I actually hate most of these songs anyway... unless they are sung by Crooner's.

Christmas Songs?
by leaving_quietly inthere are certain songs sung at christmas time that have nothing whatsoever to do with christmas.
i've been reading lyrics lately to make sure, then i make comments to my uber-jw wife, who really, really hates what i'm saying.
for example, the song, "let it snow" has nothing to do with christmas.

Nervousness While Commenting?
by schlick inwas always shy about public speaking of any kind.
when i commented, my heart would beat as rapid as a moving train.
and oh if it was something i tried to remember then it would be forgotton the second being put on the spot.

I wouldn't comment.
If you are the kind of person who gets nervous in public speaking, you will probably always be that way. Even Ringo Starr says he still gets nervous when going out to perform.
No reason to give yourself more anxiety than is necessary.

Is this CA experience mind control or worship of man?
by hoser inthis goes back some time several years perhaps even 10 or so.. .
i was at the circuit assembly and during the announcements the chairman said you may sit if you wish this will take some time to read this.
i forget what it was about but everyone sat down except the district overseer and his wife.. then the people sitting close by the do started to get up to stand again and there was this group of about 100 who were standing around the do.

What a horrible waste of time and brain cells these assemblies are.

post meeting dirty moods.
by zeb inso you are 'out' and the other in 'in'.
do they come home with the grumps after every meeting?.
-
MrFreeze
I always agreed that if you went to a meeting with a headache or something you felt better after the meeting was over. They pinned it on the loving atmosphere and holy spirit. Wasn't until later I realized it had nothing to do with that. Instead it was the relief that the frickin meeting was over.
I know when I was out and family was in, they would be all smiles when they came home. Had to put on a false front. I can tell because they were a lot more chipper than when I was actually going to meetings.

Small tattoo
by happy@last inso yesterday after serious consideration i decided to walk into the parlour and get a small tattoo on my wrist.
it's a small emblem/logo i created that has great meaning to me but wouldn't make sense to anyone else.
i am so pleased with it and this morning can't stop looking at it and feeling happy about it.

Another Revised NWT Thread - subtly sowing seeds of doubt with chart
by mindnumbed inpages 1744 thru 1746 feature a chart of the kings of the southern kingdom, ending with zedekiah in 607.. praise the new bible and all of the teaching aids .... draw attention to kings list and how convenient that is ... but, strangely, i decided to look up information in an encyclopedia about the different kings, and the dates are not the same ... so i checked a couple of sources and they are all different than the chart in the bible .... why would that be?.

MrFreeze
The WT backs up their claims of 607 by adding a non-existent king into the Babylonian line of kings.

Pioneer Service School Adjustment for 2014
by bnybyt inthe pioneer service school will now be only one week, monday thru saturday.. it will consist of 40 hours of instruction and illustrations/presentations.. the reasong given is that this will make it more accessible to the pioneers for due to work schedules and for congregations having to sponsor and support the school.. it will make it easier on everyone and those who haven't attended in the last five years may be able to attend this school with the new curriculum.. .
what do you feel would be included in the new curriculum.
probably more worship of the governing body and they don't need two whole weeks to get this across.. .

I wish mine had only been a week.

So how exactly did this "new translation" come to be?
by sir82 ina normal person, upon hearing that a new (or revised) bible translation has been released, would have 2 questions spring to mind almost immediately:.
1) who did the work, and what are their credentials?.
2) what manuscripts is the work based on?.
-
MrFreeze
Calling it a translation is misleading. Seeing as how it paraphrases so much.

My highlights from the AGM
by Apognophos insome of this will not be new to those of you who read other people's notes, but i bet there are a few new bits for you here, so i've provided a user-friendly table of contents, as an homage to the contents that appear before each book of the bible in the new nwt.
i might remember more highlights later, as i'm rather tired right now, but this is what i can recall off the top of my head.. contents (use of quote marks in this section is facetious; these are not actual quotes).
"say, did you notice that 2014 is the 100th anniversary, people?".

I had dinner with my family yesterday and my mom was excited to show me the new Bible. I thought the NWT was the most accurate version of the Bible. Why did they need a new one?
