if you are an american citizen, please visit http://wh.gov/tfk and sign the "protect millions of americans from dangerous orgs: modify usc title 26 501 tax exemption requirements" petition that i created on june 1, 2012 on the white house website.
i assume that only americans can sign this petition, but i do not know.
it takes about 2 minutes to register and sign the petition.
Thanks a million to the 29 people, who have signed the White House petition at http://wh.gov/tFK as of this afternoon.
Today, I wrote again to the National Organization of Women website, www.now.org to hopefully inspire them to send an email blast to its 500,000 members. For 500,000 potential signatures it was worth the time to send them an emal. At the suggestion of talesinI also wrote to Gloria Steinem and Michele Kort, Senior Editor of Ms Magazine. The email to Gloria Steinem is shown in the quote box below.
Does anyone else have suggestions of influencial people to write messages to? Will any women who support the White House petition write to NOW, Ms Magazine, and/or Gloria Steinem? Will any women who want to educate non-JWs about the dangers of dangerous orgs like the WTBTS write to NOW, Ms Magazine, and/or Gloria Steinem?
Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,
Robert
Email to Gloria Steinem - Dear Gloria Steinem, Do you believe that women (and men) have basic rights of freedom of religious belief and speech and wants to help victims of dangerous orgs? If you do, please send an emails to other interested people and organizations, who you know, about visiting the White House petition “Protect Millions of Americans from Dangerous Orgs” at wh.gov/tFK before June 22, 2012; “Like” the White House petition link above and the following Facebook link, and/or write letters to the President, U.S. senators, and U.S. representative. If you would like to learn more about this petition and reasons for signing it, please visit the Facebook page “Protecting Americans from Dangerous Orgs” at on.fb.me/wh-petition . In the dangerous org that I am most familiar with about 600,000 American women are taught to be subservient to men, and about 4.2 million women throughout the World . A law inspired by t h e White House petition would allow victims of dangerous orgs to file complaints with the IRS, so that the IRS can suspend tax exemptions for an organization to encourage dangerous orgs to change their onerous policies that victimize members. The following two news articles highlight two policies that victims of a dangerous org are currently unable to influence their leaders to change without being further victimized through shunning by other members.. The NY Times printed the following June 17, 2012 Associate Press article about Candace Conti winning the largest child molestation civil settlement to date against the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society of New York: www.nytimes.com/2012/06/18/us/28-million-awarded-in-jehovahs-witnesses-abuse-case.html?_r=2 . Ms. Conti won the settlement because the Watchtower Society pressured congregation elders to not inform other members about a known pedophile in the congregation. The Watchtower policy of secrecy is more onerous because the Watchtower Society promotes that members must shun members who bring reproach on the organization and that members are safer to be with Jehovah's Witnesses than "Worldly" people (i.e.., non-Jehovah's Witnesses). The Watchtower Society seems to prefer to ignore that most behavioral scientist agree that pedophiles cannot be cured and children should be protected from pedophiles. News.com.au wrote the following June 1, 2012 article about a 4-year old girl whose life was saved by a Judge ordering doctors to give her a blood transfusion over her parent's objections: www.news.com.au/national/judge-forces-jehovahs-witness-parents-to-allow-transfusions-for-daughter-with-cancer/story-e6frfkvr-1226380955006. What is not mentioned in the article is that the child's parents are being victimized by the Watchtower Society. If the parents asked doctors to give their child blood transfusions to save their child's life, the parents would be shunned by other Jehovah's Witnesses for not following the Watchtower Society's doctrines. Sincerely,
Robert

this petition is to actively encourage congress to revise usc title 26 501 (and possibly 170) so that all tax exempt organizations must promote freedom of religion and speech to its members and employees.. .
congress should authorize the irs to promulgate regulations; investigate members, employees, and former members complaints; and enforce legislation.
an organizations tax exempt status should be suspended for not less than 3 years that does not promote freedom of religion and speech to its members and employees and instead intimidates or coerces them.. .
Just bumping this thread.
Lore - I don't see how this is more unconstitutional. At the moment we are giving religious organizations a financial advantage based SOLEY on the fact that they are religious. There is no constitutional justification for that.
Hi Lore, How did you form your opinion that a law inspired by the White House petition would not be unconstitutional? Did you read any of the Supreme Court cases cited in this thread to form your opinion? If you did read the cases, do you feel that BOB JONES UNIVERSITY, GOLDSBORO CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS, INC. v. UNITED STATES. 461 U.S. 574 (1983) is more applicable to a law inspired by the White House petition, or is HEIN, DIRECTOR, WHITE HOUSE OFFICE OF FAITH-BASED AND COMMUNITY INITIATIVES, et al. v. FREEDOM FROM RELIGION FOUNDATION, INC., et al (2007), RACHEL AGOSTINI, et al., PETITIONERS 96-552 v. BETTY LOUISE FELTON et al. CHANCELLOR, BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK, et al., LEMON v. KURTZMAN, 403 U.S. 602 (1971), or BOWEN v. KENDRICK, 487 U.S. 589 (1988) more applicable?

Band on the Run - Ive stated before that your zeal is commendable. If it were harnessed to something doable, it would be awesome. Not every idea can be accomplished. I thought your letter to the NYT reporter was a good one. I beleive her editor or the ombudsman should also receive letters. It would be good to find out why no comments can be left at New York Times.com.I am hoping that the Times will redo the article. Cobbing togehter press releases is not good reporting.
Hi Band on the Run, Although we disagree about the constitutionality of a law inspired by the White House petition, I do agree with your opinion that news organizations have a tendency to piece together press releases more than do investigative reporting. I also agree with you about educating news organizations about dangerous orgs, such as the Watchtower, as long as the educational effort supports some more-permanent, longer-term solution.
My preferred more-permanent, longer-term solution is to promote changing USC Title 26 §501 and possibly §170 to avoid most Constitutional Free Excercise Clauses prohibitions. Changes to laws that enable civil lawsuits to be filed are ok, but lawsuits are expensive and burden an already overburden legal system. I prefer administrative investigations/hearings more than lawsuits for cost and time considerations with the appellate court system acting as a check and balance for the administrative process .

