I have direct information that Jonathan Holt was not reproved. He stepped down from being an MS after his "episode" last year. He had not attended meetings the past few months and his wife was getting ready to seperate from him. This info comes from someone in the same cong. who will not be identified. They read letters in all the congs telling ones to not be interviewed by media and refer all questions to the family spokesman. The branch sent out 2 brothers to do comfort the cong (do damage control) and the District Overseer conducted the Memorial Service on Saturday. All this is from reliable source.

No more 3-day DCs starting in 2013?
by respectful_observer inapologies if there is another recent thread on this, but i have heard from 4 different people in 3 different geographic areas (including someone who does advance work for the dcs), that beginning in 2013 the three day dc program will be replaced by a second two-day circuit assembly.
some people were passing the info along like a secret, others seemed to think that everyone already knew.. if everyone in j-dub land is already talking about this, how is it not all over this forum??.
anyway, can anyone confirm or deny?.

Lt's get this correct - There is presently 1 Circuit Assembly (2 day) and 1 Special Assembly Day (1 day) each service year. In addition there is presently a District Convention that is 3 days and in limited areas occasionally a 4 day (International Convention - with special invite needed). This is what will happen in the future (in my opinion). Circuit Assembly will be shortened to 1 day. Special Assembly Day will remain a 1 day event. The District Convention will be 2 days. The invitation work for the Distict Convention will stop. All assembly halls will be used and where none is available, rented faucilities will be used. A massive program of enlarging assembly halls (where they can be done), and building regional assembly halls will be untaken. Already there is a push with the Regional Building Committees and volunteer workers to get ready. There is an on-line workers database and they want you to keep your passport updated, photo updated, skills and other info. updated.
Starting service year 2013 - 2 day District Conventions. We all saw this coming. This year at the Convention we had streamlined talks (almost manuscripts now) with the introductions picked out, illustrations picked out, exact interviews, etc. No extra off-the-cuff comments from Bethel speakers, COs or DOs is being allowed. If you don't comply, no more parts or you are moved to the South or backwoods.
Tighten the grips, limit the amount of rouge comments and homogenize & sanitize the info for an exact McWitness experience.
By the way, I endured many of the old 8 day open air experiences dating back to 50s in NYC.
I have seen it all.

I know - it was put out as a challenge and thought for many of the older ones entering their final years to consider. There is real resentment and bitterness from the group that pushed the theories of never having to die, not raising children, staying single, not re-marrying and giving your estate to WTBTS. With sale of Brooklyn bldgs, downsizing of mags, no subs, credit / debit card machines and other things - a fear of what's next?

Special talk earthquakes increasing really?
by tootired2care ini had to sit though the the special talk yesterday "is it later than you think", the brother a good deal of time making the case that major earthquakes are on the rise, and how i should believe it is "later than i think" based on that fact.
i took a bit of time to research this today, and sure enough they are not.
the link below has a chart of major earthquakes since the mid nineties, and it clearly shows they are random and all over the place.

They are very careful on the earthquake statement. In fact doing research on the subject reveals the quotations in the reasoning book to be disputed very much from the official sources.
Many other religions are using the signs of Jesus to prove the end times. Check out the web and you will see interesting comments and research.
It was most interesting that the talk failed to mention anything about the "Generation teaching". I think after the circuit assembly part & demo on Sunday AM it is now officially put to rest and hopefully forgotten by the masses.

Were Elders told to mention the Faithful Slave / Governing Body / Organization more?
by pirata inas of 5 years ago in my congregation, the "faithful slave" was rarely mentioned in talks, prayers, etc.
usually it was all about jehovah, and jesus got his token phrase at the end of a prayer with "in jesus name, amen".. now, in the past couple years i've noticed, especially since the elders have gone to the elders school, almost everytime an elder prays, and in many of the talks, there is mention of the faithful slave, organization, or governing body.
"thank you jehovah for giving us your organization, which provides us food at the proper time", "how thankful we are that the faithful slave provides..", etc.. for any elders who went to the elders school, did they specifically say to build more appreciation in the organization, faithful slave, etc.

COs and DOs are pushing in their comments, suggestions, prayers and other ways that FDS is Mother and needs are unified support. If not, then we are going against the arrangement and will be judged adversely. They know where the bread & butter are coming from and want everyone else to jump on board. The company tagline in pushed along. If they dont push it, they are viewed as non-company, get counseled by uppers and get the boot.
the new tagline is "Obey them", "They know what is best", "We can not think for ourselves, since they do all of it for us, we trust them, Jesus has entrusted them and if we don't we will be following Satan".
Fear of thinking for oneself is at an all time high.
the new District Convention theme highlights that - "Safeguard Your Heart" - in other words "Don't Trust Yourself, your Heart or your Mind".

Here is what I heard - "People aren't reading print anymore, look at the failure of newspapers and print magazines", "Paper costs are sky-high in many parts of the world", "Shipping / handling costs are so high", "Everthing is on-line, speed of delivery, special on-line articles and features", "the times they are a changing".
My take - "no-one hardly reads or appreciates the stuff anymore", "it takes up to 2 years for an article to be thought out, written and then published / delivered". "With on-line many more langs and faster from thought to print will happen"
What will happen (or should happen) within the next few years - discontinue wt / awake for the public. No need for it. Introduce a new 16 page monthly public print magazine called "The Truth". Guaranteed more readership, appeal and freshness. Get rid of watching the world, from our readers, bible changes lives, kids corner, etc. Go for free distribution via on-line subscription with the on-line additions. If you want the printed mag go back to mailed delivery. Old-timers still resent when subscriptions were taken away.
The new 16 pg mags will turn into comic book type rags with an almost laughable content and appeal. If they were smart, they would do random survey from readers via on-line satisfaction comments.
A discussion board and on-line Q&A section needs to be at jw.org
Having a suggestions section and how are we doing section. A complaint section to turn in rouge CO / DO and nut case elders.
A rewards section with redemption center for users with most hits / comments with great prizes like a vintage cross & crown pin or a Rutherford 78 record!
Yes, go mainstream and look normal (appealing) to others. Isn't this what Jesus did - be all things to everyone and "Let them come to me".

by keyser soze inpersonally, i never went to the elders with anything(not voluntarily, anyway).
but a friend of mine once asked a couple of elders whether it would be acceptable for him and his wife to make a sex tape, for their own personal viewing.
