I too thought it was interesting, but too dogmatic in its approach. No positive proof, just theories. Which is okay, just don't act like "this is the way it had to have happened because we can't think of any other way it could have happened." That's just another religeon to me.

I'm new here..... Studying with the Witnesses
by PenelopePaige inhi- i just wanted to say that i have been checking the website out for a few weeks and have read some horror stories and some sad ones.
but i have been studying with witnessess for about six months and can't help but feel that they're completely sincere and maybe even, the true religion.
i love the watchtower and awake and to me, none of that seems crazy.

"I love the Watchtower and Awake and to me, none of that seems crazy. "
These are editions that are printed to appeal to those who are not witnesses. They are purposely written to not raise any warning flags. The witnesses stduy a different edition of the Watchtower at the Sunday meetings that they don't offer to the public. Ask your bible study conductor to let you have those too!

The effect we are having on the Watchtower is HUGE
by jwfacts ini was inspired by a recent thread i know i aint gunna crumble the wt, but a girl can dream to look at the effect we as individuals are having on the watchtower society.. 3dogs1husband quoted a story to show that even helping only one person is worth it.. it is encouraging to note that the one person you may have helped has lead to millions being helped, due to the power of compounding growth.. compounding growth is well illustrated by the rice on a chessboard problem.
if you start with 1 grain of rice on square one, and double it to 2 on the second, 4 on the third, 8 on the fourth, by the last (64th) square there would be 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 grains of rice.. likewise, if you help one person out of the grip of the watchtower this year, then next year you help one more and they help one, in a few years that is going to have a formidable result on the number of jehovahs witnesses.
look at the following statistics.

One of the biggest facts that got me thinking many years ago is the difference in how many become witnesses each year compared to how many people are born in the world each year. It seems that there are approximately (very roughty) 200,000 people added to the WTS each year, give or take. That's about how many people are born each DAY on the planet, give or take. Yes , the percentages may show an increase for the witnesses, but look at raw numbers.
According to http://www.worldometers.info/, I figure there are about 74,000,000 more people each year on the planet. If the witnesses convert say 250,000 people each year, then that is 73,750,000 more people Jehovah has to destroy each year that armageddon comes.
I was always taught that if Jehovah had brought the end in 1914, 1975, etc. (take your pick), then look at how many witnesses would not have been gathered. I say look how many more people have to die for every day the world goes on.

Making a fetish out of bible inerrancy
by Terry inthe catholic church dominated christianity for a thousand and a half years without any successful christian competitor.. challenges came and went, but, the central authority won out.. catholic power stemmed from a simple idea: peter was bestowed by jesus and installed as the first leader or pope.. peter, then, passed his authority down successively; one pope followed another.. the central authority of catholicism was magisterium.. if you don't know what magisterium means you might want to look hard at the definition:.
the divinely appointed authority in the catholic church consisting of the pope and bishops whose purpose is to teach and establish the true faith without error.
the magisterium alone, according to catholicism, has the right to interpret the word of god.. www.carm.org/catholic-terminology.

Follow the Christ - Wasn't that the theme of a recent JW convention or assembly?

Protestantism faced off with the Catholic Church and claimed for itself a SUPERIOR authority: the bible's inerrant guidance
Wouldn't that be the bible that was canonized by the Catholic church? The Protestants didn't start off with a whole new book or testament (think Mormon), so they really started off with a false premise. Even if they had original manuscripts for the bible itself (which we know they didn't), the chosen books were selected by the same people they were arguing against.

Does the Christian message fall apart without a literal interpretation of Genesis?
by nicolaou in.
what's the point of jesus if adam & eve did not 'fall' and condemn us all to sin?.

"I used to wonder the same thing as a jw. I was told to pray for forgivness of sin, on a daily basis."
Additionally, I wondered why I still needed to pray for forgivness if Jesus already died for my sins a couple thousand years before I got here.
