Is the Internet killing our sense of EMPATHY?
by brotherdan inthis is a pretty interesting article on cnn.
i can see how we are being desensitized to others feelings.
there are things that i've said to others online that i never would say to someone face to face.

Toxic Relationships
by serenitynow! ini have had it with my mother.
i've spoken on the board before about her.
she is fanatically religious, often keeps me on the phone for hours while she talks endlessly about the bible.

I am so sorry, that sounds awful. I don't know what is worse, having a parent not talk to you, or having to endure hideous conversations that are so draining you just want to cry afterwards.
I hope your mom can think about this and change. The ups and downs of life sure are challenging to say the least and I hope you enjoy this beautiful day and can get some happiness out of it.

Did you do very early morning field service?
by truthseeker inin my old congregation, there was a group of dubs who started field service at 4am - yes, that's 4 o'clock in the morning.
i went with them on a few occasions.. to be ready, you'd have to be up at least 3:30am to get washed and dressed and maybe get a bite to eat.. at 4am, our designated driver would show up along with a couple of sleepy eyed jws trying to "get their time in.
" many times we'd go pick up a jw only to find they forgot about service and overslept.. .

Yes, total waste of time! It is the unsaid elephant in the car...how to drive around more, so you have to get out less!
I have seen JW's witnessing at bus stops before and thought to myself, turn around and warn the unsuspecting "householder!!"

What are your late night cravings?
by highdose incurrently mine are: peking duck pancakes, a sexy danish guy ( love those danes) and sleep.
yes thats right, have spent 4 nights without sleep,... the old withdrawal symtoms still banging on don't ya know!.
am currently at the point where smashing plates seems like a very refreshing and appropriate activity.

For those that are and have been married, did the JW lifestyle aggravate "typical" marital and family problems?
by miseryloveselders ini ask this in consideration of last week's and this week's congregation bible study which focuses on the responsibilities of christian parents, and husbands.
i also ask this in harmony with itscrap&theyknowit's thread which is a heluva opening post by the way.
i linked it below for those that aren't familiar with it.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/206133/1/why-i-eventually-left.

Yes, you nailed it. It just adds to the burden of taking care of a family. Sometimes I would get so frustrated I would tell my ex husband to just leave without me and the kids and I would drive myself. The strain in a marriage with the rules from the organization also adds to it. But it was sometimes convenient because I could throw stuff back in my husbands face, and once in a while, that felt kind of good.

I rarely see the mags around town. They do leave them in my BF waiting room. He knows all about the JW's so he reads them and tells me about it and we have a good laugh. He has some patients that are JW, so he is pretty respectful and very tolerant of everyone bless his heart. But he has gotten an awakening since meeting me. I told him to save them up so we can have a family study together rotflol.

On Jerkhovas Witlesses, Kingdumb Hells, Filthful & Discreet Slavebugger and Pio-sneering . .
by nicolaou ini detest this type of posting.
it's only my opinion of course and so long as forum rules aren't breached we're all free to express ourselves as we see fit.
doesn't mean i have to like it though.. honestly, can't you make your point without this kind of infantile name calling?

I think you take the risk of being offended by logging on, period.
People are all different and have varied ways of expressing themselves.
It is best to be as nice as you can, but to each his own!

Do they really attract the same amount of converts? That is surprising to me. Really, converts??? Or just kids whose parents encourage them to get baptised at 10 years old?

A Lurker taking a step out of the shadows
by AlmightyDog ini have been lurking on this site and others for a couple of years now, and i feel it is time to step out and say "hello!
" when i first began investigating my beliefs, it was innocent enough.
i had been reading an article on scientology, thinking; "wow, these people are just plain nuts!!!

Hello and Welcome. My heart goes out to you. I don't have any good advice, you have gotten a ton of that already. The only thing I can say is be a super fabulous husband. Don't do anything she can harp on and attribute your doubts to that. Hard I know, no one is perfect.
The rest is going to be patience and becoming an expert planter of seeds, but the right kind. What about getting her to think about the flood, read that story to your kids maybe and ask some questions about that. There are some great threads on this board about the flood.
