Tame animals in the New System
by brotherdan inso i was thinking about this whole idea of animals being tame and getting along with each other and how the wts depicts this in their artwork.
i'm having a major issue with this.
how far down the food chain would this go?

i was actually going to comment on that very thing TD. its not just digestive. The very TEETH of these animals are not designed to process the vegetable matter. and might I point out Alice, that the OP was not about HUMANS, who are perfectly capable of living as vegetarians, but animals. Your reading comprehension is lacking a bit. Could you also, Alice, address the creature that have been mentioned, such as sharks, crocodiles and snakes and what they may eat? (lol'd at the shark eating algae BTW)
However the concept that predatory animals will pose no threat to humans is at least understandable.
also a few quotes for those who may be interested:

In that restored Paradise, will Isaiah’s prophecy have a further, perhaps more literal, fulfillment? It seems reasonable to think so. The prophecy gives to all who will live under the Messiah’s rule the same assurance that it gave to the returning Israelites; they and their children will not feel threatened by harm from any source—human or animal. Under the Messiah’s Kingdom rule, all earth’s inhabitants will enjoy peaceful conditions like those that Adam and Eve enjoyed in Eden. Of course, the Scriptures do not reveal every detail of what life was like in Eden—or of what it will be like in Paradise. We can be confident, though, that under the wise and loving rule of the King Jesus Christ, everything will be just as it should be.

Jehovah’s words are finding a thrilling fulfillment among true worshipers today. Since 1919, God has blessed the spiritual land of his people, transforming it into a spiritual paradise. Those coming into this spiritual paradise make remarkable changes in their lives. (Ephesians 4:22-24) With the help of God’s spirit, individuals who at one time had beastlike personalities—who perhaps exploited or otherwise victimized their fellowman—make progress in taming undesirable traits. As a result, they enjoy peace and unity of worship with fellow believers. The blessings now enjoyed by Jehovah’s people in their spiritual paradise will extend into the physical Paradise, where the peace prevailing among humans will be matched by peace with the animals. We can be sure that in God’s due time, his original commission to mankind will be properly carried out: “Subdue [the earth], and have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving upon the earth.”—Genesis 1:28.

How grateful we are for Jehovah’s promise to create “new heavens and a new earth”! That promise had a fulfillment in 537 B.C.E. and is having a further fulfillment today. These two fulfillments point the way to a glorious future for obedient mankind. Jehovah has kindly given us, through Isaiah’s prophecy, a glimpse of what he has in store for those who love him. Truly, we have every reason to heed Jehovah’s words: “Be joyful forever in what I am creating”!—Isaiah

Dan, you just hit on a source of cognitive dissonance for me. this has been a bee in my bonnet since I was 5 years old. You simply cannot have, for example, great white sharks eating straw. Clearly the words of Isiah are symbolic but our wonderfully org has turned them into a promise that the creator never intended. Lions, who's very teeth are not designed to eat vegetables, eating straw.. ludicrous.. sharks eating... what? saltwater crocodiles eating...apples? please.

Women as weaker vessel - explain?
by Libelle inok, the mr. constantly rolls his eyes and tells me i just don't understand anytime any of his literature shows up with something along the lines of "women are the weaker vessel.
" apparently (at least in his own little mind), it does not mean women are these delicate, breakable, weaker things, but something else... something more subtle.
anytime he's ever explained it to me (which has been a few years, i reckon), it's come out sounding like reason for women being second class citizens... is he just putting his own spin on it?

forget the stones...
Please note gary, that much of what was discussed was not what is but rather what the bible means by the offending remark. I agree completely with the "equal responsibilities" factor. However, overall the point is that women are not second class, not that they want equal responsibilities. I dont expect my wife to cut the grass and she dosent expect me to wash the dishes. The responsibilities are not equal but it is fair.

IMHO you're a mighty fine example of your kind.
Why thank you Mrs Jones.. that truly put a smile on my face

*sigh*... heaven i understand. Options, choices, are everything. Freedom means a choice to do or not to do, as you see fit. I get it. I also understand everything watersprout was saying and the examples of "control' that all too many men try to exercises. However, none of that is what any of the quotes i posted were advocating. and for every example of equality and not being the weaker vessel etc etc that people post I can post a thousand examples of women looking to men for protection and the like. Hell Mrs Jones threatened to sick her husband on me when she thought i was saying something she didn't like. a 'brother' said something to my wife this weekend that she didn't like and came to me to get him strait (I gladly did)..I am not denying or advocating the denial of rights to women. I LOVE my wife and daughter, there are a some women, including one on this board, who i actively seek out for input and certainly view as my equal. My wife is not now nor would she ever tolerate being treated as "lesser" in our relationship. Far from it, she tends to get whatever she wants, as long as it dosent hurt the family as a whole. Hell i'm painting my bathroom "burnt orange" because its what she wants..
but i am still the man when its all said and done. I dint ask for it. I just am.

Meeting topics that cover sex
by Libelle inoccassionally the mr will say that "some visitors are shocked because we will talk about sex, even with children in attendance.
" what exactly are they talking about in these meetings.
things like "don't masturbate" or things like if you position yourself like this, and your woman like this while having sex, then you're fornicating?.

again, I understand but if you are having marital problems and your man says "hey honey I'm going to do the dishes and afterwords lets go upstairs and have sex" it isn't going to fly. The housework, in and of itself, does not equal intimacy. The housework only helps when everything else is already there, when you ALREADY were willing to be intimate. Thus I say without fear or hesitation, housework does not equal sex
(but I understand it dosent hurt)

I wonder... how do you ladies feel about what misery said? As I mentioned, the council has benefited me in how I treat my wife. That includes the things misery mentioned. I too open doors etc etc and expect any young man who wants my daughters affection to do the same. that is an offshoot of the "weaker vessel" concept.
Also to lilith's point, weaker, in the JW biblical context, means exactly that women are valuable but NOT second class. I know I am going to take heat for that but concider... women are given every benefit of every doubt by most JW's. In many congregations, if a guy and a gal sleep together, the man gets DF'd but not the women. True, women cannot carry mikes or be elders but dear God, would you want to? it is more of a reflection that women dont work we do than women are not qualified. I know the whole teaching thing burns some, but again, would want a part on the meeting every week? I understand that to blanket disqualify all women is short sighted. I benefit from the viewpoints of women frequently, including one "deer" sister on this board.. but does it really chap your ass that bad that for three hours a week, only men get to speak?
