The full moon was at around 4:45 this morning. So the WT celebrated the memorial about 10 hours ahead of the full moon. If they celebrate the memorial tonight, they'd be doing so 14 hours AFTER the full moon. It's really a toss up... either way, weren't they supposed to do this until Jesus returned in 1914???

The following is a test of the JW logical response system. This is only a test.......
by Mr. Falcon ini was going to write this whole big thing regarding something that recently happened to me, but i wasn't sure how much feedback it would attract.
therefore, i'll just ask this question:.
has anyone here ever voiced displeasure or experienced difficulties due to clearly rude, incompetant, greedy or otherwise inappropriate behavior from fellow jws, only to be told that you are simply being "tested"?.
-
Alfred
Falcon... yes!!! this most certainly is a typical response...
Another "similar" response I've gotten is: "The devil picks on Jehovah's favorite JWs so you should feel fortunate that you're being tested. It's a sign that you have won Jehovah's favor and an opportunity for you to show Jehovah that you're faithful til the end..."

Were the WT thinking of abandoning the 607 B.C.E date back in 2000?

The governing body revisited this subject in sessions held on June 7, 1978, March 6, 1979 and November 14 1979, but nothing ever came out of those discussions... they kept 607 and 1914 even though they knew the evidence was stacked up a mile high against 607... Not sure if this was revisited again in 2000...

June 15, 2011 WT... Are they really getting that desperate?

So I was just browsing the June 15, 2011 (study edition) Watchtower and came across this seemingly desperate article in the last two pages (29 & 30):
A Christian has a Scriptural obligation to care for his family, and that includes providing for their material needs. (1 Tim. 5:8) Still, does this really require a college or a university degree ?
It would be good to consider what effect pursuing higher education could have on one’s relationship with Jehovah. Let us illustrate this by considering a Scriptural example.
Baruch was the secretary to the prophet Jeremiah. At one point, rather than focusing on the privileges he had in serving Jehovah, Baruch became ambitious. Jehovah noticed this and through Jeremiah warned him: “You keep seeking great things for yourself. Do not keep on seeking.”—Jer. 45:5.
What were the “great things” that Baruch kept seeking? He may have been tempted to make a name for himself in the Jewish system of things. Or the great things could have been material prosperity . In any case, he had lost sight of the more important things, those having spiritual value. (Phil.1:10) Yet, Baruch obviously listened to Jehovah’s warning through Jeremiah and thus gained his soul as a spoil.—Jer. 43:6.
What can we draw from this account? The counsel Baruch received indicates that something was amiss. He was seeking great things for himself. If you have a means of supporting yourself, do you really need to spend time, money, and effort on further education just to realize personal aspirations or those of your parents or other relatives?
Consider Grzegorz, a computer programmer . Persuaded by his colleagues, he took up an intensive course of additional specialized training . Soon he had no time left for spiritual pursuits. He recalls: “I constantly felt on edge. My conscience troubled me because I could not reach the spiritual goals I had set for myself.”
A couple of things that really need to be pointed out here… First, the Biblical account of Baruch is (not surprisingly) taken way out of context. If the entire passage is read in its full context, it’s quite clear that God was merely reminding Baruch to stay focused on the task at hand since Jerusalem was about to be destroyed. At least, that’s the way I read it. But the Watchtower writer here is really reaching when he presents the possibility of Baruch looking to “make a name for himself”. Second, Baruch’s example has absolutely nothing to do with teenagers seeking to gain some skills in order to prepare themselves for the tough world they live in.
But this last example (Grzegorz’ specialized training) is an area where the Watchtower has only treaded on rare occasions… So not only are young JWs discouraged from seeking a college degree, they are also being discouraged from seeking “specialized training” as well.
Also, it’s interesting that this June 15, 2011 Watchtower starts off by pushing JW children to get baptized (pages 3-5) and ends by suggesting that they avoid college AND specialized training… Is the Watchtower really getting that desperate? What say you?

AndersonsInfo
by minimus ini am sick and tired of people putting down posters like the andersons!
they work hard to expose some things we might never have known about.
why some find fault with them, or ray franz before them, or maximus when he was here is beyond me.. be thankful for those that decide to come here and share what they know about this organization.. we get elders who are still in their positions and they share with us a lot of interesting news and perspectives.

Alfred
Right on Minimus! ... had Ray or Barbara decided to stay in and not share their discoveries, a lot of us would probably still be ignorant followers of the FDS...

Is it just me, or does GB member Stephen Lett sound like a pre-school teacher reading a story book to 4 year-olds?
I fell asleep when he started talking about the "endurance" of the cherubs... I guess JWs in Brazil must slowing down lately ... who knows...

Has anyone left still believing it was the truth?
by FollowedMyHeart init seems that most xjws have left because at one point in their jw life something happened that made them start to think something wasn't right with the religion.
when i left, i still believed the jws had "the truth".
i was dying inside, trapped and unhappy (another poster's words, but describes exactly how i felt).
-
Alfred
I left mainly because of 1914... for many years I would be able to prove to anyone that the WT had the "truth" because they predicted 1914. I knew all the related proof texts backwards and forwards and there was no one who could go toe-to-toe with me on chronology... but then the "overlapping generations" mentioned in the April 15, 2010 Watchtower raised a BIG RED FLAG... several weeks later, I started browsing books on Amazon and Crisis of Conscience caught my attention so I ordered it... After finishing COC, I quickly jumped into Gentile Times Reconsidered and halfway through the book I started to feel like a complete fool... that definitely did it for me...

JWs want the medical community to RESPECT their beliefs
by sabastious inhow can jehovah's witnesses demand respect from the medical community as regards to their refusal to take blood tranfusions?
how could i ask my doctor, or anyone for that matter, to engage in my suicide?
how can a witness ask a doctor, or anyone, to take their child's life?.
-
Alfred
Last year I had a falling out with my sister over this subject... she was quick to bring up how JWs were right all along and that more doctors are using the so-called "alternatives"... I stopped her cold when I asked her: "what alternatives were available in the 40's when the WT came up with this ridiculous doctrine?" I also pointed out that well over 75% of the world's population live in areas where these "alternatives" are NOT available... and even if they were, JWs in those areas probably wouldn't be able to afford these... so what what are JWQ's supposed to do? let their children die??? she responded with something ridiculous like that's what the resurrection is for or Jehovah knows what he's doing or some other ridiculous nonsense... it's no use...
