Honestly, I can't stand the saying "I felt raped" that gets thrown around. Unless they have personally been raped, they have absolutely no right to say it. They just sound like a cry baby whinging about nothing.

I am confused on the JW's 1000 year reign doctrine. Please explain it to me.

i admit i still think they got some of their teachings correct but one doctrine i think is full of bologne is the 1000 year reign doctrine.
if jesus came into power in 1914 and now it is 2014 does that mean jws believe it will only be a 900 year reign?

As was taught to me from the time I was born, the 1000 years starts after armageddon once a few billion people are wiped off the earth.
The thousand years is spent cleaning the mess, then the resurrection begins, first with the righteous, then the unrighteous who are then made to learn and come to love jehovah. Oh god, I'm feeling a little nauseous. Then everyone plays around in an orderly fashion for the rest of the thousand years. Once that hits, Satan and his demons are let out to have a little fun. Anyone who rebels against god is destroyed forever and once Satan and his demons are gone, everyone who passed gods test get to live forever.
I couldn't think of a more boring way to spend an eternity.But I guess that's it in a nutshell.

Personally I feel at the end of the day, people are anti-semitic for very basic reasons. They were raised to think that way by generations of idiots, they are just ignorant uneducated idiots or hateful idiots.
I have no tolerance for mental defectives who spew shit about certain groups of people.
The 2 excuses I've heard most of is "they think they're special as gods chosen people". My answer that that is, "even if it was true...so what?"
The second is the classic how they run the entire financial world as well as hollywood. My answer to that also is, "even if it was true...so what?"As Apognophos said, "This was a good question for unearthing the ugly and stupid beliefs of some of our fellow posters", I couldn't agree more. I don't comment very often but I still come on and read posts every now and then and I have to say, I can't believe some of the people acting like pork chops about this article.

Some people's inability to read and understand what has actually been written makes sensible conversation on emotive subjects impossible.
Suffice to say Dawkins never excused child abuse of any sort as aceptable and neither has anybody else in this thread.
This line from the article is a load of horseshit that perpetuates a myth that all forms of sexual abuse is equal and all victims are damaged by it.

I just thought he was pretty gross.
After living the previous 4 years with a violent drunk of a stepfather, being felt up by some sleazy old guy was nothing. I was only a 'victim' in the sense he was older and I was at that age very submissive because of my drunk of a stepfather. But it did me no harm whatsoever. I was just grossed out because he was old, ugly and stank of cigarettes.I was also fondled by a female nurse in hospital when I was 8, which also was gross because I was gay and knew it since I was 3, so having a female touch me down there was not a pleasant thing to my mind.
What happened to me was a mild form of sexual abuse, which cannot and never could be compared to what a child goes through that is forcefully raped.
I am not condoning what happened to me or anyone who touches innappropriately or harms children, but the reality is, not all forms of sexual abuse are equal.
Maybe I was just more resilient than someone else in the same situation, but to me it was no big deal.
So to me, all this Richard Dawkins bashing because of what he said is quite pathetic, as he never once condoned sexual abuse in any form.

New DVD review
by Laika ini managed to catch the new dvd on youtube last night before the inevitable takedown.
as a film i felt it wasn't anywhere near as good as the prodigal movie, the story wasn't as dramatic, the characters much less interesting and developed and the direction weaker.
i found the prodigal relatively entertaining (all things considered) this one was just dull.. here are some of my random thoughts anyway [spoiler alert - ha!].

Did any of you know the TATT before you left?
by marriedtoajw ini know that all everyone's experience vary but i ask this because i am under the impression that since jw's are taught to avoid reading material that may be critical of their teachings they just stay away.
yet many of you violated this at some point to come accross information that confirmed or convinced you of "the problems" with the org.
i have also spoken to active jw's online who seem to know the controvercies but still defend the org vigorously.

Cats and Dogs should not be spayed or neutered!
by IMHO ina controversial subject that hasn't been talked about here for 10 years (or so it seems on my quick search).. .
i think it's wrong to spay or neuter.
i bet most of you will disagree.. my vet just called me an irresponsible owner for refusing to have my cat spayed..

People don't keep cats. Cats stay because it's advantageous for them to do so.
We're not talking about a stray cat that's hung around your house. We are talking about a cat that someone purposely acquired either as a kitten or rescued from an animal shelter for the sole purpose of it being a pet. In which case it is your responsibility to make sure it is secure on your property and always inside at night. Besides, if a cat is cared for from a kitten and loved, it won't run away. I had a cat from 10 weeks old, let him outside every day in the yard, sometimes he would jump the back fence and play in the bushes behind our house, mostly he laid in the back yard, but come dinner time, he was always home and then never let out at night.
Why do people get so emotional about cats being killed. They are animals. Those same people would quite happily kill a mouse and not be bothered if "their" cat kills one.
Once again. We are talking about animal that is a pet and is raised as part of your household, not a wild animal. Only a heartless wanker would even ask why people would get emotional when a beloved pet is killed. Your argument makes no sense whatsoever.
Why do people get so emotional when another human is killed? Afterall unless it's someone they're close to, why should they give a shit? Humans are just another species of animal. That seems to be your logic. Why feel something for one kind of animal and not another?I love all animals, you can't have one rule for "pets" and another for all the others.
You do not love all animals or you wouldn't even question of whether it is right spay them or not or even question why people get emotional when one dies. Yes, you can have one rule for pets and another for all others. Of course there are rules for animals people decide to have as pets. And there are good reasons for those laws. There are even different laws regarding pets depending on what kind of property you live on, whether you live in suburbia, city or rural.
