Mother In-Law expressed DOUBTS ABOUT THE BORG!!!

on saturday i was watching tv and my mother-in law was hanging out at the house and asked me if i'd come in the office and talk to her for a second.

i thought, "great...she's heard that i don't believe in the wt anymore..." so i went back and asked her what was up.

she said, "i'm having a tough time and really doubting things in the organization.

That is pretty interesting. I bet your MIL felt guilty because of your wife's response. That is too bad. She obviously wants to feel secure in her beliefs. I am curious if your wife is such a die hard, and I mean that with all due respect, as I realize you love her very much and this is an issue more than likely----why was your DF'd MIL at your house? That is a big no-no to be associating with the likes of her status to the JW's.

Did you get to finish your conversation? Did that upset you that your wife was listening at the door?

I went to school and had worked with Mormon's in the past, so I was intruigued. I ran out and got her book and finished it in a couple of days. I passed it on to others in my congregation, only to be warned that it could give me doubts.....REALLY?

Well they were right. It was the book that innocently got my attention, and then I was able to draw so many parallels that I couldn't shake that feeling that this was not right for more reasons than I had before.

I see she has a new book called Triumph. I just ordered Escape and Triumph on Half.com because my copy of Escape somehow disappeared a couple of years ago. Oh and I bought Eat, Pray, Love too just for kicks and giggles, I heard it was good.

Did any of you have any good read books that made you start thinking? Or any of you read up on Carolyn Jessop or other fundamental Mormon's?

Was it ever in your heart?

i don't think it ever was in my heart, that is why i have found it relatively easy to leave and not be scared of the fear belief system.

i feel kind of bad for people here who were so immersed that they still get these weird twinges of armageddon fears, etc.

that has to be difficult to still have that looming feeling.

MMXIV, I also tend to be a people pleaser. I think that is why I stayed in until I could bear living in the lie no longer. I think most JW's are people pleasers as that is how we were raised to be!

i was just considering what really made me question the witnesses enough to investigate them and search other sources for information.. they often say stuff about "waiting on jehovah" or "wait for the brothers".

i got concerned because the witnesses were getting between my brain and my mouth.

that was way too close for comfort without a good reason why.

I think the literature is written as they are programmed to think. It is a survival mechanism designed to thwart anyone from leaving, and maintaining loyalty to the organization. (Just like any similar group).

It is far more pallatable for one to feel a sense of moral superiority to adopt the thinking that "I will be humble and wait, for that is the best way, blah blah." Rather than be "rebellious" and investigate and think independently which they have been chided to abhor.

Clinging to the beliefs from the FDS, and the WT is a way for emotionally weak people to not have to think, to not have to make hard decisions. The way you are supposed to believe and live is already defined for you. How freaking convenient. And it is the truth, and right, by golly this is freaking fabulous! It alleviates any insecurities.

I used to think to myself when I was a little girl, that I was so lucky, I mean how could I be so lucky to be born into the right religion and all of these other people are going to die, or learn the hard way. I knew why things were the way they were. It was the golden ticket.

I know better now. :)

Like we'll ever settle this once and for all, but here goes; ARE YOU A TRUE CHRISTIAN?

the watchtower says; "there is an enormous distinction between true christianity and the religion practiced by those who are christians in name only" - wt 1st october 2009. now, in the light of all the current controversy over the word 'atheist' and what it means can you see how irritating it is to have your frame of reference, be it a religious belief system or something else, redefined by others?

and usually it is redefined by those who have something to gain by the linguistic manipulation.. for the watchtower the gain is easy to see but what about the attempt by many believers to define atheism as a belief system?

could it be that equating rational atheism with belief is nothing more than an attempt to legitimize faith?.

Nope, because I am imperfect. What I am is a nice person, and I try to be kind to others. To claim that I am a true Christian is a bit arrogant. Who can make that call? I believe in a God, and I believe in moral values and principles. Nuff said. I don't need a label to sleep at night and feel good about who I am.

Aren't "warm love and greetings" messages reserved at the end of a talk from a visiting speaker? Just Saying......unless the poster is trying to make a point and be a little sarcastic to any lurking elders from that particular congregation that is referenced.

Mine was big time JW all the way, regular, assembly parts, elder/PO family members, etc. It just goes to show that there have to be loads of JW's out there who are just putting on the "show" to

What do you attribute to the main reason you were able to leave and embrace new viewpoints? Is it the heart, or your desire for intellectual satisfaction and proof, lifestyle, circumstances?

I concur with what you have laid out there. That is also how I recall it being taught. My thoughts are that it is an incredibly pious stance, and to single out with confidence is very arrogant. It seems overkill, no pun intended. I do wonder why the Bible writes wrote what they did.

JW has contract to build hanger on airforce base

my boy is currently working as a builders labourer for a jw.... told me on the weekend that he is off to build a hanger on an airforce base with his jw boss who got thr contract to build it.. i remarked that that sounded a bit suspect.... he said, 'yeah, i thought so too'.... oz.

I had a very good friend in my old cong that was a union electrician. He was working on a church and basically had no choice but to support his family as he was laid off for many months. Well someone squeeled on him and the brothers took away his prayer and commenting until he was done with the job.
