No, why do I need a building with a sign, an affiliation, rules, and talks to be the conduit for me to think about god, reflect on things in life and to have values that mold the way we treat people?

DO WE NEED TO BELONG TO A RELIGION TO BE A "SPIRITUAL PERSON"?
by foodalls ini have been noticing people posting on this site have a "deep" spiritual desire, but don't quite know how to find it, or where it is at.. this beg the question...do we need to be involved with a "religion" to find "spirituality"...especially an "organized religion"???.
anyone that has there eyes open can see that all religion is loosing their influence over people around the world...i spent 47 years thinking i was in the "truth" being one of jw's!
and now that i am out...and looking back from the "outside"...all i see is that its just another religion...filled with all the "control-grid" stuff found in any other group.. worse yet...they are worse than other religions...so it begs an answer..is there such thing as a "true religion"???.

I said I would do it and I just did, told my mom I want nothing to do with the org anymore
by Soldier77 ini would copy and paste my emails with my mom, but that would probably be too revealing.. anyway, i said in a post a while back that i was going to tell my mom i no longer want anything to do with the organization.
there have been a series of emails between the two of us lately and she was probing to see what was going on with me.
i haven't been out in fs in almost a year and i haven't been to a thursday night mtg in over 9 months.

Where would a JW marry a non-JW? A KH?
by InterestedOne inam i correct that jw marrying a non-jw is frowned upon but not forbidden?
if it's not forbidden, would the elders do the marriage in the kh?
i know the jw is forbidden to attend a non-jw religious ceremony, so another church would be out.

Never. First of all, I don't think I could wait that long. Not that I have ever jumped in the sack with someone instantly, and I have never had a once night stand.
But havent you guys and gals ever had a kiss with someone and it wasnt very good at all?! I imagine no one stays with someone who is a bad kisser? Or you teach them to kiss good. Same with sex I think.

Sautee mushrooms and garlic in olive oil in a big pan, throw in a bunch of handfuls of baby spinach, salt and pepper to taste, and toss around and turn off the heat. The spinach wilts and you have a great side veggie.
Spinach salad--this one is a must make.
bag of baby spinach
2 can mandarin oranges drained
sliced white mushrooms
1 can salted cashews
dressing:
1/2 c. sugar, 1/2 c. oil, 1/4 c cider vinegar, 1T onion powder or minced onion, 1/4 t. worchestershire sauce, 1T sesame seed and 1 t. paprika.
The combo of salty and sweet and sour makes this salad very memorable. You can do strawberries and almonds too if you like also.

Call me paranoid, but its possible that this 30 hour initiative is a weeding out process....a cull if you will...
by miseryloveselders inwe've discussed a few potential reasons why the wt is promoting april 2011 as a month of special activity.
reasons include manipulating statistics, and trying to provide some kind of spark to increasingly apathetic and discouraged congregations.
i'm sure there are others i'm missing too, feel free to include those.

I think that pioneers are BORED. They are so bored seeing the other regular pub's faces every day, sitting in the car, getting rain and snow and crumbs all over the place, they want some fresh meat! That was her deal. She likes you. She wants some variety.
The whole 30 hour thing is IMO just about getting the "friends" out in the ministry more for the memorial, it gives them a topic to focus on, the weather is getting nicer then, and people are more happy, and more likely to do it. Then they feel proud of themselves. I think it is more of a morale booster than anything else.
People that don't join in will def be looked down upon. That was really out of line for her to ask about your work situation though! Pioneers can be pushy. Hell anyone can be pushy.
If you get questioned again, just say, no, I am not going to be doing it, and change the subject on something they will like to talk about.

Don't volunteer anything. Just let them talk. If you are silent, they will feel like filling up the empty space and speak for you. Answer very blah...Like how are you doing...well, we are ok. As well as we can be at this point.
Is your wife going along with the fade subconsiously?

THE MOST THRILLING MOMENT of your life.....?
by Terry inhere is the most thrilling moment of my life.. i got to meet my film composer heroes john barry and miklos rosza at the beverly hills writer's guild theater for a seminar on filmmusic.. i was 30 years old at the time and going through my "you look like clint eastwood" stage.
(i'm trying to explain my crazy hair!).
i chatted with them and got them to sign my albums.. what was your most thrilling moment?.

Several. Birth of my kids of course. Not feeling guilty about leaving the Jw's anymore. Buying a house after splitting with my ex.
Oh, one more thing thrills me, finding something truly cool that I have been looking for on the clearance rack. That really gets my blood going!
I want more thrills though and plan to find many more.
