  This concern about....

  ... identifying, isolating and exposing "trolls" mystifies me. If the are JWs and have the temerity to post here and endure whatever consequences ensue from his/her participation, then I say .. welcome!

  It is the same on any message board or usenet group. Trolls are rapidly identified because to not do so has been found to be harmful to discussion. 1) discussions get unproductive because people argue about stupid things the troll brought up just for that purpose. 2) good contributors can get discouraged for investing time on troll threads that later turn out to be wasted; so they stop participating ..

  In both cases the troll wins. That is why people are so quick (and in some case too quick) to spot a troll or fake poster..

  "Why are you putting that magazine money in the contribution box?? You already donated for them at the literature counter!"

  Comments I'd like to hear:
  "Excuse me but everything you just said is bullshit"
  "What would happen if Jehovah resurrected me (create a copy with my memories) while I am still alive?"

  In literature:
  "It is our opinion that..."
  "We feel is is likely that..."
  "Note that this new understanding represents a change from the former understanding which was printed in xxx xxx 19xx issue. We deeply regret any harm this has caused to anyone."

  whats the funniest names you've come across at the kingdom hall?.

  once i went to a hall were it was anonced that the seal's were away on holiday .in the closing prayer they prayed for brother pig.. i thought we were in a zoo.

  Computer/web design question

  i immediately forwarded it to our web-designer to find out if what this person says is true.

  he replied that it was a scam.

  I would take the message seriously and investigate the web pages in question to make sure they are in fact secure. If someone used the page thinking it was secure and their SSN or other information was compromised because the page was incorrectly done, I'd think your company would be liable for any damages. What he says about http vs. https is generally true for secure/insecure pages; when I see a page claiming security but the https or the lock icon is missing I call in the order instead. It is possible that there is some method of secure transmission being used that is not obvious at the client side; perhaps that is the case with your site.

  How does anyone know matter didn't always exist?

  a few days ago i was told matter didn't always exist.. i was told this by several persons who spoke with much certainty.. they said matter came from a singularity.. this as you know raises more questions than it answers.. have they any proof that singularities even exist?.

  how come people state things as a fact, that they have no solid proof for, and expect others to just beleive them.. and if you don't accept their beleif, you are said, not to be intelligent.. isn't that a case of attacking the straw man?.

  No it would be an ad hominem attack. A straw man attack is when you misrepresent an argument (ie present a false, weak version of it) and then argue against that version.

  How come people state things as a fact, that they have no solid proof for, and expect others to just beleive them.

  I don't know the answer, why don't we ask the next Christian who comes along why they do this?

  That matter came from a singularity can be deduced from known facts, mainly the fact that the universe is expanding; also the background radiation 'signature' present in space. That signature is consistent with data produced in physics labs when particles are smashed together at massively high energies (similating the conditions right after the singularity aka big bang)..

  Mispronunciations at the meetings

  moxy raised a point in the "exaggeration" thread that aggravated me at the meetings.

  mispronunciations.

  moxy mentioned the word 'hyperbole' as frequently being mispronounced.. another one that bugged me was 'epitome'.

  i think everyone is missing the point by trying to argue for and against the wtbts using words and "logical argument".

  clearly, god did not want the truth to be obvious and, scripturally, it is apparent that it would not be.

  jesus said that only "a few" would find the truth in these last days.

  I am not a JW and never have been. However, the best arguments for becoming one are provided by those who are against it, in that such arguments completely ignore the broader picture.
