JW superstitions about the memorial -
by james_woods innow that we are all thinking about jw memorial - i was just remembering all the silly superstitions the jws have put around this - their only holiday.
as far as i can tell, none of these are actually biblical:.
1) - it must be held only once per year.. 2) - it must be held on "nisan 14".. 3) - it must be held after sundown.. 4) - the bread must be unleavened.. 5) - the wine must be plain (not fortified) red wine.

Good stuff, woods. My mother would sometimes make the unleavened bread. It was treated with such reverence but put on a plate with a paper doily. After the memorial we'd munch on it and the rest unceremoniously dumped in the trash.
Also, always found it strange when the brothers who passed the bread and wine around, would then pass to eachother. Like they had yet to have it passed to them. Didn't they just do that, like 20 times or so?

Jehovah the lazy God.
by cyberjesus inwhen your wife/husband or someone promises to wash the dishes or any other chore and just procrastinates, they need a reminder or sometimes a constant plea or request to do it.
--- please do the dishes, or can you please do the dishes... when they are really lazy about it then you endup asking the request many many times.... when you really want to do the dishes .... you just do it.
you dont need anyone to remind you are ask you constantly to do it.

How did we get HERE from way back THERE?
by Terry inlet's just say, for the sake of the discussion, that jesus never made any prophetic statements at all.
his disciples and apostles had the highest possible opinion of him because of the way he lived, spoke, treated people, etc.. his followers were indoctrinated from birth (as jews) to expect that, someday, a righteous political and religious leader (messiah) would appear.. they were eager for this messiah to arrive.
they were eager for jesus to be that leader.. his followers made the "leap of faith" and believed: jesus was that messiah.

The OP is searing logic, Terry. In some shape or form that is likely what went down.
Whenever a definite statement needs to be eliminated all you have to do is "spiritualize" it into a mere poetic expression.
Fortunately, that never happens on this forum.

I think Cofty's post is worthy of repeating...
Shelby this is on a par with the claim that several scientists believe in a flat earth. A lifetime is not long enough to study all the evidence for evolution including human origins.
There is no scientific debate about the fact of evolution but there is a great deal to learn about the details. Maybe somebody else has the patience to go into detail I just find it tiresome. Thank god the UK doesn't suffer from the level of science denial that seems to be so prevelant in the USA. Your country's future is in jeopardy unless you grow out of it.
If Terry is still jonesing for " indepth analysis of thought-provoking issues" he won't find it on this thread topic.

Glenn Beck’s Fox show dropped

NEW YORK (AP) — Fox News Channel on Wednesday said it was dropping Glenn Beck’s afternoon talk show, which has sunk in the ratings and suffered financially due to an advertiser boycott. Fox and Beck said the show will end later this year.
Fox News and Beck’s company, Mercury Radio Arts, said they will work together to create other projects for Fox television and digital.
Beck was a quick burn on Fox News Channel. Almost immediately after joining the network in January 2009, he doubled the ratings at his afternoon time slot. Fans found his conservative populism entertaining, while Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert described Beck’s “crank up the crazy and rip off the knob” moments.
He was popular with Tea Party activists and drew thousands of people to the National Mall in Washington last August for a “restoring honor” rally.
Yet some of his statements were getting him in trouble, and critics appealed to advertisers to boycott his show last summer after Beck said President Barack Obama had “a deep-seated hatred for white people.”
More than 400 Fox advertisers told the company they did not want their commercials on Beck’s show.
Viewers also began turning away. Beck’s 5 p.m. ET show averaged 2.7 million viewers during the first three months of 2010, and was at just under 2 million for the same period this year, the Nielsen Co. said. His decline was sharper among younger viewers sought by advertisers.
Increasingly, the show began to be dominated by Beck standing in front of a chalk board giving his theories about the world’s troubles.
However, Beck has built a powerful brand for himself with a radio show and digital properties. A key Fox executive, Joel Cheatwood, is joining Mercury Radio Arts later this month.
“I truly believe that America owes a lot to Roger Ailes and Fox News,” Beck said in a statement. “I cannot repay Roger for the lessons I’ve learned and will continue to learn from him and I look forward to starting this new phase of our partnership.”
One of Beck’s most prominent critics — David Brock, founder of the liberal watchdog Media Matters for America — said that “the only surprise is that it took Fox News months to reach this decision.”
