Talesin - My LIL's sister-in-law wears Opium. It's her signature fragrance. I never cared for it, but I like her so much that I like Opium now because it makes me think of her.

Deleted's Top Five Poll #1 - What would you get disfellowshipped for today?
by Deleted ini've been reading this site for years and i need more posts (is this a left over dub-thang like counting time?).
so taking a page from ozzie's poll, here's my top five.
1. i got myself doctorates in divinity & metaphysics from the ulc (ulc.org, about $140 - i went for the works) so i could register with the county as a minister to officiate weddings, done 4 so far - i don't charge if you're interested.

Hmmm....to be disfellowshipped and/or disciplined:
1) voting (Canada's federal election is coming up! or is that a "conscience matter" now?)
2) fornicating (*grin*)
3) self-pleasuring (*grin again*..then again, you'd have to confess that in order to be df'd, wouldn't you?? who'd be nuts enough to do that? Is there more culpability if a mechanical device is involved? ;))
4) swearing (I love the F word, in moderation of course. :)
5) investigating atheism
6) reading mine and others' horoscopes and laughing without fear
7) speaking of laughter, laughing at dirty jokes instead of choking on the chuckle
8) hosting the baddest Halloween party around
9) playing D&D
10) smoking the good stuff (just a little) every now and then
11) gambling (I'm very good at blackjack and poker.)
12) associating with *gasp* apostates!
13) getting a decent education and moving up the corporate ladder
14) reading Tarot
15) loving my family and friends by not shunning them despite their life choices
16) donating Blood!!
I'm sure there's more, but that's all the sins I can think of so far.
*edited to add # 16 - donating blood, as that's the one I'm most proud of. :)

Great topic Stephanie!
Usually I smell like Ivory soap. Mostly because I've worked in a scent-free environment for about a year now. Sometimes though, my hair smells like Senscience, if I use their mousse or hairspray. I find I'm a lot more sensitive to fragrance now and I rarely wear it, however...
When I go out in the spring or summer, I like Tommy Girl (the original)...one of my good friends used it first and I've never seen so many men turn their heads and go 'who's wearing that scent?!!' just at a whiff of it. For late fall and winter I love, love, love Samsara by Guerlin...it's aspicy! :)
It's so cool how scent affects our memories! Yerusalim wrote: "I used to be a Drakar man...now I'm boycotting, so it's Old Spice...and the wife likes it...in fact I've had several compliments from several different women on my smell...must be a chemical thing" and I thought Old Spice...yuck! That's a cheap old man scent...but you know what? I remember secretly stealing into the bathroom as a teenager just to smell my older brother's Old Spice deodorant. So yes, there may be something to the chemical thing for women!
Mulan - you wrote: "I wear Estee Lauder "Beautiful". I've used it for about 20 years. I don't mix colognes so all my clothes will smell the same. I heard my daughter in law say one time "You've been hugging grandma, haven't you? You smell just like grandma". That was neat." That is cool Mulan....a signature fragrance. I remember my nana everytime I smell Dove soap. And I remember my best little girlfriend's mom whenever I smell Noxema. Happy memories, happy scents. :)
Oh, and, Eternity for Men is still a killer in my book!

How sad. Sorry for your loss.
I think the whole "it was his time to go" thing is just a coping mechanism some people use. I guess some people find it comforting somehow, but I'm with you. There is never any real comfort at a time like this. We all just try our best to get through these things however we can. Sounds like you have a really good support system at work though. (cyberhug)

Naive
by shera inthis has been something i have been thinking of for awhile.i was so naive when i started to study and i was even naive when i was in for a few yrs.. i suppose i could be calling myself gullible too,but you know, when i was a jw,i had no idea what the "society" was,no idea who was teaching these beliefs.i look back at it and i realize how i just listened to what was thrown at me.people told me it was the "truth",so it had to be the truth.. when i was a child,i went to bible studies and sunday's school, but i never really went to church to "learn"the bible.so basically never had any biblical knowledge, before i began to study.. when i was studing and even when i was a jw,i always felt something wasnot right, and that used to bother me and depress me.never feeling i was good enough for god.i didnot want to get baptized when i did,i felt something was wrong but i went ahead just incase........ kinda ticks me off, that i never learned the background and history of this religion...but of course i wouldnot be here and wouldnot have met many great people as i have and hope to meet more!.
it wasn't until,i started to search and started to read the bible on my own, that i realized how wrong this religion is.it was like "wow"........with some anger mixed in there too with the "wows".
now i believe, the bible is not 100% authentic, but there is a loving god and i believe in jesus and he died for all people!

awww...Shera...you are an example, imo...the type that we need to learn from most. You have always struck me as an honest, sweet, real person and I've always, always wanted to know what would make someone want to join this religion in the first place. (I was raised in it from birth, as you know.) I'm so looking forward to meeting you in person! I hope that I'll see you at the bbq that Special K is hosting later this summer.
And I've gotta say, if that is really you in your avatar...hoo mama! You are one smokin' chickie! :)

Be a Man!
by Nosferatu ini figured i'd post this on here (i wish i could take credit for it, but it was written by a guy who goes by the name "pook".
it's one of the things i read that helped me on my way to being successful as a single ex-jw.
even though society teaches men to repress their sexuality, jws do it worse.

uggh
Much of that sounds like it came from a 1950s Watchtower - in particular the part likening women to cows. Where have we heard that before?
"Several women were bunched up in a group, gossiping and yapping about cute boys, fashion, relationships i.e. nothing. This behavior extends to all women of all cultures (and also different animal species. Cows group together and moo and gnaw on grass and take notice of bulls brave enough to approach the group)."
And then there is this wonderful little segment:
"This is crucial because one day you will become the leader of your own household. Yes, we talk of 50/50, of everything being equal, but Nature's laws surpass that of Humans. Women naturally submit and nurture, Men naturally lead and provide."
Are you sure you read this after leaving the borg?

According to my calculations, using today's exchange rate, (and my newfound knowledge of the difference between an Imperial and an American gallon!), the gas prices we pay here in Nova Scotia are equivalent to $2.56 per US gallon.
Math aficionados - feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. :)
Talespin - that sounds like an awesome idea!
