This is a good question. Spiritual can be defined as "of or relating to religion or religious belief" which would include belief in spirits. But it can also have other meanings such as "relating to, or affecting the human spirit". Such as leavingwt said...music does it for him.

although it has lost some of it's prior glory and has waaaay too many classes that are televised and billed as "main events", it's still better than mma (sorry to any mma fans; i actually don't mind ufc, i'm just saying that i prefer traditional boxing).. anywho, what is the deal with jws hating on boxing?
Hagler was robbed right?!?!? I still get angry over that fight till this day.
Of course I didn't think so when I watched when I was young. Leonard being the fan fav, and his flashiness, made an impression. Watching it years later, it was clear Hagler controlled the rounds for over 2 mins...only to have Leonard steal the end of the round with a flashy display. It actually was a good strategy...it worked on the judges.

I remember when my friend told me Tyson was KO'd by Douglas. Didn't believe him...there was NO WAY. Also recall going to the bar to watch fights with JW friends, that was back in the Holyfield/Bowe days.
Mosley stifled mayweather in the second round, if he can get to pac in the first 4 rounds, he might have a chance.
Mosley is going to get a beating from Pacman. Did you see him against Sergio Mora? That fight stunk up the joint. And unfortunately I don't think we'll see Pac/Mayweather. Floyd don't have the cajones to risk his precious little undefeated record.

Falcon, big boxing fan here. Bragging first: I beat Tyson 3 or 4 times as a kid, back when my reflexes were still kickass. Was a matter of memorizing his patterns and reacting at exactly the right moment. Wasn't much room for error. Dug out the ol' Nintendo years later and couldn't come close.
I don't recall hearing too much about 'boxing is bad' while a JW. Think it was my father, a devout elder, that got me into it...though unintentionally I'm sure. Remember him watching Ali fights, and vividly remember watching Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Hagler. Though wasn't something he broadcasted, kinda one of those secret pleasures. Like drinking.

Why the need to consider ourselves qualitatively different? Doesn't that stem from a stance of arrogant superiority? We are all part of the same thing...nature. We are the most consciously advanced and intelligent creatures on this planet, which brings with it advanced emotions such as love and caring. But we see similar caring emotions in the rest of the animal kingdom, increasingly as to the higher intelligence. We can learn a lot about ourselves and the roots of human nature from our cousins. Chimpanzees mourn the death of their own...as in the pic below, mourning the passing of an elder. Doesn't this very act add value to the passed elderly chimp's life? Why do we need god to assign value to our lives? Don't we do that already with and for eachother and ourselves?

hi, i'm not new here, been lurking forever, just a new poster.
i was a jw for 25 years, did it all,been out now for 7 years, for the most part have healed pretty good.....but some things can't seem to shake.
the thing i'm most regretful of is raising my children in that cult, if i could just re-do that, i think i could be totally over the trauma of the 25 years i was in.
Welcome doughnut! Glad you're out along with your whole family. Unfortunately, don't think that ever will happen with mine. My parents are in their 60s...not only do I think they'll never leave but at that age CAN'T leave.
