At what point in embryonic development does the soul develop?

i was reading about some amazing developments in our understanding and manipulation of pluripotent stem cells, for those interested i will post the link below.. whilst i was reading it a question came to me - do believers think that these cells contain a "soul"?

when does the soul enter the the biological entity?

is it at the time of gamete production?

Doesn't a soul need a brain? According to the Mayo Clinic, the brain, spinal cord, and heart start forming in week 5.

Here we go again. The next hate letter from our 2nd Son.

yes it happen again with our youngest son.

this last monday we got a letter from him telling us how unloving we are because we are no longer jw.

cult and not had kids.

Still Totally ADD - I really feel sick about all but this time I will not take this lying down. I will write him back and let him know it is them not us who is unloving. It is them who will not let us see our grand kids not us and we will give them the reasons why we know the Wt. is a cult and unlike them our house will always be open to them and our grand kids. I know some of you may feel I should not do this but both letters from our oldest over 2 years ago and our youngest has so much disrepect and hateful things I just can't let them get away with it.

Hi Still Totally ADD, I agree that you should confront your sons, but be careful how you word your letter. How do you feel your sons would respond to the following:

Your mother and I love you and your brother unconditionally. We will love you whether you remain a JW, or decide to critically think for yourself. Why can't you love your mother and I unconditionally, since nothing will ever convince your mother and I to return to the Watchtower. Wouldn't it be better for our family to love each other unconditionally and more than any organization?

If you want to know why your mother and I will never return to the Watchtower, please call us. It is your choice whether to shun us and not to behave as family.

How would you respond to this defense made on behalf of The Watchtower's Child Abuse lawsuits?

details of the society's child abuse policies have been published in jehovah's witnesses' publications, although more specific guidelines are only made available to elders, or on request.

press releases issued by the watch tower society's office of public information confirm that if a person accused of molestation repeatedly denies the charges of his victim, and there is no other witness to the incident, "the elders cannot take action within the congregation at that time", but would report to authorities if required by local laws.

Child sexual abuse is a crime. I agree with what others have written about file reports with local law enforcement, who have better resources to investigate crime. Is the Watchtower a religion or the police?

Why doesn't the Watchtower just tell JWs to report all crimes to the local law enforcement? Answer: the Watchtower cares more about protecting its image than its members.

Ongoing frustration with wife

i've tried taking the slow, patient approach with my wife.

i believe i first posted here about 13 months ago about my wife.. we've always had good communication and could talk endlessly about philosophy, neuroscience, sociology and then when i learned the ttatt, i clammed up a bit about spiritual things.

i'd always been fairly liberal, suggesting other alternative ideas, but then i told my wife about the un/ngo scandal (i ran across the guardian story doing a talk as an ms, lol!

Hi Flipping El, Can you afford marriage counseling with your wife? If you can and she will, then ask the counselor how you both can make your marriage more loving and fulfilling. It is important to show your wife that you love her whether she is a JW or not.

If your wife will not go to counseling with you, then her cult or authentic persona may be a controlling and manipulative in which case talk with a councelor about your feelings and how to avoid being manipulated. Non-JWs can also be controlling and manipulative. Life is too short to live with a controlling and manipulative person.

new neighbors

so, my wife and i purchased a house about a month ago and recently we met our new neighbors.

they are an older couple.

they are very nice and even brought us cookies.. in conversation they brought up that they were mormons and mentioned how much they loved it.

Hi Theredeemer, I have known Mormons, who are very nice. If they want to talk about religion, tell them how you feel and why.

The best way a Morman can learn that they are in a dangerous cult is for an ex-JW to explain that the WTBTS is a dangerous cult and what are the characteristics of dangerous cults. Let the Mormans draw their own conclusions.

Hi Smart, Anything you do or say that expresses doubts will put you on the CO's and elder's radar. If you have JW family and friends, who you would like to possibly talk to in the future, fade quietly. When JWs ask why you are not attending meetings, just say that you are waiting on Jehovah for guidance and doing Bible research.

If you want to go out with a bigger bang, I would recommend reading Billy the Ex-Bethelite's thread exJW Psychology 102--How to Ask a Question When Questions Aren't Allowed .

Ever since I learned TTATT, I stopped contacting a sister who I wanted to date

i was head over heels for this girl, but when i realized i was in a self destructive cult i realized tieing the knot with her would screw up my future.

this makes me think of the highschool sweethearts i turned down that were worldly.

now she gives me dirty looks whenever our eyes meet a the hall or at gatherings.

Don't worry about the glaring sister. As long as she doesn't want to critically think for herself, she will be happier with an MS or elder.

Trolley Witnessing with Laika from JWN

a while ago laika came to visit.

we went to town and low and behold the jw trolleys were there doing their thing.. we approached the brother and i introduced laika, the brother was polite.

i then went on to tell him that it was too difficult for me to return and be reinstated.
