You have repeatedly pasted the same links as proof to support your position that credible sources in the names of Penn and Oxford universities are conducting research into the paranormal with the implication that they can only be doing so because paranormal activity is real.

Other members of this board have followed your links and found that the linked institutions do not indeed conduct such research.

Now my two cents worth of contribution is:

What do you want us to find in the linked institutions' websites that those like kid who have visited them and already relayed to us what they have found may have missed? Since they did not find what you had said they would find, why don't you post what it is that they are not getting on those websites?
As to the other links that you have provided to societies/associations of people interested or making allegations on para-psychological experiences, do you consider such alleged experiences to be on the same level with peer reviewed published research of the kind that we would expect from Penn and Oxford universities were they to conduct and publish such findings?
Rather than keep re-posting the same links, can you post a summary of one specific peer reviewed published finding from a researcher at Penn or Oxford or any other reputable academic institution with and provide a link to the paper?

I grew up in the so called "truth" in the seventies after my father had been recruited into JWism a few years earlier. I guess many on this board will identify with me when I say that had WTS made this transcript known to my father, he most likely would not have become a JW and I along with my siblings would not have been brought up in this nonsense that has cost us very dearly.

To me, this shows the deliberate misleading of the entire JW populace by a small number of persons who deliberately undertook to mislead, misuse and waste the lives of others - the others being the entire population of JWs throughout the decades. Fredrick Franz, Corvington, Rutherford and a few others would most likely be among these culprits while Raymond Franz, Lyman Swingle and perhaps many others who came to serve on the GB after its establishment in the early 1970s were themselves unwitting victims of the great con pertuated by the likes of Rutherford and F. W. Franz. I'm of the view that some of those appointed into the 1970s GB may genuinely not have realized that they had been conned and were being used to perpetuate a con as Raymond Franz implicitly states in his CoC book. I however hypothesis that others among them had come to realize that they were perpetuating a con. I would place Karl F. Klein, Albert Schroeder, Lloyd Barry, Grant Suiter and Theodere Jaracz in this category.

Any thoughts or comments from others on this?

Calling from Africa

hey guys just wanted to let y'all know that i have noticed most of the emails relate to the states.... where are all those of you df'd etc etc in africa???

or were you all so brainwashed you dont even use the internet.....well we all face the same situations of terrible , judgemental, hypocrytical good for nothing co's elders etc.

i am so glad i dont have to deal with boring meetings that repeat the same old stuff day in day out....except of course when there is "new light".

Little Toe: Are you likely to come to Kenya again? If so, I'd like to meet you. I'd very much like to physically meet other people who contribute on this board. With the exception of my family members whom I've assisted learn the truth about the borg, I'm yet to meet an ex-JW who knows the truth about the borg and I yearn to meet one if only to talk to somebody whom I can identify with.

As you can see on this topic there are only two people who have reported coming from Africa - South Africa while I come from and live in East Africa with little hope of physically connecting with them unless I make sufficient money to travel.

Lost & found: I've completed reading The God Delusion most of which I was able to identify and agree with. I just wish more people could read it with an open mind. Where in South Africa do you live?

Living Alone - Love it or Loathe it?

well i have been living alone now for a week for the first time in about 6 years and apart from one or two minor episodes i am really really enjoying the freedom of it.

i feel like a weight has been lifted.

i feel free again - a tiny bit lonely at night - but mostly i think i've recaptured that long lost spring in my step.

I'm single and live alone. I suffer from loneliness and feel a deep need for a spouse. I plan to get married and to live with my spouse. I hope I will enjoy living with my spouse when I eventually marry.

The diversity of what different people prefer or find themselves liking in this matter goes to show how diverse we all are. It shows how preposterous it was for a few men at the borg's pinnacle to take it upon themselves to dictate our lives!

I've browsed through the "God Delusion" at a bookstore and I'm planning to buy a copy. Have you read 'A Brief History of Time' by Stephen Hawkings and 'Conversations With God' by Neale Donald? They might interest you.

I'm from Nairobi, Kenya. Quite lonely here as I don't know of any other exJWs in Kenya who are aware of the real truth about the borg except for members of my family whom I've managed to get out of JWism. Two have done a slow fade. One was disfellowshiped after she had already learned the truth about the troof and know longer cared about the borg. She told the elders off when they visited her and subsequently got disfellowshiped. The others had never been baptized but had been indoctrinated through being brought up in JWism from childhood. I am currently working with a non-family member who is on his way out and whom I've encouraged to do a slow-fade as opposed to a disassociation.

