JW Son dead in German plane crash, no big deal!
by noolite inseems to be a jw connection with the crash after all, but it wasn't the co-pilot as some had surmised.

Just to be very clear on this, I personally am not saying it's "no big deal". I think it's a very big deal, that someone dies needlessly and all (if he were) my father can say is "I'm not angry". I would be extremely angry and upset about someone close to me dying in such a manner - that didn't have to happen. It's not like this was a mechanical failure that was out of anyone's control, this was a deliberate action. If you watched the video, you'll see how devoid of emotion his voice and demeanor is when he's speaking - sounds pretty much like the person that spoke at my mom's funeral. Blank, robotic and with no display of emotion. This is pretty much the "company line" that he's speaking, and of course I don't pretend to understand how he feels, I can only see what he is saying publicly, and IMHO it's sad that he pretty much turns his son's death into an advertisement for JW. That's my feeling and opinion, if sir82 and OldHippie feel different, that's their right. I happen to disagree. -

Sir82, watch the video interview, and tell me how concerned and upset he is (isn't). I know if that happened to my son or daughter, I'd be distraught. And why do you think I'm taking out my "anger against JWs on him"? I don't have any anger, just disillusionment at how brainwashed they are when something like this happens. Maybe it's a coping mechanism, but it comes across as unconcerned and callous IMO.
Here's the link to the video interview:

Seems to be a JW connection with the crash after all, but it wasn't the co-pilot as some had surmised. The father of the only American male killed in the crash weighs in with a very mild assessment of the mass murderer, and doesn't seem overly concerned about his son, now deceased.

"The parents of an American victim of the French Alps plane crash said on 27 March they feel sadness for the parents of the co-pilot rather than feeling anger for the loss of their son.
Robert Tansill Oliver, a Jehovah's Witness, lost his 37-year-old son Robert Oliver Calvo in the Germanwings plane crash.
"I don´t feel anger. I'm really sad for the parents of that young pilot. I mean, I can't imagine what they´re going through right now. As well as companions here, they are all feeling, hurting. No we don´t feel anger at all. As Witnesses we are peace makers. We are sorry it happened of course. We blame what the bible calls the rule of the world. We are angry with the rule of the world," Oliver told reporters outside the Rey Don Jaime hotel where the relatives of the victims are staying.
Oliver was not keen on launching legal action over the loss of his son."

I refuse to watch any of these "snuff films" or murder porn like Gregor says. I have a feeling that image would stay in my head the rest of my life so I don't want to even look at it for any reason. That's what these b a s t a r d s want us to see and I won't participate.
This kind of religous violence in the 21st century has no place in the world (nor did it in the past, either). Killing in the name of God, Allah, FSM, whatever, it's sick, sick, sick.
I hope somewhere, sometime, these monsters get what's coming to them.

by minimus ini am inactive for about 10 years now..

Born in, then Inactive & Faded (although there was no such term back then) somewhere around late '82 or early '83, over 30 years ago.
Have only been back one time to a KH, for a funeral last year. It felt really strange being there, everything about it seemed cultish. Strange vibes and lots of questions, I just wanted to get out of there ASAP. I still have chills about that today.

Nothing fun about it when I was a kid, i.e. Rose Bowl in '63. Being all of six years old, it was just something to be endured. Ditto for Atlanta in July of '69. However, by the time I was a teenager, it was good for one thing: scoping out "hot" sisters from congs unknown...I had an excuse to use my high-powered binoculars (supposedly for looking at the stage and watching 'dramas') instead being trained with intensity into the crowds of people hoping for a glimpse of panty or a lean-over. And yes, it happened once in a while, sure made things more interesting and bearable.
My cousin and I would take turns with the binocs and move closer and closer when we found a 'target'. Then we'd both chicken out when it came to possibly following said target and chatting her up. Sometimes we'd walk past and try to get a look at her name badge and make plans to visit her cong...of course this never happened but it was fun to plan (JW version of stalking, but harmless). Why did our cong have nothing but old crows, and all the ones from cities or states away had all the hot young sisters? Such questions would never be answered.
I often thought to myself, I wonder if any of those hot sisters ever had any inkling that they were being watched obsessively by horny young bro's for hours during the long, boring sermons that went in one ear and out the other? Did any of these sisters use their binoculars to check out the guys? Perhaps...
No one I knew listened to even one word coming from the stage - it was just endless droning and waiting for the break so we could get something to eat at the concession stand and walk around and enjoy the 'view'.

Sing Dirges to Jehovah?
by donny inback in 1985 my then-wife and i were having a lunchtime "gathering" at our place to show some support to the ones in our congregation who were full-time pioneers.
i had just recently received the vinyl collection of the songs featured in the song book "sing praises to jehovah" which had been released the previous year.. .
many of these melodies sounded depressing to me although i would have never admitted it at the time.

