Has the org changed their position on associating with non-JW family?
by Wild_Thing init would take too long to explain how this conversation came about, but my jw sister recently told me that the organization now teaches that you can (she even suggested that you "should") have a relationship with family members who are not jw.
she didn't specify whether they meant family who were never jws to begin with, or what, but in the context of the conversation we were talking about family members raised as jws but then left (not disfellowshipped or formally disassociated ... just left).. she said they even had a talk about it at the convention this summer, and had an experience of someone who reconnected with family after 10 years.
she said they said you should have a relationship with them, even if they never become witnesses.

No. There has been official change. However there has been a "softening" on it, in the sense that it has not been a drum beat in quite a while. The natural tendency would be to gravitate toward family if there is nothing pulling you away. it may be a change in that sense. I also believe that it is a bit self serving in that you cant witness to family that you aint talking to. just my personal thought on that, but no there has been no official change.

Frankly, when I'm outside working, i hate going into a 7-11 and being pestered by friends doing street work. I hate having my door knocked on when I'm relaxing at home, so I get it. That said the whole thing was petty on your part Jim. but if it made you feel better then kudos to you

Fight with wife over watching Avatar escalates to near-separation--true story
by sd-7 init's true because it happened to me last night.
i knew it was trouble when she started looking at my kindle.
once she got to the short stories i wrote 3 years ago, autobiographical, some of it involving her, i knew i wouldn't be going to bed before 1:00 (it was 11:40 p.m. by then).

As an Elder I completely agree with the last two posts. SD-7 being reinstated is not the issue. the obligations between husband and wife do not end with someone being DF'd. Whatever his state or her state with the congregation they are married and should act accordingly. In the short time I have been here I have come to Love you yknot, but I completely disagree with the carrot thing here also. There is no carrot for a selfish woman like that other than to give her exactly what she wants all the time. And by give her what she wants I mean to act, think, do and say everything, all the time as she would have it. The sad part? even if SD could do that she still wouldn't be happy because she is not happy with herself. I think yknot is looking at this through the prism of reasonable and understanding woman. This is a self absorbed child, not a mature woman. Jehovah does not want nor need people to be in this organization to please a marriage mate. I understand why some have made the choice to stay because of a mate. That's where I am right now myself. But my wife and I get along well and its a calculated sacrifice on my part. This thing with SD is not a calculated matter but emotional black mail. Paying black mail never resolves anything, it only encourages more black mail.

Reading peoples hearts
by highdose inhi.
this is inspired by another thread, but heres something that always bugged me.... if god wanted to know if abraham really was faithful... then why didn't he use his abilty to look into his heart and find out?
instead of putting the poor man and his son through a near death/ murder situation??

Still an interesting thread. I read those letters to the branch and their responses with great interest. My question remains.. What is your contention on what Jah was asking? I'm sure it was there but I missed it somewhere along the way. I completely understand the comparison with Jephthah and the words used but what, specifically, do you think Jah was asking of Abraham? The branch has long held that this was a prophetic drama played out that pointed to Jehovah allowing his own son to be offered up on our behalf. Is your question related why Abraham was asked to play this drama out? or is is whether he was asked at all to play it out? It's clear the creator NEVER intended that the sacrifice be made but rather was giving us all a very real, human, comparison for what he was going to do for all man kind. My appreciation for the ransom of the Christ is enhanced beyond all words as a result of this account. It is the only account that on some level portrays the depth of the ransom from Jehovah's persecutive in a way that men can understand. How would a translating of the word sacrifice be consistent with the prophetic drama if Abraham's understanding was not an offering up of his son? The Christ had to die. For the drama to be consistent Abraham would have to have the understanding that his son was to die. Of course the blood of an imperfect man could never serve as a ransom, but it was not supposed to. It was being play out in a "illustrative way" as Paul points out. Abraham perhaps never understood the full significance of what he had been involved with but we do. It was done for all those after Christ sacrifice to enhance our understand. Perhaps I have missed the point of your argument and look forward to hearing what you have to say on the matter.
On an unrelated note to your original thought, it is the most disappointing aspect of this organization that we do not encourage questions. I give blind obedience to no one but God and I am sorry that you were DF"d over something like this.

again as one still "in" who has no intention of leaving faith in the Christ, i would also point out that that Paul said that Abraham reckoned that God could raise him up from the dead. He and his wife had no children until they were beyond child rearing age. It was already a miraculous situation in their minds that they had a child as it was, it wasn't to far a stretch to assume that if he was told to sacrifice him that God had a plan after that. Also remember Abraham's words to his son that a sacrifice would be provided. I don't believe that any of this will sway those who view this account negatively, but it helps me sleep at night

Michael Jackson---What Was Your Opinion Of Him?
by minimus ina year ago, mj suddenly died.
for years, multitudes of people said michael jackson was a "sicko" a "wacko", a "child molester" and an "addict".. once he died, the man was glorified by people, the media and his family.. what did you think about michael?.....personally, i thought he was an eccentric ultra-gifted artist who was childlike and brilliant.
i was never convinced that he was a child molester but i will say i thought his behavior was "weird" with kids (and adults)..

fair enough on the olive branch thing. I think everyone who is married or who has been in a long term relationship feels your pain and hopes for a happy resolution, whatever that may be.

aww missjackson, no more PM's? you have now turned back to public hating... as I said privately, whatever you want. The hate is funny to me. I continue to LOL at you and your husband. Once you overcome your fear, i think you'll find life much more enjoyable. You wont have to attack things that are different or that intimidate you. Peace within is the most cherished possession we can attain. Keep searching and I'm confident you and yours will be at peace one day. I wish you all the best missjackson on your quest for peace and inner fulfillment
