.

Is there ANY JW belief/doctrine that has remained the same from start to now?
by journey-on ini was trying to think of one teaching or doctrine that has remained consistent from the society's inception to now, and couldn't.
.
can you give me one?.

We're right....everyone else is wrong because they are being led by Satan. Any time we change a belief, it's because God in his infinite wisdom, didn't want us to know the real understanding until now. Even if we change our beliefs in the future, you must not have doubts, you are to go out and teach it to other people whether you understand it or not.

is jws really growing or only natural increases from kids.?
by mP infirstly yes we all know most jw bornins leave but a quarter give or take continue.
im going to argue that this is the only source of any increase.
those that leave are barely replaced if at all by new recruits in third world countries.

The Congregation I attended split 3 times remodeled once and built a new hall once, because of growth. Everyone new to the Hall was raised in the Truth and newly married with small kid(s) of thier own. There was only one (never been a JW) new person in our Hall who was brought in because he was married to a DF'd JW girl who was reactivated when someone found her at the door. It was a big deal when he came into "the truth" He cut his hair, became a MS etc. Sadly, two months ago, he committed suicide.
When I look at the facebooks of the Witnesses I know, all the kids who left the truth still keep in touch with eachother as well as the ones that stayed in. It doesn't seem to matter to the young ones whether they are DF DA or whatever, they still keep in contact. Things are really getting lax...not that I'm complaining. I think in another decade, this religion will just sort of fizzle out.

Phone call from the local JWs this evening...
by Jim_TX ingosh i wish i was better at having religious discussions with jws.
this evening, as i am at home trying to relax, i get a phone call from the local jws who are evidently sitting in their kh dialing out.. i got this man who starts off by asking me if he can ask me a question.
"okaaaaay..." i say slowly.... "do you think..." he starts... and then stops... obviously losing his place in his pre-prepared sermon....

You should have said
"There's no way you can be one Jehovah's Witnesses ! Don't they pride themselves for being the only ones who go from door to door. They would never be stickin' up for Jesus over the phone like this....are you prankin' me ??? "

Two new experiences.....
by Momma-Tossed-Me inall of you share your experiences about encountering jw's and i enjoy them so much....here are two that just happened over the weekend for your enjoyment.. so as you all may know last december i was officially labeled by the borg.
so now all jdubs must shun me who have known me since birth and thereafter.. i had a booth at a local festival this saturday and a jw was the chairman of this years deal.
so he is also a photog and he was going to each booth and taking a picture of it.. he did the one right beside me and then did a wide half circle to get to the next booth on the other side so as not to get to close to the new town apostate.
