This is so well written, so true to life and it sounds very familiar. Keep going....looking forward to reading the rest.

I think you are probably at a stage in life where you are realizing everything is not how you thought it was. Society is changing all the time and it always has. Your are probably projecting this disillusionment on the world around you and life in general. Older ones who are feeling tired often don't want to be bothered having to adjust so they see change as bad. They often have the a tendency to look back at the past through rose colored glassess, Glasses that also make the new generation seem as if it's going to hell in a handbasket by comparrison. I bet if you went back to the good ol days that we all think existed just before we were born or when we were small children and had the insight you have now, you'd hate it and be shocked at how narrow, strict, repressed and intolerant folks were. Especially so if you are part of some repressed group of people who's plight has improved with the passage of time.

I beleive such an instance wouldn't be too far out of the realm of possibility given the mentality they had back in the day.
In the 70's when we were studying the Sunday Watchtower which basically sort of gave the go ahead to (new) "lighten" up on how hard core we were supposed to be toward DF'd ones, outlining circumstances where it would be acceptable to have some contact with a DF'd person. A sweet old brother raised his hand and made a comment that made his wife whip her head around and stare at him. He said " I've never told anyone about this...not even my wife of 40+years but back in the 1950's when we were living in Minnesota we had a huge snow storm one night I was driving home and I recognized a Disfellowshipped Woman who's car had skidded off the road and was stuck in the snow so I stopped and helped her chain up and I got her car back on the road for her . I've always felt guilty about having done that but I just couldn't risk that she'd be stuck there all night and possibly freeze to death."
Can you imagine even having to question your own actions in such a circumstance and having to feel the need to keep them hidden for 20+ years and then only be able to admit it once you got the nod of approval from the Society ?

Post 607: Reject 607 BC if You TRULY Trust the Bible!!!
by Londo111 intherefore, if the 70 years period is for the destruction of jerusalem and exile at babylon:.
if zedekiah had not rebelled against babylon, had he surrendered during the final siege that lasted two and a half years, then the destruction of jerusalem and the deportation need not have happened.
then in the jubilee year, they were set free and their hereditary land was returned to them.

Funerals of Disfellowshipped ones.
by exwhyzee insome time ago someone posted some information here from some of the wt literature (possibly questions from the readers) that shows it would be inappropriate for a jw to attend the funreal of a disfellowshipped person.
when our son was undergoing cancer treatment while disfellowshipped we realized that if he didn't make it, we'd be on our own to bury him.
thankfully he survived but it was this realization and the way the family and friends abandoned us during our darkest hour that started our exit from the religion and eventually sent us packing for good.

Thanks Guys....I was almost positive there was a questions from the readers that said it would be inappropriate to attend a funeral of someone who was DF'd. I'm guessing if Blondie didn't find it, it probably doesn't exist.
Thanks again !

Its funny how you never hear of near death experiences of individuals who saw the devil or hell fire or dead realatives warning them not to "cross over". All you hear about is a white light or welcoming loved ones and other pleasant visions.

My Sister in Law claims that there is no such edict from the Society about this.
Can anyone direct me to where I might find it. ?
Thanks !

Are active bethelites sent here to spy?
by EndofMysteries ini wonder if bethelites are sent here for research, but i can't see any being sent here for research in which it wouldn't awaken them at the same time.
even the governing body themselves may awaken if they were at this board haha.

I hope someone from HQ is reading the valueable info posted on here. This site contains the insights of a wide cross section of individuals who for one reason or another became casualties of their organization. If they truly love and value the lives of their flock and of the human race as they say they do, they will acknowledge the wrongs that have been suffered by former members and they will strive to rescue the ones they have left who are dying on the vine while the rest are out knocking on doors looking for new victims.

Lazarus could have talked his head off about his experience and it might not have been recorded.
Good point...and very amusing too !
I'm glad you brought this topic up as it has also come up three other times this week and I'm beginning to see some common threads that make me think there is something to this. When my Mom (also a JW) died of Cancer at 57 she definetly said things toward the end when she was coming in and out of consciousness that made me think she was seeing something good and pleasant. We thought it was the medication talking but it seemed to be more than that somehow. Her eyes were closed and she sort of smiled and reached out as if she was trying to touch what she was seeing. One of the Elders from the hall said "who's to say what pleasant little image or thought Jehovah might put into the mind of those who are dying" We were just happy that whatever it was, she was at peace and seemed not to be resisting. The nurse told us that sometimes people hang on because they don't think their families are ready let them go. My siblings and I sat next to her bed around the clock and at the last together we told her that we'd see her again and that we'd be ok and it's ok if she'd like to go. A tear rolled down her cheek and my Sister said to me "maybe she's not ready" Suddenly Mom spoke and quietly and most assuredly said "I am ready". That was the last thing she ever said. She died in the small space of time between when my Sister left the room as I was about to enter it. The nurse said that happens all the time. They want privacy while they die. While she was lucid, Mom said dying isn't as bad as it might look.
I think there is a lot more to life/death/dying/God etc than we will ever know on this side of things. All I know is that I have a strong sense that we'll be pleasantly surprised by what is in store for us and we'll have a good laugh at all of our silliness and bickering over such matters.

I was in "Street Work" conspicuously standing on a corner of a busy steet in a major west coast city holding up the latest magazines (can't beleive I ever did that) . I had on a pair of dress pants and a sport coat with a tie and sweater vest underneath. A carload of nicely dressed business men in a new car were waiting for the light and I noticed them laughing at me. Later I looked down and realized that my necktie somehow was on the outside of the sweater vest and was covering the magazines. I felt so stupid standing there anyway let alone to have spent all that time with my tie covering the magazines. (such a dork)
My Mom used to play the piano at the hall. One night we rushed out of the house so she'd be there on time to play the opening song. She dashed down to the front of the hall and sat at the piano with her coat still on. She went to take off her coat and realized that in her rush to get ready she had forgotten to put on her dress. All she had on under the coat was her bra and slip. Luckily she noticed before she had the coat all the way taken off.
My wifes mom was at the door with my wife's little brother. The boy was bored and started playing with a little kitten that came out of the house while his mom was showing a scripture to the householder. He tried to catch it but the frightend kitten jumped up inside his mom's skirt scratching her thighs making her jump and got its claws got tangled up in her nylons. She had to put her bible and bookbag down, turn and reach up and extract the cat while the cargroup and householder looked on.
