Actually no... on many occasions I was mysteriously volunteered for stuff. Even at the beginning, I never really joined the TMS.. I just ended up on the schedule one day because somebody thought I was "ready". It ticked me off somewhat...

How Many Of You "Reached Out" For Extra "Privileges"?
by minimus inwhether you are a male or female, the organization was always making you try to reach out for extra privileges whether it be pioneering for a month, year or a lifetime, going to bethel, or becoming a "servant" in the hall.. did you feel compelled to "reach out" or did you want to do more for "jehovah god"?.

Little Darth Vader made my night during the Super Bowl. I could totally relate to that commercial.
by miseryloveselders ini usually don't get caught up in they hype of super bowl commercials, and i was flipping through various channels during commercial breaks.
however, i have to admit i was pleasantly surprised by the lil darth vader volkswagon spot.
it touched me personally, because every kid i grew up with wanted to be darth vader at one point or another.

I love this elder..
by pubtruth inthis past weekend during the watchtower study, along came in the discussion the title of the infamous book "millions now living will never die" and i was surprised he would utter that exact title!
when recent watchtower publications call it "millions now living may never die" .. i was about to burst a smile when i heard him say it!
very interesting moment during the study..

Interesting...
A quick search in the WT LIB
*** w90 4/1 p. 31 Questions From Readers ***
History shows that the public exposure of these facts actually began before 1922. For example, the lecture “Millions Now Living May Never Die,” first delivered in 1918 and published in booklet form in 1920, told of Christendom’s failure and of the approaching end of this world. The Golden Age of September 29, 1920, plainly exposed Christendom as a fornicator, a lying fraud, and a misleader of the people.
*** w90 12/15 pp. 12-13 par. 11 “Let Anyone Hearing Say: ‘Come!’” *** 11 For decades this invitation to “come!” has been going forth to people thirsting for “life’s water.” Even back in 1918, the bride class began preaching a message that particularly involved those who might live on the earth. It was the public talk entitled “Millions Now Living May Never Die.” This offered a hope that many would survive Armageddon and thereafter gain eternal life on the Paradise earth under God’s Messianic Kingdom. But that message did not definitely show the way to this survival privilege, except by righteousness in general.
*** w85 10/15 p. 19 par. 15 The “Nation” That Feeds Famine-Stricken Millions *** 15 Thus in the opening years of liberation and reinstatement in Jehovah’s favor, true Christians began to blossom as “the planting of Jehovah.” (Isaiah 61:3) In 1918, the final year of World War I, the astounding lecture “Millions Now Living May Never Die” was publicly delivered by J. F. Rutherford. With merely a small remnant of spirit-begotten disciples of the reigning King, Jesus Christ, left on earth to undertake the God-ordained work that then devolved upon them, was that an overestimation of matters? Looks like lecture was indeed entitled "may never die" ... and it looks like the WTS is reporting that correctly. It's interesting that some elders mix the lecture title up with the book title... -

who succeeded Fred Franz not as President but the theological guru
by ex-Special Pioneer infor decades fred franz was the guru of the watchtower bible & tract society.
he was obsessed with "biblical prophecy" trying to explain the book of daniel and revelation.
who took over after he stopped writing and who is considered the authority on the jws teaching today especially the so called "prophetic interpretation?

I agree... it seems nobody was as..... creative... as Fred Franz. Or with the attention to detail. I don't think Fred Franz would have made the mistakes made in the latest Jeremiah book...

Disfellowshiped ARE REQUIRED to sit in the library!
by brotherdan inmy mother-in-law is making leaps and bounds in her progress to get out of the watchtower.
for those of you that don't know, she is df'd but has been working on "coming back".
recently i've been able to exchange emails about the dangers of the organization and share jesus with her.

@miseryloveselders:
That elder body is WAY out of line. She needs to write the Branch, and pronto. Something I've been meaning to do is share some notes regarding the treatment of disfellowshipped as relayed to us at the KM School for elders. The way the material was relayed to us, it left me under the impression that Bethel Heavies and Branch Heavies including COs/DOs, are getting feedback of inappropriate treatment of the disfellowshipped and even those recently reinstated. They probably recognize that disfellowshipping is questionable in itself, to the point that they don't need elder bodies going above and beyond in humiliating those being sanctioned.
If she wrote the branch, and found that this elder was indeed acting outside the desires of the WTS, and told him to back off, do you think they would hold a grudge and basically look for any excuse to DF her again?

@Iron Head:
You wrote this:
"Because people who make a blanket statement and then ask that others disprove it are dumbasses"
And then a few posts later, this:
"I gave an opinion. Post an argument to repudiate it. Dumbass"
By your own statements, you brand yourself a dumbass. Also, consider that there was no "blanket statement" made. I asked questions in light of the first post, since it set the tone for the thread. In the OP, there was a video that even sited more sources for the stand taken. You are just mouthing off. As a matter of strategy, if you are going to mouth off, at least try not to contradict yourself ... or call yourself a dumbass.
You have absolutely no idea how I form my opinions. You assume. Which makes you an ass and a second degree dumbass
Yes, I don't know how you form your opinions... does anyone? Do you even know how you form your opinions?

@ IronHead
bohm provided some. Or perhaps you can just watch the video that was posted right at the beginning of the thread. Of course, that might be a little too obvious ...
So why the "Dumbass" remark? Did I not bow to Fox News the way you do?

Beards vs. Bow Ties: Which is more "immodest" or attention drawing?
by Open mind inif you were on a hiring panel for a new chair of the federal reserve board, would either a neatly trimmed beard or a bow tie even register on your dress and grooming "radar"?.
i'm talking ben bernanke, (current chairman of the fed).
richard abrahamson, secretary/treasurer of the wtb&ts of pennsylvania since 2000. i looked all over and couldn't find a picture of him, but he's famous for his bow ties.

@brotherdan,
I don't know... I've seen some pretty decent facial hair on sisters ... I mean, if you were standing 10 ft away, you could see... well, at least a good shadow. :)
