A collection of reasons: hypocrisy within the congregation, doubts that the elder body is guided by holy spirit, questioning the logic of the god of the bible. But mostly a nagging gut feeling that something wasn't right. I don't handle authority very well....think that was the bug that stirred me out of this controlled group.

May 15th WT - Wives Should be Obedient, Submissive & Not Disagree
by flipper inonce again we received the may 15th " witness only " wt from our lurking jw friend.
even though i've been out for over 7 years and haven't attended in that long - i never cease to be amazed at the arrogance of this patriarchal man pleasing wt society in it's dismissive attitude towards women .
it's horrible.

Good post Flipper. That article is sickening. They're really laying it on heavy.
"The great unmentionable evil at the center of our culture is monotheism. From a barbaric Bronze Age text known as the Old Testament, three anti-human religions have evolved — Judaism, Christianity, Islam. These are sky-god religions. They are, literally, patriarchal — God is the Omnipotent Father — hence the loathing of women for 2,000 years in those countries afflicted by the sky-god and his earthly male delegates."
– Gore Vidal
Women should be proud they didn't write one single line in the Bible. Why they continue to support the very means that suppresses them is beyond me. -

JW superstitions about the memorial -
by james_woods innow that we are all thinking about jw memorial - i was just remembering all the silly superstitions the jws have put around this - their only holiday.
as far as i can tell, none of these are actually biblical:.
1) - it must be held only once per year.. 2) - it must be held on "nisan 14".. 3) - it must be held after sundown.. 4) - the bread must be unleavened.. 5) - the wine must be plain (not fortified) red wine.

But you knew you were "made" when your parents let you pass it without their fingers stabilizing it. "Sweet, I must be old enough to get baptized now," says the 9 year old under his breath.
LOL. Yep...I remember wanting to hold the damn glass myself "I won't spill the Jesus blood!" Parents hands were like training wheels.
In our family the memorial wasn't just a one night thing. We did the whole bible reading schedule the week prior...jesus last days...to get in the proper frame of mind. -

Late in my fading years I remember having a couple drinks before heading to the memorial. Just couldn't bare to go. That was my mini revolt.

Are you your own worst enemy?
by Terry inever heard that phrase?
"he is his own worst enemy.."?.
of course, the meaning is obvious: some persons do themselves far more harm than a dedicated enemy could.. .

I TRY to be self-aware, conscious of my emotional response to conflict or disagreement.
Usually I am genuinely interested in the opposing view...what makes a person tick to believe what they believe. But when I see something categorically unfactual like "there is evidence of a global flood" AND a dose of mocking sincerity....well it becomes difficult. Best to walk away...but easier said than done.
In some way we're all our own worst enemy.

Right...forgot about the speaker plate pass. What an odd display.
You couldn't just say, "no thank you". You had to show your rejection of Christ's blood/body by physical action, not just words.
Touch the plate dammit! Touch it and hold for a "one mississippi, two mississippi"!
