Unlocking Phobia's in JW's - Steve Hassan's " Freedom of Mind " book
by flipper inmy wife and i finally finished steve hassan's latest book called " freedom of mind " so i wanted to devote one more thread to it in discussing how to recognize phobia's in witnesses or cult members and some methods hassan mentions to assist cult members.. on pg.
146 hassan states, " a cult phobia is a man-made mental illness that is an integral part of destructive influence.
a phobia is a persistent, irrational fear.

I definetly think one can be troubled/plagued by phobias in one form or another after spending their childhood and young adulthood as a JW. Perhaps I'll feel differently once I've read Hassan's book but for now I still can't quite commit to saying that the WT leaders or rank and file JW's deliberately and knowingly use cult tactics to recruit and retain members. I do think the original founders of the religion were phobics and fanatics themselves and they latched on to or developed a religion or form of worship that made their own irrational Bible/God based fears and irrational thoughts make sense. If you ever heard one of the old time leaders like Fred Franz give a talk at an assembly you'd almost think he took his speaking style from Adolph Hitler. Talk about a fanatic. Even as a little kid I knew there was some kind of imbalance going on with him. But Like anything else, if one keeps at something long enough, someone will take the bait and JW's found like minded ones who followed them for one reason or another, many of whom got caught up in it and stayed with it long after it wasn't working for them. They called these new individuals sheeplike ones who were sighing and crying in the wilderness. It's quite possible they were just scared, lost or weak minded ones or individuals who were in a particularly vulnerable place in thier lives when they encountered the JW group. I know that's what happened when my mother was first contacted. We had just moved to the U.S. from Europe, didn't have any family or support system. She and Dad were young and had no network of friends to bounce things off of. They had two young kids to look after and they found themselves out there in the wild blue yonder without a safety net or soft place to land should something go wrong. Along came some kindly but persistant Witnesses with a pre-packaged program for her to follow that seemed to make sense at first glance. She was already nervous, so their message of impending doom made her fears make all the more sense to her. She got caught up in it and slam went the door to opportunity for her children which was the main motivation for them leaving thier families and country behind in the first place.
Maybe it's because it's what I experienced, but I defenitly think it's the first genreation JW children who get screwed up the worst and are loaded down with the same phobias that caused their parents to think when they became JW's they had found the only truth in the world. But understanding phobias and how they work, and knowing what yours are, is key to breaking free of them. It sounds like this book will be helpful in that regard, especially for former JW's.

JW tour bus crashes in Florida, with fatalities-
by moshe inmiami - a bus carrying 32 members of a church group hit a concrete overpass at miami international airport after the driver got lost, killing two elderly people on board and leaving three others critically injured, officials said saturday.. the large, white bus was too tall for the 8-foot-6-inch entrance to the arrivals area, said airport spokesman greg chin.
buses are supposed to go through the departures area, which has a higher ceiling, he said.. chin said the passengers told him they were part of a group of jehovah's witnesses headed to west palm beach.
police said in a news release that the group had chartered the bus to take them to a church convention there-.

Based on the fact it was a "Sweetwater" area congregation (southwest of the airport near) I see no reason why they were anywhere near the entrance to the Airport. Sweetwater is right next to the Turnpike
The only thing I can think of, (and I base this on my own recent experience) , is that the driver encountered one of the many detours and wasn't able to find an easy enough place for a bus to exit the freeway to turn around once he went wrong. One detour led to another and he wound up only being able to take a route through the airport. I say this because this is exactly what happened to me. I was in a car so I didn't have a problem with an overpass but had I been in a bus it would have been much different. Either way you'd have thought a bus driver from the area would have planned his route better or known that he was too tall to pass under the concrete abutment. It must have been quite a wollop !
The other possibility was they were picking up someone from out of town who was flying in for the assembly. ??

Anyone else know Miami? How the hell is it even possible to wind up INSIDE MIA when you are going to WPB? This is a screw up of epic proportions.
There has been a lot of construction and many crazy detours at and around that airport lately. I had qyute a time navigating a rental car through there recently and I can absolutely see how someone could end up in the wrong place, especially a bus that can't change lanes quick enough to avoid taking the wrong exit. My Brother lives in West Palm Beach and I believe there is an assembly hall near there. I'm sure I'll hear the sad details from him.

Jehovah's Witnesses and the BETTER mousetrap
by Terry inralph waldo emerson said: "build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door.".
he was correct.
the most invented (improved and modified) device in the history of the patent office is the mousetrap.. .

You only have to look at some of the Cars produced by Detroit in the past (Pinto, Gremlin,Vega etc) to realize that no matter how ugly or unreliable the cars are, if you market them, eventually someone will buy them. It's the same with anything, even a religion. A lot of it is a matter of numbers and timing and stick-to-it-ive-ness not necessarily that the product is good or even needed.
You could go from door to door selling white washed graves year after year and someone would eventually buy one and there'd be some who'd even look into setting up their own franchise.

What If Money Were No Object?
by Crisis of Conscience ini haven't started a topic in quite a while.
but today, someone sent me the video linked below.. i really enjoyed it so i decided to share it.
and while it can be applied to many situations in life, i believe in particular it is of use to those still in the struggle.

I get what the video is saying but I do wonder who will grow the food, collect the trash, make sure the sewer system is working if we're all doing what we'd do if money were no object. I'm kinda thankful that we are forced by life to do what we'd rather not do and to get unpleasant things done a lot of the time because we have to.

They always used Luke 19 which is the parable of the slaves who were put in charge of the masters belongings while he was away. The slave that made good use of the belongings /increased them, was praised, the one who didn't use them well/hid them away, was evil and cast off.
The idea was that the WT is using the Masters belongings wisely and if you don't support them, you are an evil slave deserving of death.
This assumes that the master is happy with how they are doing things. Hopefully the Master won't be annoyed by the lack of growth due to the slow and ineffective means they use to spread the word and by the literature containing incorrect dates and teachings that were spread through out the world that mislead many and turned many away from God altogether.

She keeps mentioning a break, don't know if she wil go through with it.
You might remind her that according to JW belief, if she leaves you without scriptural grounds and you wind up in a "relaionship" with another woman, she is also guilty for having put you in that position by leaving her marriage mate. If you refrain from talking about"apostate" topics with her, she won't have any just reason to leave.
