I have not met the Pentons but his book Apocalypse Delayed helped me a lot in concluding that WTBTS is not God's channel of truth to mankind back in 2000. My condolences to Jim. Marilyn RIP.

Losing Faith in Faith..
by Dis-Member ini came across this lecture at 3am not being able to sleep by dan baker.
it details his transition from christian fundamentalist to atheist and the various shades in-between.
he realises that every denomination of christian can open the bible and prove to you that they have the right interpretation and everyone else is wrong.

Dis-Member,
I share the perspective you have expressed regarding faith. If deity is the person it is interpreted to be from what is gleaned from biblical writings - whether a singular person or three persons constituting one deity or whatever other interpretation that sees deity as a person - to have personal faith, from my perspective requires direct interaction and not hand me down accounts due to the challenges posed in verifying such accounts. If it were very vital that we hold a specific set of beliefs or perspective regarding the deity, logic tells me that the deity would directly convey to each one of us the information that we would need to exercise whatever faith the deity would require of us. The deity could then hold us to account for acting in accordance with or against such information.

Update on Alan Feuerbacher's heart attack that he had last Sunday
by AndersonsInfo inalan'swife, julie, talked to the cardiologist this morning.
the news about alan's heart is good.
he described the heart attack as mild and said that although there is damage to the lower portion of his heart, the pumping action probably won't be affected much.

Do Christians hold similar intepretations of Daniel's prophecies?
by Knowsnothing injust curious on what you guys think?
i still think the statue and beast prophecy describes quite well rome(iron) and the current fragmented political system around the world(clay mixed with iron).
certainly, the particulars about the north and the south i don't care for because they are really open to interpretation.

My take is that the prophecy was not meant for our day and is therefore meaningless to us. If it was for our day, God would have designed a way for each one of us to know what the prophecy referred to. Otherwise, if the ordinary person has to rely on what a purported scholar has to offer in way of interpretation, and there could be a thousand and one such scholars each coming with their interpretation of a prophecy and most of whose works any one ordinary person would not even have come across, how would one be sure that what they are reading as the purported interpretation is correct? Most of us on this board once believed the WTS interpretation of the 7 times prophecy just to come to conclude that the WTS interpretation could not have been correct. So how can one ever know that the interpretation they have come across based on a scholar's writings is the correct one? If this be the case, then prophecy purported to be for our times is meaningless and could therefore not have been meant for our time.

Terra Incognita, your post would surely reinforce the image that WT wants to create in the faithful that "apostates" are such not because of a sincere realization that they have been misled by WT teachings but have wicked hearts!

Fortunately for me, my dad and my siblings, we all came out of The Watchtower mindset in 2000/2001 courtesy of the internet though my dad and mum never got out of the org formally till last year when they were disf for exercising their democratic right to cast a vote to decide on a political question. Good riddance and severing of all relationship with a crazy org!

2011 has definitely not been very good for me. 1968 must have been a very happy year for me as I turned five a year befor my dad started on the road of getting deceived by the WBTS from whence things have never been the same!

More questions to ponder,
- Even if Penn, Oxford or any other reputable university were to conduct research into the paranormal, would this not just be a bid to examine if there is something into the alleged phenomena and not a conclusion that the phenomena exists? Isn't all research a finding out and not a conclusion? Wouldn't any conclusions have to await the research's findings?