Band on the Run - YOu are seeing conspiracies when others merely are trying, unscucessfully, to point out that you do not understand basic permises of the Const'n. Nws flash- the Conti case may very well be overtunred on appeal. When the final appellate court carves out a novel legal theory, it is law. When a trial judge does, the judge gets reversed.Every religion is dangeorus and beneficial. Before you consider conspiracy hteories, why not ponder while your intentions may be honorable, you did not posess all the facts. There is no shame in it. If you specialized in this area, you would understand it, too. Rather tan impute bad intentions to posters here, why not conclude that your final goal may be doable by other legal methods.
Hi Band on the Run, Are your comments in the quote box above directed towards me? If they are, w hat conspiracies are you referring to?
By the way I support all balanced and informed efforts to educate and raise the awareness of more people about dangerous orgs and how dangerous orgs operate. I even wished the best to those people who participate in the activity that you suggested in the thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/experiences/227254/1/Writing-an-Op-Ed-Post-for-the-New-York-Times . Since I am busy supporting the White House petition, I have a limited amount of time to donate to supporting other worthwhile causes. I did have enough time today to write a short message to lauire Goodstein, NY Times religious reporter, in the thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/child-abuse/227219/1/16-hours-ago-NYTimes-carried-the-AP-story-about-Candace . What did you think of the message that I sent to Laurie Goodstein?
Although you may not believe that my efforts are well thought-out nor planned, at least I am trying to effect long-lasting, positive, and beneficial change while other people do not.
Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,
Robert
i posted on another thread that the ap report in the nyt was disappinting.
my thought is to write to the ombudsman or at least an editor.
the article was a joke when held against standard nyt reporting.. so many issues are raised that are applicable to all religions and wider societal concerns.
Best of wishes to everyone in raising the awareness of the NY Times and other news organizations about all dangerous organizations in a balanced and informative manner.

I am a living testimony on this claim.
Hi blindnomore, I'm sorry that you were victimized by the WTBTS. Have you considered writing about your experiences without naming names of individuals to the NY Times? First-hand personal experiences by many victims will have more weight than what I wrote.

Hi Barbara, Thanks for the tip about Laurie Goodstein, religious reporter on the NY Times. The more former JWs and JWs, who write to reporters like Laurie Goodstein, about the WTBTS's secret policies and practices: may be more light can be shined on the WTBTS, especially since Candace Conti successfully exposed some of the WTBTS's secret policies and practices.
By clicking on the email link Send an E-Mail to Laurie Goodstein , which is a javascript link, on the http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/g/laurie_goodstein/index.html?inline=nyt-per webpage, I was able to send Laurie Goodstein the email in the quote box below.

Dear Laurie Goodstein,
Although the article in the NY Times, “Jehovah’s Witnesses Told to Pay in Abuse Case” by the Associated Press on June 17, 2012, covered the published facts of the verdict and monetary award to Candace Conti and comments from attorneys, I was disappointed that the NY Times did not do more in depth reporting about the policies of the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society.
Why wasn’t Mr. McCabe, attorney for the Watchtower, asked more questions about the policies of the Watchtower? Mr. McCabe said, “The Jehovah’s Witnesses hate child abuse and believe it’s a plague on humanity.” Since Mr. Simons proved to jurors that the Watchtower hides important information from Jehovah’s Witness, why did reporters take Mr. McCabe’s comments at face value?
I would like Mr. McCabe to answer the following questions to expose more ugly truths about the Watchtower:
• Does the Watchtower promote to Jehovah’s Witnesses to not bring reproach on the Watchtower Organization?
• Does the Watchtower promote that Jehovah’s Witnesses are to shun members and former members as if they are dead if they bring reproach on the Watchtower?
• Would Ms. Conti’s suit against the Watchtower be considered as bringing reproach on the Watchtower?
• If Jehovah’s Witnesses hate child abuse, how can the Watchtower justify promoting shunning of Jehovah’s Witnesses and former Witnesses because of reporting child abuse?
• How does the Watchtower effectively protect children from child molesters?
• If most behavioral scientists agree that child molestation cannot be cured, how come the Watchtower does not implement more effective child protection policies than just requiring that child molesters be repentant?
The Watchtower is a dangerous cult according to Steve Hassan, a cult expert, so it tries to hide its policies and doctrines from public scrutiny. The Watchtower in the past has promoted to Jehovah's Witnesses to use what it called “Theocratic Warfare Strategy” to lie to “Worldly” people, which would include reporters and testimony in courtrooms.
Sincerely,
Robert [last name deleted]
the cats well and truly out of the bag and even the r&f are all going to know about it soon.. .
will they blame her?.
blame satan?.
Since R&F JWs suffer from cognitive disonnance and mind-control, the WTBTS will have no problem spinning the story to the spiritually strong JWs and will be less successful with JWs with doubts. The shun gun that the WTBTS points at the head of every JW is a powerful weapon.
Hopefully, Candace Conti's story will be carried by more news organizations (especially the non-English ones) and will raise potential convert's awareness that the WTBTS is a dangerous org. I wish that all news organizations would also write about how JWs have shunned Candace and will continue to shun her.
Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,
Robert
