That was terrific! I love hearing about life in history and always want to learn where many sayings come from. Especially why a 'wake' was called a 'wake'...finally I know!

i realized that one year has passed since i initially signed up on this board.
a year ago i was afraid of being part of this place; but knew it was necessary if i wanted to move beyond where i was.
today i am totally comfortable being around here.
Kristen,
Congrats! You expressed your thoughts so eloquently and perfectly. I related to a lot of the things you said about respecting others' opinions and valuing them. I am happy you've done well and yours is an example of 'growing up' that I hope to follow successfully.

ooops!
how did i end up posting this twice?
is there a way to erase one of them?.
Thanks for the info Gsark. Coincidentally, I really do have a 'thing' for 'yummy' voices, so I just may check out the audio version you spoke of

i was just wondering: never in my life have i owned (or even read) a bible other than the nwt.
i really wish to study the bible but really do not wish to use this version.
after seeing the plethora of bibles out there i was wondering if there is any person here who can give me an un-biased opinion on which bible to get.
Thanks Questor, Simon.
I think I'll look up the Fee & Stuart book you recommended and Simon? Which book are you talking about that has the eight translations? It sounds like a doozie to read but it might be insightful.
Thanks Again,
Kat

hey ya'll ... ain't tuesdays, thursdays and sundays even better nowadays ?.
i was wondering what it is that you hated most about the meets ?.
the one thing that used to really rile me was the pressure to control the children - the frowns and the disapproving looks when they were just behaving like normal kids .... the worst of it all for me was seeing any little person being taken outside and hearing the loud slaps even when the door was closed .... what is it that you least miss ?
I specifically remember growing up and witnessing A LOT of spankings/beatings. Even outside the KH...my mother would take me to a sister's house where the two women would be having coffee, etc...a social visit...and it seemed like EVERY single time we went out, one of the kids I played with would end up 'getting it'...usually within our line of sight, sometimes right in front of me and my mom. Once I was in the KH bathroom and one of the notorious 'meanie' mommies brought her little girl (maybe 2 or 3 years old) in and, pardon my language, beat her ass. I was too scared to leave the stall because I was embarrassed and uncomfortable--For some reason I didn't want the woman to know I was there--(I was maybe 6 or 7 at the time) so I had to sit there hiding and waited it out. Thinking of it today makes me ill. That was by far the #1 thing I hated about the whole JW experience.
Second hated thing: It is funny how when you are going to meetings regularly and doing everything they want you to, everyone is SO friendly and treat you like family. Imagine being 15 with no worldly friends and your family becomes somewhat irregular in attendance--I basically became the 'uncool' kid. Nobody invited me anywhere. That sucked.

if you are an employer, never hire a jehovah's witness.
the reason for this is simple: that mistake may cost you a lot of money!
you can bot expect a jehovah's witness to do what they are told to do, but you can expect them to do the oposite!
Where did I hear this: I heard that there have been a couple of cases where a JW who works for say, a psych. or a phys., where confidentiality is required, will break that rule if something pertains to a fellow JW patient. Is that true? I can't remember where but I read it on-line very recently. Won't I feel dumb if I read it here...
Just Wondering.

After seeing the plethora of bibles out there I was wondering if there is any person here who can give me an un-biased opinion on which bible to get. Most people I ask are telling me any bible will do. But I have noticed so many differences among the selection. I rented a KJV from the local library for now but before actually buying one I would like some advice. Are there any other versions where the words are translated so as to possibly give a different meaning? I know I ask the impossible--I've heard there is no 'perfect' translation of the bible. But I feel I need the most accurate translation possible to study properly and comfortably. Is there a universally acceptable, true-to-original-meaning (or as much as possible) bible? I keep hearing KJV is the way to go but I am now seeing so many other ones out there; it's so confusing! I would like to make an informed decision. For someone who was supposedly brought up in such a 'wise' religion (JW), I sure am ignorant about a lot of basic things!

well why not!?
they're his feet and all........ >> http://www.cutoffmyfeet.com/.
isp
My question: the website says nothing about medical help. Is he just going to sit there and cut his feet off willy-nilly? No medical precautions? No infection control? Isn't this kind of dangerous without medical intervention? What are they going to do with the feet??? I hardly think they can just 'throw' them in the trash bin.
