  My JW mom is coming to visit this Friday!!

  my parents are recent converts to jw (both baptized).

  i was never a jw, but did study with them for a long time.

  after doing research, my husband and i quit going to meetings and stopped the bs.

  Faithful Witness - We talked a little bit about this, and I did pose the question, "So, do you think the GB speaks for God?" She did not even take a breath before saying, "Yes. I do." Scary. Oops. i found the switch to her cult persona, but we quickly got back to normal dinner conversation and visiting with the kids.

  Hi Faithful Witness, You are doing great recognizing how to turn off and off your mother's cult persona. I'm glad that you, your family, and your Mom had a great time together. I hope that you have many more.

  When your relationship is more secure and after your Mom starts asking you more questions, you should ask that same question again, but then ask her where it is written in the Bible. At one time didn't the Pharisees and Sadducees represent God on earth and spoke for God to Jews, but than Jesus Christ came. Why would God want an organization of imperfect men to represent him when he has the Holy Spirit to communicate directly with people?

  i am gonna take a snapshot of the # of friends on fb and the ones i have after i tell people privately that i don't want to be a jw anymore..

  Hi EdenOne, I'm glad that you emerged relatively unscathed.

  I hope that you continue with the family worship night by reading the Bible with your family to help them detect the BITE control techniques that the Pharisees and Sadducees used to victimize Jews and how Jesus Christ felt about it. Let you family critically think for themselves to connect the dots.

  It is sad that elders are more enthusiastic about feretting out critically thinking JWs, instead of paedophiles who molest children.

  i know this has been rehashed, time and again, but i saw this interesting blip on jw.org last night, and did a little thinking about it.... jw.

  org answers the important question that so many have... are jehovah's witnesses a cult?.

  jehovah's witnesses do not look to any human as their leader.

  Hi Faithful Witness, My problem with using the WTBTS's definitions of cult is that it is the WTBTS's definition and not defined by independent cult experts. Since the WTBTS does not believe in higher education, believes in studying WTBTS propagand more than the Bible, and prints/distributes propaganda as well as holds several weekly indoctination sessions for JWs, when/how did the leaders/writers of the WTBTS become "Trusted" experts to defining what constitutes a cult? They belong to a dangerous cult!!

  From my point of view the WTBTS uses "Theologic Warfare Strategy" (i.e., deceit and/or obsfucation) to refute its own definitions, such as writing "Some think of a cult as being a dangerous religious sect with a human leader.". Who are the some who think of a cult as being a dangerous religious sect with only one human leader? WTBTS writers/leaders are who. Why can't the GB be viewed as a single leader at the top of a hierarchical organization since only the GB can elect/remove members to/from it instead of being elected/removed by all JWs through elections? Also, the WTBTS's definition does not even define what makes a sect dangerous.

  IMHO an organization/sect is dangerous whenever it uses BITE control techniques to victimize its members to follow its leaders, or when it takes actions to protect the organization's image to the deteriment of its members' basic human rights and welfare.

  The Memorial campaign: What question from a householder would have made you think?

  i know that soon, the jws in our area will be out in full force, on their hit and run campaign with invitations to the memorial.

  did you ever encounter a householder during this campaign, that made you stop and think about what you were doing?

  Hi Faithful Witness, This year I'm prepared for JWs at my door. I already have Girl Scout short-bread cookies for them.

  What I do will depend on whether a Bible Student is doing the presentation, if JWs seem to be "Spiritually Strong" (non-thinking) JWs, or too frail and old to lose their JW conditional friends/family. My objectives are to prevent them from placing all their propaganda, and may be to write www.jwfacts.com or www.freedomofmind.com on their propaganda and give it back to them. If they are older than 80 (or look near death), I plan to invite them in for a cup of tea and Girl Scout cookies and listen to their stories. If they are younger than 80 (or look healthy), I will either invite them in for a cup of tea and/or just ask them at the door if I can give them something in return for the propaganda that they want to give me.

  I do not plan to debate with them, but I may share Mt 22:34-40 with them if they ask to share a scripture with me and ask them how they are following God's two greatist commandments.

  Faithful Witness - I have no agenda for her visit this week, except to have a good time and visit with my real mom. This whole JW experience has really put a spotlight on some personality issues that she has, but I've got plenty of real life things we can talk about. If she wants to bring up her concerns about anything from the JW's, I'm willing to listen. :)

  Hi Faithful Witness, Enjoy your time with your Mom's authentic persona and help her authentic persona to reconnect with her grandchildren and you. Learn how to avoid saying things that bring out her cult persona.

  If your Mom asks you questions about the WTBTS, first ask her questions to learn what her authentic persona's feelings are, ask her what independent research she has done to satisfy her concerns/thoughts, and lastly use jgnat's advice to first ask permission from a JW to express your opinion to them. When asking more sensitive questions about the WTBTS's doctrines, remember how Billy the Ex-Bethelite asks questions in the thread exJW Psychology 102--How to Ask a Question When Questions Aren't Allowed.

  Hi ILoveTTATT, Go out and make unconditional non-JW friends, love, and enjoy life. Just update you FB page with what you are doing to maintain contact with all your JW friends and family. Your living a successfuly and fun life may cause doubts in others.

  I would not be suprised if your mother softens in a few years, especially if you get married and start having grand-children.

  i have not been a sister for the past 19 years, i asked to be da'd as i had started smoking aged 12 and at 19 no longer wanted people to think badly of the jw's over my conduct.. for 19 years my father, an elder, has tried his damndest to bring me back.

  he kept contact sometimes more, sometimes less, always under the threat to stop the contact alltogether.

  at one point he managed to not speak to me for several months.

  Welcome DullBookworm, Send your SIL an email/letter with links to www.jwfacts.com, www.freedomofmind.com, and www.jehovahs-witness.net ASAP and ask her to contact you before talking with your brother and father about the links. If you both collaborate with each other, you may be able to help your brother and father to critically think for themselves. By showing your father and brother unconditional love, being patient, and venting your frustrations on JWN, you may be able to overcome the WTBTS's BITE control that victimizes your father and brother.

  The following video from Steve Hassan's website may help your SIL and you to understand how important it is to understand how the WTBTS is a dangerous cult: Strategic Interactive Approach explained 2003 (1:23:23).

  I want to send a nice note to my sister

  it's been about 5 weeks, since my sister sent me the email telling me she no longer wants to communicate with me (at this time).. i was never a jw, so i am not going to agree to those crazy terms.

  i explained to her that she can do what she wants, but i will continue to be kind, and that i forgive her cruel treatment toward me.. i have given her some space, and i feel like i am ready to send her another note.

  instead of bringing up any hard feelings of today, i was going to share some memories that i have of our early, pre-jw days.

  Hi Faithful Witness, Live your life without regrets and unreasonable fear. Do not give up on your sister's authentic persona, but do take into account how your BIL influences your sister. From you previous posts, I would not be surprised if he is a very controlling type person. How are you progressing with your parents?

  Hi ILoveTTATT, Give your parents some time. Just show them unconditional love like Steve Hassan emphases.

  In the mean time I hope that you enjoy your life free from the WTBTS and spend some time translating more webpages for www.jwfacts.com to Spanish.
