  I kinda feel out of tune with the board

  i've read lots of the threads over the past months, and think i understand the board's "makeup" of people (and please correct me if i'm wrong).

  if i'm right, i might have a hard time relating to what the rest of you have gone through.. i became a jw in 1979 or so, and spent more time studying to be one than being one.

  i was df'ed a short time later, briefly went through an effort to rejoin, and called it off when my first child was born.

  Hi Mark! I have never been a JW, but my life has been impacted by the org. My stepson was raised against my husband's wishes 'in the truth', after his biomom took him 2500 miles away. When she was disfellowshipped we became instant parents to a 12 yr old JW who had only learned bad things about wordly people, and was a real punk to boot. I had to learn about the org really quickly, and what I learned led me to do research into their belief system. I now do a little outreach and education on JW beliefs (since they bring them to the door and people do not have to seek them out to be influenced by them).

  I don't post much, but I read a lot and really appreciate all of the work and research done by the individuals on this board. They are a great bunch!

  Do You Really Want Reform, Or...

  ...do you want an end to the entire organization of jehovah's witnesses?.

  i'm guessing there is so much money involved, we couldn't hope to see an end to them, but that's what needs to happen imho.

  after all, jim and tammy faye bakker had lots of money associated with their church, and a theme park complete with hotels to boot and they're all gone.

  I'm hoping for dismantling. Actually I've never seen a religious group that fits so many of the things Christ warned his followers against. I think they are antichrist. I see no hope for apositive outcome - once you change policy then there's doctrine to deal with.

  Shut em down and let them be a curious footnote in religious history.

  Why Are People Here So Disrespectful At Times?

  eu has noticed that a number of persons making up this forum are guilty of showing disrespect to jehovah's witnesses.

  some refer to jws as 'hovahs and others talk about kingdumb hells, all the time professing to follow christ.. some may justify their rude behavior by saying that jws themselves can be rude.

  even if the charge is true, and eu is not really convinced that it is, why cannot ex-jws rise above the fray?

  I think respect should be earned. Most of the active JWs that have posted on this board have been condescending, disdainful, and ignorant. Note i said most - the one or to that have given respect have been treated decently, IMO. And those who come with serious questions that don't set off the "troll" alarms do just fine.

  This board is mostly for exJW's or JWs with serious doubts. I would not go into a KH and act the way active JWs have acted here. I would expect to conduct myself with a modicum of decorum. I think active JWs owe the posters here the same respect. This is THEIR community.

  all human problems such as starvation, disease, and injustice will be solved at armageddon because god is going to kill everyone living that isn't a witness.

  currently, that's 99.9% of the human race.. i'm gonna use this next time i meet a jw who starts to witness to me or calls on me at my new address.... jw: do you believe that all of societies problems like starvation or disease will be solved one day?.

  ak: yes, according to your religion those problems will be solved because the people who have the problems will be destroyed at armageddon cos they didn't convert to your religion.. wonder if i can get them to say that jw's aren't the only ones to be saved at armageddon.. from ak

  The problem with your analogy, Bathory, as I see it is that we are talking life and death here, not the "opportunity" to seek employment elsewhere. There are millions of fellow believers in the same God as the Witnesses who have served their God and love their God and He will also destroy THEM? These faithful Christians who reject the WTS's interpretation of second-rate Christianity are worm-food? I would not worship a God like that.

  Jehovah/Yahweh is NOT exclusively the JW God, although sometimes the WTS twists His word until it is unrecognizable.

  call me what you will.. ok- so anyways the other night i was sad and lonely.

  Hi Katie, just a few thoughts-
  At your age, it's natural t be dissatisfied with who you are, what you are doing with your life, etc. Many young women get to the crossroads that you are standing in right now, and panic and get married and opt out of a life where they are at the helm, making the decisions. In your fantasy life, all you have to do is what everybody, from your parents to the cong to your fantasygorgeous husband TELL you to do. This might seem like "security" now, but as you grow older you would see how often that sort of life is stifling.

