4Jwy,
Thanks so much for posting that quote! It was the right words at the right time for me.

i found these two references very interesting.....i reflected on the mentality of the witnesses in my old congregations in janesville, wisconsin....i realised they weren't a 'happy' people because they had the "truth", they were in truth happy because of being all medicated (prozac).

i figured i'd post this on here (i wish i could take credit for it, but it was written by a guy who goes by the name "pook".
it's one of the things i read that helped me on my way to being successful as a single ex-jw.
even though society teaches men to repress their sexuality, jws do it worse.
"If you want to get a really great girl [or boy]...start working on your character and self-control--(not b/c it's you, but b/c those two things are REALLY uncommon these days)--because a great girl [or boy] is one who's been working on that already and she'll [he'll] recognize it in you.
A Man [or Woman] has character and deep convictions. He [She] has PASSION in life about something. It is this passion that transforms his [her] life, gives him [her] confidence, and gives him [her] joy. It is this PASSION that will give you that right mindset for you have goals and dreams that go beyond chicks [boys].
Remember, if you cannot command respect, you cannot attract love. If you cannot be respected, women [men] will ignore you and/or abuse you."
Great advice for everyone, hence my additions in brackets.
And as far as women gossiping-in the town I just moved from, you couldn't even find a seat at the local restaurant in the morning, because all the men gather there every morning to have coffee and gossip-er "talk"
one thing that always struck me was the rather dour nature of the organization.
i know people laugh, and at seem to have a good time, at least occasionally.
however, one thing i just haven't seen is a real outpouring of joy, like david dancing like a crazy man or some of the other occassions in the scriptures when it seems like people were almost overcome with joy.. anyone here ever feel real joy as a witness?
There were times that I thought I did-when I first started studying,at my baptism, and at an international convention. But as far as at the regular weekly meetings, I don't recall any such feeling-just anxiety that I wasn't ever doing enough.
This Sunday, I attended the service at a Unitarian Universalist church. It was an intergenerational service honoring young UUs who were graduating from high school and heading off to college. The whole service was infused with joy, from the sermon to the beautiful cantata that was sung in honor of the graduates. The words for the kids were so nourishing, and the music so touching (real LIVE singing, not a tinny recording), I felt joy so strongly, it moved me to tears. It was so awesome to leave that service and cry because something made me HAPPY, after leaving the Kingdom Hall so many times in tears of frustration and grief .
One lesson I learned from being JW, was that if I EVER feel like I did in the years before I left the organisation in any religion I am involved with again, I will quit!
i dont know if this has already been posted .sorry if it has.
i understand the above wt in letters to the readers takes time to tell all that the holy spirt is not a person ( still a thing like electricty).
it cannot believe they can tell the people that they cannot be indwelt by the holy spirit .but they can believe they can be indwelt with demons.....go figure that one.!!!!.
Sounds like the usual doublespeak, Mouthy.
CeriseRose-If you really want magazines to read, check the waiting rooms at your local hospital. There's usually a set of magazines laying around there Or are they lying around there, lol.

I found it very interesting that the Sinclair group claimed to pull these because it felt that the show was being used to promote anti-war sentiment. Until I read the statement from them, it never crossed my mind that that was the purpose of this show. I just thought it was like the reading of the names of all those who had died on 9/11. Many other journalists felt the same way. They admitted that Nightline has covered many issues involving the war.
I also found it very interesting that Sinclair group has donated thousands of dollars to President Bush's campaign. So are they going to say that THEY have no political motivation in making this decision?
Mostly, I find it very disturbing that in a country that prides itself on freedom of speech and the press, we seem to lose those freedoms when we need them the most.

i have been reading about carl jung and the archtypes from the collective unconscious.. i think it very benificial to fantasize or imagine your own personal guru,, to guide you through life,,to have genuine coversations with this mythological figure of your imagination.
i feel such a figure can grow to be quite an asset in dealing with your lifes problems.
they say there are 12 basic types or archtypes,,have any here tried this approach?
When I was young, I came up with many archetypes on my own, before I knew anything about Jung. They didn't stay consistent, though. They seemed to change as I went through different stages of my life. I tried the Caroline Myss approach, but quickly lost interest.I just can't settle on twelve archetypes.
I have my own system that I use when I feel like it. As Shakespeare said "the world's a stage, and we are the actors" or something like that, anyway. When I'm faced with problems to solve, I imagine myself as an actor on a stage. I look at the script (which contains the problem) and decide what character will handle it the best.I imagine that character going flawlessly through their part, and I listen to what the character says. Sometimes I get insight on how to solve the problem, sometimes not. But I don't talk to the actor, I AM the actor, playing that particular script. It's not nearly as complicated as it sounds, nor is it time consuming. Plus, I like theater, so it interests me.
In reference to Jung's guru-has anyone else noticed how much he looked like Freud?
i have to admit that we gave our first two kids 'hebrew' names.
i don't want to identify my children online but suffice to say that we had at least some sense in that we opted for safe names of the samuel and daniel type - no melchizedeks!.
however, in our city we had a javan a samson [gen 10:2] and even a zechariah!
Yes, and grooooaaaan, they are unusual. Nobody can spell them, nobody can pronounce them, and they confuse them with other names that are more common. I told my kids they are welcome to legally change their names to the ones everyone calls them any way. One son is considering it, but the other likes his unusual name just fine (lots of pretty girls comment on how "original" it is, lol).
reading through some of the recent posts, ie; the topic of lazarus and the gay issue, i was flabbergasted at what i was reading.
i can't believe-well maybe i can, that some people on this site are calling gay people "faggots", and telling that person that they are going to get "what sodom and gomorrah got".. this site has been a godsend to me, and have been telling my friends how nice it is to be in with a group of people who can relate to my life, my feelings, my insecurities, and my fears relating to the org.
and not being a part of it anymore.
Hi Cowboy,
I'm really sorry that someone had to post such offensive material on this board! Anyway, the ONLY definition for that word that I acknowledge is:
A bundle of pieces of wrought iron to be shaped by rolling or hammering at high temperatures
i am watching prince talking to the reporter on cnbc, and she asked him if he is now one of jehovah's witnesses and he said......."yes".
i have read things in magazines and newspaper articles but i really could not believe that he was an active witness.
well, i guess i had to hear it with my own ears.
That's what I thought too, Undercover
