hi guys.
last week i was involed in a very distressing situation, going with a family to identify their mother who had commited suicide.. we are waiting for the coroner to release the body for the funneral.. but, so far this year a number of jw have commited suicide in england,why???.
can any one throw a light why so many jw of good standing commit suicide,.
Alice - If antone posted anything from any website that does not fully prase the WT you would deem it apostate, so what would be the point.
There is no "proof" that i have seen, but there is ample proof that depression is higher among JW's per capita than most other religions
i just thought that i would share an observation regarding par 3 of this weeks wt study.

i am wondering if any readers / posters on this forum that still do or used to attend meetings have any thoughts on this.
They pound the notion into you week after week until you feel guilty if you don't feel up-lifterd. It is very similsr to the Mormons saying that you will get the "burning in the bossom" if you truly accept Joseph Smith as the true profit. And when you don't get the burning there is a problem with you. So those in dub land feel they have to be up-lifted and when they don't they pretend they are as not to arouse attention.

if, when you come out of "her," the most glaring and obvious of things that with you is anger, hatred, intolerance, irritability, deceit, loose conduct (and i mean the really loose, not just the typical) and things like these... such that when you communicate with others, including but not necessarily those still in "her"... these things a manifest... are you proving "her" right... that life is "better" on the inside, at least as far as "they" can "see" it?.

I agree, dear Carvin (peace to you!). But I guess my question would be, isn't THEIR conduct, etc., ALSO "human nature"? Yes it is and I do not condem them for it as indivduals.
I absolutely agree. But my question is not about that. It is about whether, if I want people to think that MY "way" is BETTER than THEIR "way"... should I exhibit the exact same emotions, conduct, anger, hatred (for those not "like" me), etc., as "they" do, and if so, why would they want to bother to change over? Why wouldn't they want to stay where they are? - That to is a fair question, and the short answer is no. The problem I have is that I don't believe I "know" that my way is better. Meaning that, I know what I believe and why I believe it, but I am always open to hear and concider other points of view. So that is hard for me to answer perfectly but I hope you know what I'm trying to say.

Indeed. But upon WHOM? The folks who are/were subject to the same thing, even if they're not yet able to see/willing to admit it? Or upon those who put it upon you, most of whom aren't here? I mean, if you WANT those who come here to SEE what you see... why continue to show them what THEY show them? What is the DIFFERENCE? - I don't mean let it out as an attack upon anyone I mean let it out as in freeing ourselves from the hurt, anger, etc... and breath in the air of spiritual freedom. The freedom to approach Christ on our own, if we choose, or to turn away from religion altogether if we choose.
I understand, dear Carvin, for those who've just come out... or perhaps in the last 5 years or so. I am directing my questions to such ones, as I have stated... - Well are you sure you want to put a time limit on peoples recovery? We are all different and we all handle lifes events in our own way. Some people may be able to just walk away and never look back and surref no ill effects, however others may take years to heal or may never heal. Being out of the WT doesn't necessarily being free. There are other who because they are free, and have a love for their fellow man who have suffered the same things spen a lot of time trying to assist in their recovery as well.
I pray we understand each other.

It reminds me that I am not alone in my pain. And that there are many people who care how I am treated.
last night my dad called, (he has become more jw - like since my mom died two years ago).
we talked about normal things, relatives, weather, etc.
until an opportunity rose up and he started with the.
My dad was at one time a very positive and upbeat person. People have always felt close to him because he was easy to be around. Once he became a Dub, he started to change, though I didn't notice it at first because my mother and I too became Dubs also. My sister never did, for which I am grateful. My dad and my sister were very close and after about two years my dad said something to my sister that reallt started me thinkg that something was wrong in the WT. He told her that if she did not join that he is "wiping the dust off his feet and never looking back". As you can imagine this devistated my sister but she stood her ground. I later told my dad that if she joined just to make him happy then her joining would be a lie so therefore meaningless, that fell on deaf ears>
Then the trigger point that made me stop and say this is totally wrong, was my dad saying to me and my best friend, "I want to call your sister every morning and tell her goodbye, in case the big A starts that day." I know that is normal dub thinking but it was not normal for my dad. Never once in his life did he ever have a defeatest attitude, but now he did. It was one of the saddest days in my life.
Maybe he too was/is scared that he wont see the big A, maybe he knows it's a lie, who knows. It is still sad to see our loved ones so beaten up in the name of god.

When they would still knock on my door I would ask them, Why are you here? They would start their presentation, and I would stop them and repeat Why are you here? After a few times they would finally say, What do you mean? I would reply ,Why are you knocking on my door? I would emphasize the YOU until they got it. Eventually they would say because we have to. I asked why, and they went to Matt. To which i went to paul saying some are prophits, some care for poor, some are preachers etc. And would ask are they any of those, do theyknow any one who were those things. To which no was the answer. So I would then ask why do they neglect the larger amount of duties as set fort in the bible. Never got an answer other that they were so booked up that they had to go.

A Guest, I can see where you are comming from and it is a fair question with thoughtful analysis. What you are witnissing(sorry for that term) is just human nature. Do not many people act the same way when they feel betrayed in any relationship? You marrage mate or long time partner betrays you, your job keeps promissing you a position and then give it to someone else, your country tells you one thing then does another and in the process injures/kills many people. You feel betrayed, and then all those "symptoms" you mentioned show. With the WT we were all betrayed and continue to be so, and we see our family and friends, as well as many new victoms being betrayed as well so we still show our emotions. While we were in the WT I'm sure most of us if not all of us have felt or know people who have felt angry, sad, resentful, all the thing you described, the only difference is that when we were in we had to hide these feeling/emotions. We had to hide them so as not to be attacked by those loving, caring sheppards who put us in that position in the first place. now that we are out we can let it out.
It's like when you first start "studying" you are learning thing new to you and they even tell you you will want to tell everyone you know. They give a scripture about a spring bubbling fourth everything you are being taught. Well that is where we are at, although at different stages, we are wanting to tell everyone we know about the real WT, as well as all the harm they cause.

A Guest I totall agree with your breakdown of the article, I noticed most of those points myself as I was reading it. However in sticking with the threads question this is not a religious matter at all. it is a legal one, and religion should not even be mentioned. Yes hindus are nor permitted to kill needlessly, actually most religions have thatidea they just differ in how the interpit needless, but they were not forced to kill tree, the city did that.
Yes Christians have killed and distroyed in the name of their beliefs, as do/did most other religions. That does not make it right, plus most of that occoured centurise ago. The world is changing and conquest is not as popular as it once was, so trying to do so should be harder to do, we will see.