I'd be very interested in any ex-JWs from Kenya and other African countries who are on this or other ex-JW web-sites. We can perhaps explore getting together in person like others do in North America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. I suppose the majority of ex-JWs from Africa who may be on the internet would be be from South Africa. I wonder if any of you have ever organized an apostafest and if not would you be interested in one and do you think it is feasible to orgazize one?

What "Awoke" you from the Watchtower's grip?

in my case, i was very generous with those in need in the congregation, because i had a good job, but when i lost that good job, no one gave me a helping hand.

they just didn't care about my financial well being.. also the years went by and it was as if we were getting further and further away from what they previously prophetized.

I grew up in JWism from age 6 when my father was getting indoctrinated. My grandma was very opposed and what she said resulted in cognitive dissonance in me. My cognitive dissonance only increased with time even I was getting baptized at age 12. It increased to the point where my emotional pain became too much to bear and I turned to the internet.

What I found out on the net and what I read in CoC and Apocalypse Delayed sealed my fate.

I'm happy that I was able to get my parents and simblings out of it by initially deliberately increasing their cognitive dissonance which in turn forced them to explore alternative perspectives.

At a crossroads, need advice

over the last few years i have been trying unsucessfully to get my wife out of the org.

we've had a lot of ups & downs, arguments, and miserable times.

well, my wife has finally told me that she will respect my decision to no longer be a jw, and i can also do what i feel is best for our children in this respect.

I wish your questions had easy answers.

Here's my 2 cents worth of suggestions:

Our children are pre-teen, do I immediately stop allowing them to go to the KH? How do I explain our situation and begin "unteaching" them? How do I help them deal with missing the other kids at the KH?

Have you read the experience in Freeminds titled How I helped my Family Leave Jehovah's Witnesses ? Could you use the same method with your teenage in a manner that they can understand?

My wife...do I keep trying to get her out or be happy with the compromise we reached? When I stop going to the meetings I know she is going to get all kinds of "support", how do I (or should I) counteract this?

Could you keep up with meeting attendance till you have worked through my suggestion with regard to your children? That way your children are still likely to listen to what you say at the family "bible study". It will also likely stall the efforts of other JWs to "support" your wife and children "spiritually" if you were to completely cease all JW activities.

What do I do now? I want to be happy and have a real relationship with God, or understand my spiritual side. I want my wife and JW family to see that things are ok outside the WT walls and good people exist everywhere. I want to let the bitterness go and in time add something to the human experience. I want to be a friend to workmates or people that I meet in settings outside the KH...

Even as you at least engage in JW meeting attendance, you could cultivate friendships with non-JW people say workmates and others whom you could very gently introduce to your family. With time your new friends children could start interracting with your children while their wives could start to interact with your wife. Such interraction might make your family get to see that so-called "worldly" people by the WTS are not the monsters they are made to be.

which brings up another question, and I feel stupid asking, but how/where do I meet people?

You could start by having lunches with your workmates. With time you and the continued social interraction with them, you might find that genuine friendships develop between you and some of them.
You could join a health club - gym or whatever. This will expose you to "worldly" people in a neutral atmosphere. Again with time some of them will strike conversations with you that will lead to friendships.
You could volunteer to offer whatever service you can in charitable organizations in your town. This will again provide you with opprtunities to meet and interract with "worldly" people.

I know a lot of you have been at this point so I appreciate any answers or additional advice you can offer.

Welcome to the board Philip.

The June 15, 2000 Watchtower Questions from Readers article on what fractions of blood were acceptable/unacceptable was the final straw in my cognitive dissonance frame of mind that finally drove me to key in the name of Raymond Franz into an internet search engine in search of an alternative view from the official WTS one. The rest as the saying goes is history. I no longer believe in the borg.

12 years earlier, I had questioned "elders" in a judicial committee to provide me with answers as to why non-military national service was wrong. They could not provide me with a logical answer from the Bible only saying that it was the "F&D" slave's position.

I'm sure there are still very many in the borg suffering from cognitive dissonance. Your letter to the GB could help some who may be lurking here at JWD.

Perhaps going "back" to the future would be very useful to our healing assuming we would be able to see the eventual outcomes of our journies before we take all the steps! What's your take?
