Thanks everyone! It seems like you only ever hear negatives on only children. I am constantly being asked 'when is the next baby?' and hearing people saying, 'oh, but you've got to have another one so your daughter has someone to play with'. We might, we might not, depending more on circumstances than anything else. My brother's partner has just had a baby, so we're hoping that they can become close cousins!

Arts Degree Bummer
by JW83 inis there anyone out there who can relate to the awful hollow feeling you get when you finish 4 1/2 years of uni to be qualified for absolutely nothing?!
i have to do postgrad next year to make anything of my honours degree & at the moment i am working part-time as a legal secretary, which i absolutely hate.
i think i have a severe case of burnout ...

Historian! Hopefully the honours thesis I just wrote will be turned into an article & submitted for publication in a journal (this year or next year). Then next year PhD, which would be turned into a book, then a job as a lecturer/researcher at a university of my choice, then fame & notoriety - historian of the year! Plus massive book sales! I don't want much ...

Unplanned pregnancy?!
by JW83 inthis sort of follows on from another thread about having kids.. is there anyone else out there coping with raising a child from an unplanned pregnancy?
i got pregnant about 18 months after i left the borg & i sure as hell blame my lack of experience/knowledge!

Thanks for all your replies. Yes, there is a Mr. I had been going out with him for 2 months, got engaged, then got pregnant 3 months after that! Then we got married 4 months after we found out! So we had known each other for exactly one year, & going out for 10 months when we got married! Then my daughter was born 4 months later. Talk about whirlwind ... We were both at uni & broke, but I just couldn't terminate, even though we made the appointment. It has been a real learning curve & I can't believe I'm not happy & organised yet - we fight a lot, we're always broke, & I've had to finish uni & go straight to work at a job I hate. I'd love to just spend some time being a mum & growing into the role properly, but my baby is almost 3 already! There's also the whole only child thing ... I think I need a life mentor or something. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent! You're all stars!

A holiday is a good idea - unfortunately my hubby wants us to save save save so we can buy a house within the next century ... I am broke ... I am working 3 days a week & have a 2yo ... But still a good idea - I'll try to think of a solution!

Yes I can go straight to a PhD if I get first class honours. I would rather kill myself than do law. I can't drive very well! Any more suggestions? I really need some motivation to get through the next 6 months of filing etc ...

What Were Your Experiences In Dating JWs?
by minimus inwere they all dates from hell?
any "immorality"?
did you ever "date" knowing the person was never "marriage material"?

What soledad said too, except I was 24. I asked a guy out in my cong 3 times - yes, count them! - & then after I recovered from that awful experience, got interested in a pio bro who treated me like crap & said I was 'naive'. I guess I was - I actually believed that no one had sex before marriage!!!! The year I left I had a 'special connection' with a married father I met at a q'build - nothing happened, but the spark was struck, & I was outta there in a few months. After I left, my self-esteem resurrected, & am now married - but wish I'd had a chance to sow a few more wild oats ...

Good points, but evolution is hardly a matter of orderly development, from what I understand. Species are continually becoming extinct, & it is a human arrogance to presume that we are the top of the tree. We could just as easily become wiped out, but as long as the earth exists, life will continue in some form.

I majored in history, so I can't even do that!
I'm waiting for my results at the moment to see whether I'll do a PhD next year (including scholarship) or a DipEd (no money) to teach (yuk!) Pretty stressful ... And now I'm back where I started, filing, photocopying, & being treated like crap by solicitors.
