What If The Bible Had Never Existed???
by ziddina ini'm thinking way outside the box here.... i looked up my thread title before starting this thread and guess what??.
no one appears to have ever considered this question before.... i've seen far, far, far too many people of european/british isles/african/american extraction defending this regional middle-eastern 'god', without realizing that their ancestors would never have willingly consented to give up their own deities to worship this interloper thrust upon them, usually at the point of a roman sword... or occasionally for trading advantages, as in the case of many of the heathen viking - norsemen.... so.
what if the bible had never existed?.

That would have been great then because the Bible is an EPIC FAIL.
Agreed Sweeney. Unless one considers suppression of women, mutilation and abuse of children, slavery, genocide, infanticide, hate for homosexuals success...then sure, the bible was an epic success.

A few Dawkins quotes to think about.
by AK - Jeff in"faith is the great cop-out, the great excuse to evade the need to think and evaluate evidence.
faith is belief in spite of, even perhaps because of, the lack of evidence.".
"my last vestige of "hands off religion" respect disappeared in the smoke and choking dust of september 11th 2001, followed by the "national day of prayer," when prelates and pastors did their tremulous martin luther king impersonations and urged people of mutually incompatible faiths to hold hands, united in homage to the very force that caused the problem in the first place.".

Of course animals suffer....even if they don't know the word. And to debate the use of the word 'suffer' in this instance is just fanciful wordplay. Watch the documentary 'The Cove' and see if there's a better word for it.
And yes, they too grieve. -

Atheism is truly the blind faith.
How many times can we kick this dead horse?

Microevolution vs Macroevolution (NOT an evolution vs creation debate)
by pirata ini've heard the distinction between microevolution and macroevolution a lot, especially from intelligent design arguments.
microevolution being defined as changes or adaption within a species, and macroevolution being changes from one species to another.
my impression is that there really is no such meaningfule distinction between macro and micro in the modern scientific sense of evolutionary theory.

This is one of the best ways I've seen to explain/demonstrate micro vs. macro evolution...
Also illustrates the fault in asking "where are the transitional fossils?" -

Can't remember if that last quote is from The God Delusion or Greatest Show on Earth. But when I read it I thought of how many believe in or accept the principle of karma. After leaving the Dubs I still held on to some belief in a karma system...that somehow the universe was looking out for you. Had a plan for you.
When you observe our natural world it just isn't so. Believe in karma? Tell that to the mother in Haiti who lost her children in the earthquake. Tell that to the man in Japan that lost his family to the tsunami. Tell that to the 8-year-old that dies from brain cancer. What did they do to deserve that karma?
It just isn't so. The universe is neither for nor against us. It is indifferent...whether you like it or not.

Any God that let's baby's and children die is not my God
by Star tiger in.
i working in an old peoples home and i can understand that after a long life they die, but not in this horrible way of not knowing their family lost somewhere in their mind.. worse than that is the thought of children dying it angers me extremely that a god of love would allow this on the basis of his own ego!!!.