Oh, how that brings back memories...thanks for the laugh DD. Yep, good 'ol song #62 IIRC "We Are Jehovah's Witnesses" (not "We're Jehovah's Witnesses", the song title was different than the lyrics) - and note the emphasis on ARE - they really wanted to drill it into you. As I recall, this song closed most assembies and many, many meetings. It was by far the most used song in the book, and I knew all the words by heart, just from continuous repetiton. I used to call it the JW National Anthem, because it has the same type of fervor as the US National Anthem. Brainwashing, for sure, but somewhat catchy compared to many others in the old pink songbook...
The other song I recall being used very often was #119 - the last song in the book - "Keep Your Eyes On The Prize". Knew all the words to that by heart too. Even after being out over 30 years now, I can stlll hear the tune in my head, even if I try to block it out. I used to make up lyrics too: Ours is the God of lousy prophecy, what he fortells never comes to be...etc. Sometimes I'd even sing these words (but not loudly, LOL). We had to have some fun, right?

Help with past bulling!
by Joshinaz inhey guys.
i need to speak about something that has haunted me in the past and has affected me still today.. in school from 3rd to 8th grade i have been severly bullied because i was raised as a jehovah's witness.
kids everyday would beat and me call me "jo-ho" and chant the name on the school grounds, and the school bus everyday without stop!
-

I had pretty much the same experience as Joshinaz. Mine was from about 3rd Grade until 6th Grade (1964 - 1969). Kids would gang up on me, sometimes as many as 10 or 12 kicking, spitting, throwing punches. If I fell down, they'd kick me until they got tired, then run off. They'd call me a "jehovah" (not Jo-Ho) and a communist, anything nasty that could come into their minds. I literally couldn't focus in school because they'd tell me "I'll get you after school", and they really meant it! Many times I'd run as soon as the bell rang to try and get away from them. Often they'd ambush me, hiding behind bushes on my route home. Later, when riding the school bus, the driver would let me sit in the front row - often that didn't help because they'd shoot spitballs at me, or come up behind me and use their thumb and forefinger to "thwak" my ears. It was pure torment. To make matters even worse, I was small for my age, making me an even juicier target.
The sad part about it, I understood why I was a target - although I knew it didn't justify their actions. I was a pariah in school since I couldn't celebrate anything, do Pledge of Allegiance, etc. as all of you already know. I didn't have any friends, and there weren't any other JW kids in my class to hang around with, so I became a loner. I just pretty much accepted my fate.
My parents were no help. Mom was a JW, Dad was not. Mom said it was good to be persecuted for Jah, Dad said I should learn to defend myself (while offering no help in doing so). Besides, how can you defend yourself against 10 kids jumping you at one time? Then there were the spankings at the KH, and unjustified beatings at home that I won't even go into now...since we're talking about school bullying. I can really relate to what Joshinaz is talking about.

Does Anyone Remember the "Around The World Assemblies"?
by titch inso, being that it is 2013, i recall that it was 50 years ago, that the "around the world assemblies" were held.
for those of us who lived in southern california, the first week of september was when we had the assembly, and it was held at the rose bowl in pasadena.
yep, the rose bowl, with no seats, per se, but just those hard benches as seats.

I was there at the Rose Bowl too. I was almost six years old, so my memories aren't as clear as someone that is older. I remember being on one of those chartered buses for what seemed like forever getting into the actual grounds. There was a line of traffic a mile long (literally, I think) and no A/C on the bus. Stuffy, uncomfortable, and hotter than hell. You would be already tired before you ever got inside! What I remember best on the bus is having to pee so bad I couldn't wait any longer, so my mom had me piss into a cup we had with us for drinking from...I really don't remember if we reused it later or not. Knowing my mom, we most likely did
Even at that age, I was embarrased as hell but I had to go so bad I didn't care. Yikes, what a memory
Since we lived in Santa Ana at the time, it would take us forever to get home after the sessions too, only to get up and repeat it the next day. I am sure everyone there remembers how badly you wanted to get away from that place, and traffic getting out seemed to take as long, or longer, than getting in!
The only highlight was the food. Maybe it's just glorified prison food, but it was great to be able to relax and eat, between sessions. Any break at all was great...then there would be the dreaded annoucement to return to our seats...we never seemed to find seats in the shade, and even if you did, the sun would move and you'd be in the sun anyway. Does anyone remember how the umbrellas would open like a wave moving across the stands as the sun shifted? You'd be jealous of the people that would have the shaded seats when yours landed in the sun!
Glad all that is over for me, forever. We went through more of the same 8 day torture later on in the 60's in Atlanta. Those young'uns who came later have no idea how lucky they are to not having to go through this torture. Now there's nice air condtioned Assembly halls to nod off to sleep in, although they won't ever get a taste of that fine prison/industrial food anymore.
