Totally open for suggestions
by Heartbreaker ini need a new focus.
having a lot of kids, it's easy to be wrapped up in taking care of them, and letting them be your center, but they are all gettting to that age of having their own thing.
my husband and i are good about taking time out to do things as a couple, and i've tried to get a new job off the ground.. i just still feel empty, and find myself getting sad about things that i should let me get sad.

Good books against evolution?
by bohm inafter reading 'the greatest show on earth' by dawkins, i have been intrigued by how biblical literalists explain the many findings that seem to support evolution and contradict various parts of the bible.
in doing to i have browsed around on aig but i have generally felt let down by the quality of evidence and interpretations they present.
so i would like to ask all non-evolutionists: if i wanted to learn more about the physical case against evolution, what books should i read?

Evolution does not aim to study the origin of life, but how it changes through time.

It never fails that someone cites fiction the Bible as "proof" against evolution.

Are you a stay at home mom, working woman with or with out children or a combination of both?
by restrangled ini am asking this based on sd-7's posts and am curious what you consider fair as far as house upkeep in the position you are in.. i was raised in the 60/70 decades from parents married in the 1950's so i seem to have a pretty old fashioned idea of what "housewife" means.. when i was working i had no tolerance for any slop habits, but since i'm home i don't require much.. so what are your ideals, how does your home operate?

When the carrot becomes dry, mouldy an unedible, thy just switch to a fresh one. That easy. Now they have fuel for a new overlaping generation of unlimited years.
One prominent American religion confidently predicted that the world would end in 1914. Well, 1914 has come and gone, and - whole the events of that year were certainly of some importance - the world did not, at least so far as I can see, seem to have ended. There are at least three responses that an organized religion can make in the face of such a failed and fundamental prophecy. They could have said, Oh, did we say '1914'? So sorry, we meant '2014'. A slight error in calculation. Hope you weren't inconvinenced in any way. But they did not. They could have said, Well, the world would have ended, except we prayed very hard and interceded with God so He spared the Earth. But they did not. Instead, the did something much more ingenious. They announced that the world had in fact ended in 1914, and if the rest of us hadn't noticed, that was our lookout. It is astonishing in the fact of such transparent evasions that this religion has any adherents at all. But religions are tough. Either they make no contentions which are subject to disproof or they quickly redesign doctrine after disproof. The fact that religions can be so shamelessly dishonest, so contemptuous of the intelligence of their adherents, and still flourish does not speak very well for the tough- mindedness of the believers. But it does indicate, if a demonstration was needed, that near the core of the religious experience is something remarkably resistant to rational inquiry. [Carl Sagan, "Broca's Brain"]

I am having some reservations about Barbara Anderson
by JWoods inrecently, there was a very nice thread in which one of our posters apologized for having the temerity to challenge barbara anderson.. i thought it was very nice to see that they made up and put the personal stuff aside.. however, i felt the need to call it like i really feel it - i was very put off by the barbara anderson reply in which she plugged her new promotional meeting.
it brought back memories of that horrid little affair from a couple of years back when she kept posting up "the greatest new thing about blood which will bring down the watchtower society is just around the corner -- and i could tell you but then i would have to kill you, etc."..
just like another jehovah's witnesses prophecy about the coming of the lord in our time.. i am beginning to wonder if perhaps the siren song of self-promotion is getting a little too strong for real life.. ok. i said it.. james - and saying it was not the easiest thing that i have ever done.

Since everybody has an opinion, here's mine:
I was disapointed years ago when I saw what the "Big News" was about. After weeks of fireworks, marching bands and exagerated hype, there was this forgettable lawyer's assay/opinion published in a magazine. However, I can see Barbara's OTHER work as extremely beneficial in exposing the WT's bullshit damaging doctrines to the general public. I think JWoods is out of line and his attacks to B. Anderson are plainly unjustified.
