Ships are safer when they are kept tied up to a pier...but that's not what ships were made for.

There are some questions I have had about the JWs view "post-Armaggeddon"
by booker-t ini have always wondered how jws believe about "post-armaggeddon" earth.
question#1 how will jws survivors bury all of the dead bodies.
with about 4 billion people on earth today how can 8 million jw(1/2 of them children and babies) bury all of those dead bodies?

Back in 1974 when everyone was on pins and needles about the start of the Tribulation. I remember a middle aged brother commenting at the Watchtower study saying "Scientists have seen a worldwide increase in carrion birds in the last few years and we know that this is how Jehovah will take care of the dead after Armageddon."
The Study Conductor said "There's no proof of any such thing, lets restrict our comments to the information in the paragraph."
You could have heard a pin drop.

Just like after the flood when Jehovah made the 2 Kangaroos on the Ark hop their way to the Indian ocean and swim south to Austrailia before multiplying, he'll make sure that each of the non JW's to be slaughtered, digs a hole for themselves before he kills them. The next person in line to be killed will fill in the hole for the person before him, and so on and so on. There may be a special loving provision that alows parents to dig holes for their little children or elderly family members before he kills them.
Didn't Hitler do something like that when he first got into the human extermination biz?

What was the most rebellious thing you did while you were a devout jw?
by DuvanMuvan ini was just thinking about how humans being imperfect and satan's influence was the root of everything bad that anyone has ever done.
well i know that apparently everyone is vulnerable which got me thinking about what "bad" things people have done while they were a jw.
i'll start it off.

My wife and I grew up as JW's and missed out on everything. Although we continued with it well into adulthood, we both suspected that much of the restrictions we lived under were completely unnecessary. We allowed our boys to join the local youth basketball league when they were in elementary school and later the Jounior and Senior high school swim team and wrestling team. They enjoyed it immensely and benefited socially from it. Even though we had to sort of keep it on the down low and got the stink eye from different ones who knew, we ever regretted it or doubted ourselves. None of the elders dared to give us any grief about it.
Evil Monsters that we were, we also used to do something special for them on thier "birth date" even if it was only to bring them home a chocolate eclair and a little gift and give them a rundown of the events the night they were born. We allowed them to go to the Highschool Prom and our youngest Son was the Homecoming King in his Senior year.
We were jilted out of our childhoods in many ways and even though we're now free of the Watchtower's stranglehold on our personal relationship with God, we do have regrets about not having gotten out sooner but at least we can feel good that our boys didn't have their youths totally spoiled by it all.

Don't Let Your JW Past Keep You Down!
by minimus ini know many who were witnesses hate their past, their decisions, their wasted time.. but you know what??
it's not so bad now.
at least we are out, either mentally, physically or both.. and now, we know better!.

I think the thing that makes it hard for some X-JW's to move on is because there is no one who will admit to, or take any responsibility for the damage the organizations mistakes have caused them. It's a faceless machine, no one claims to write the articles or set the policies or feels any need to explain themselves even in the face of overwhelming evidence that millions have had their lives and families forever altered after being involved with JW's. Once you leave or are asked to leave, it's as if your past never existed. You are in a no man's land.
I used to wonder why former Witnesses used to picket outside Assemblies, because it made them appear so imbalanced. But now I realize that back in the day, before the Internet, they had no other voice and had to resort to drastic means to quell the anger they felt over the wrongs that had been done to them. At least we can "vent" here and we are somewhat vindicated by the negative exposure the Watchtower Society has been experiencing lately.
If they'd just once admit in their literature or from the platform that they did mislead people with their past prophecies and that serious damage indeed has been done to those who were wronged by their policies, most of us could complete the healing process and they'd never hear a word about it, from us again. We'd have the satisfaction that our former friends and family members would know that we had a legitimate reason for our actions and we aren't simply being rebellious, uncooperative or under the influence of Satan.

Thanks WTBS for changing the Kingdom Songs, you freed me!
by StephaneLaliberte inyesterday, i saw a picture of a family signing kingdom melodies together.
it made me realize a fact that i am somewhat ashamed to admit:.
for over a decade, i have been aware of the false prophecies, the deceptive statements, the lack of scriptural support for many core practices and other issues with the witnesses.

It was the beginning of the end for me back in 2008 when I suddenly realized that after a lifetime as a JW and a stint in Bethel, I had somehow missed the lyrics of song 126 " Jehovah is on my side" r I was stunned that I had never heard these lyrics before and wondered how they could have even gotten published.
I know that in this crucial hour
My faith will yet be tested.
Around me swarms the Devil's crowd
Like bees that were molested.
But I can ever beat them off
Beneath divine protection.
On those who love to bear his name,
God sets his deep affection.People were actually snickering the last time I heard this song sung at the Hall. After the song was over, an old German sister turned said outloud in her heavy German accent, " Yaaa...za peeple in za verld are like bees zat have been molested "
Everyone started laughing and she couldn't understand what was so funny. But like Ecan6, It was the ridiculous lyrics of a Kingdom Melody that made me realize how much I had been "ignoring" and was part of how I began my exit from the organization.

Overseer's wife accompanied my Elderette, to answer my question, "Who really is the faithful and discreet slave?"
by Faithful Witness inas usual, i was unprepared for a "drop-in" visit by a jw.
they seem to have a knack for coming when you're in the middle of something, or your house is a complete disaster... for me, both things are almost always true.
it's better if you call me and warn me before you come over.

"If you want to know the truth about someone, what do you do? If I want to know more about you and how you run your house or take care of your kids, do I ask you personally, or do I go run around and see what your neighbors say about you?"
Good job F.W. you handled that well.
What a dumb line of reasoning she used. Would she buy a used car based soley on what the used car dealer told her or would she ask other people what kind of experience they had with that dealership?
For most people, red flags would be flying high if a car dealership (or religious organization) told them not to check into their background from outside sources or listen to anything negative former customers had to say. They'd likely wonder what they were trying to hide.
Most JW's spend more time checking out the products they buy than they do investigating their own religion. They actually think it would be tantamount to apostasy to fact check Watchtower Society from outside sources.

They are incapable of being honest
by Pistoff inthe new york times has an article today about denominations (religions) that are selling off property, some of it prestigious.. this is a good read; what i noted is that in all cases but the watchtower, they say it is because they are downsizing, or the changes in the publishing industry, or needing less space.. the watchtower, though, just can't seem ever to tell the truth; they say it is because they needed more modern facilities.. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/16/us/denominations-downsizing-and-selling-assets-in-more-secular-era.html?emc=edit_th_20140316&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=41433560&_r=0.

To be fair though, it might make sense to sell off the old buildings that are scattered all over Brooklyn and build one big complex rather than retrofit all old the buildings to meet changes that have come about because of new technology. No matter what they do to update the existing Brooklyn buildings, they'd still have to deal with inefficiency of an entire work force having to walk back and forth between buildings, some of which are many blocks apart. This is especially true in the winter months. Caring for a new low rise sprawling complex made of modern materials, would be easier to maintain than old high rise buildings located in a high traffic city. Also, bringing large trucks full of printed material in an out of the City must be a pain in the neck. It might smart, from bottom line standpoint, to sell off the old buildings and builld a new all-in-one complex and possibly have money left over.