  The thing to remember is that it is NORMAL not to know what you want out of life, and to regret the "road not taken". I wish I could tell you how many rewards and how much satisfaction lies ahead for you if you can just persevere. Have you thought about going to a local college, finding what your true passions in life are? Its hard work - a lot harder than being the KH Princess - because it requires that you venture out into unfamiliar territory. I was a lot like you in my late teens. If I had acted on the decisions that looked so tempting at that time I can't imagine what my life would be, other than miserable, because I was into my early 20's before I found my passion, and even older before I found the TRUE love of my life.

  DOn't be afraid of failure - a lot of times it teaches us much more about ourselves than our successes. And I hope that you don't try to build your life on a foundation of people with such conditional love. All of it could be wiped away if something happened and you were DF'd for some reason. But you already know that.

  Build your life on YOU, and no one can take that away.

  Hope this didn't sound too preachy, but I DO know where you are coming from. It will be OK. Just hang in there. I'm sure life has some really great things in store for you!!

  Are Jw's the only ones with apostates....

  who viciously attack the teachings and beliefs of their resigned religion?.

  i was thinking of this last night....i have never in my life seen a movement so big as the apostates against jw's..... no other religion has displayed this....usually people just quietly leave and get on with their lives and there is no anomosity...even if they have been wronged by their religion.... but with jw's it's different...it's an all out and out attack on anyone and everyone who has something positive to say.... makes me believe the bible and the jw's even more...being here is setting the doubt in my mind right....

  Violet, I think that in asking this question it leads to more questions and the need to do more research.

  The first question that came to m mind is "are there any other denominations or sects that treat those who choose to leave with utter contempt, to the point of thinking of them as walking dead?"

  I am a lapsed Catholic, yet all of my Catholic relatives treat me no differently than they do one another. Occasionally my Aunt reminds me that its never too late to go back, but she always says it and then drops the matter.

  I think the high emotion you see on this board and other like it comes from the utter rejection, contempt, and disgust displayed towards those who have done nothing more heinous than find another way to worship their God, or another way to understand their purpose in the universe. Yet they are treated like lepers, like murderers or thieves by people who falsely claimed to love them at one time.

  This sort of treatment of others makes the WTS members Pharisees, not the harbingers of truth. Remember from your bible studies, the Pharisees had so much arrogance because they thought that they were God's chosen also. yet Christ despised them and made fools of them at every opportunity. He showed more hatred and virulent resistance to them than to murderers, thieves, etc.

  Please think about this.
  
  Unless you have personally experienced the rejection that some members of this community of apostates have experienced, I do not see how you can judge the WTS, which has caused their pain, as the truth.

  Dateline story

  we can probably forget the dateline story for a while.

  if it came out now, jw's would look like saints in comparison to the catholics.

  at least jw's delete the servants and not move them from congregation to congregation.

  Thanks Lisa for your kind words and the birthday greeting!

  Shortly after our stepson came to live with us he attended his first birthday party - for a cousin. He was really unsure about it and didn't have a very good time. By the time his rolled around six months later he was really into the spirit of things! We have a big family and after about the sixth party featuring a cake with candles he realized that demons weren't going to jump out of the cake and Jehovah wasn't going to fry his eyeballs on the spot.

  That's when he REALLY started to get angry - at all he had missed.

  Daughter Going to College this Fall

  she will graduate high school and spokane community college this year with an aa degree.

  TR congratulationson raising a daughter who is beautiful inside and out. I can't imagine the academic load she carried to attain those two degrees at the same time. And to be model-pretty too....she has a lot to look forward to.

  This is my first time posting on this board. I used to post on your board, Helen's occasionally, and at the old H2O. My son was stationed in Spokane in the AF, and just recently moved back out there and is also attending Spokane Community College. Predictions of his earning his degree any time soon are about as reliable as the WT's Armageddon record, but heck, we won't give up hope - especially since its on his dime! He loves it out there and doesn't seem to miss Central PA at all. OK, maybe my cooking ;).

  I've been reading here for quite a while, but just had to register to wish your daughter the best and say "Hi"!
