Lies about Suicides in Congregations
by EXMS inhave you ever noticed what the elders say when a depressed person commits suicide?.
i unfortunately knew of two people in my area, one a guy about my age, the other was in his mid 40's that commited suicide.
both times, at their memorials, the elders from stage said that they were home alone and was cleaning their hand gun/ rifle when it accidently fired and killed them.

That article sure has a Freddy Franz style to it, but who knows?
If anyone has an actual copy of that magazine, I'd sure be interested in buying it... please PM me... thanks

Snakeface... you nailed it...
I mean, really... where is it written that you have to approach an elder to find out about someone versus calling that person yourself? Also, why would you miss someone at a meeting where there is really no genuine exchange of ideas, feelings or experiences? It's basically your run of the mill bland and boring "business meeting" with no real "To-Dos" aftwerwards except regurgitate the magazine presentations in the KM...
I'm keeping it real here... unless you have close childhood friends in the KH, how can you possibly miss anyone in this kind of environment?

What do you think about the "United Church of God"?
by tia.dalma inhere is a link to their main site.
http://www.ucg.org/.
i've read a little about them and they do not believe in trinity, and have similar believes as jehovah's witnesses.. they also try to keep all ten commandments, in addition to that.. i did not research all their doctrines, but a lot of them look familiar to me.. what do you think?.

Mad Sweeney.... wow! that video really had me floored!... there should be a separate thread on it... the similarities between this "radio minitry" and the WT are numerous! pretty scary stuff!
I need to watch it a second time and take some notes...
thanks for posting it

Blondie... how did you guess that? (they're so predictable aren't they?)
I received an email from an Elder back in March regarding an entirely different subject... but towards the end of it, he mentions that some brothers were asking about me... i responded: that's more than the elders have done so far... (on the other hand, they do have my number.)..

1 year since my last meeting!
by Alfred ini just realized that today marks my first year since attending a meeting at the kh... i really wanted to celebrate this day but it just creeped up and its kinda late now... i guess i'll celebrate tomorrow night instead.. but i wanted to log in to thank everyone who has helped me with their valuable insight and perspective... i came to this site with a typical judgemental jw mentality and now i can say i'm completely rid of all that... i now value everyone's opinions and talk more freely with people i used to consider "worldly"... what a completely freeing experience!.
the hardest part of my exit from the cult was convincing my wife... that took about 6 months and i nearly gave up... thank god she eventually woke up.. also, in the past year i've read.... gentile times reconsideredcombatting mind controlcrisis of conscience*in search of christian freedomapocalypse delayed*3 books out of the 7 "studies in the scriptures"5 rutherford books*i met 2 of the people mentioned in crisis of conscience and apocalypse delayed and had dinner with them recently... hoping to build that relationship further.. i've also sent about 26 emails to several elders on a variety of subjects and 6 letters to the brooklyn and i'm still not da's or df'd!
none of these emails or letters changed anything but it helped me purge.... i could go on and on but it's the same story you've probably read a thousand times already.. anyway, if it wasn't for all the support and encouragement i received on this site (as well as randy's site and barbara's site), i wouldn't be where i am today.. so a big thank you to you all!!!.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. The good thing about sites like this one is that you can make an informed decsion on what books to read 1st, 2nd, etc... (by the way, my wife just pointed out that I actually read COC and Gentile Times BEFORE my last meeting, so I stand corrected).
LittleMac asked: Just curious, what made you finally delve into the 'apostate' world?
I can't really put my finger on it, but the April 15, 2010 Watchtower with the "Overlapping Generations" was a BIG part of it. After reading that article, I knew it was time to put my fear aside and start looking behind the curtain.
Len Miller: Thanks for the compliments. The Finished Mystery was a really hard pill to swallow. I remember becoming extremely angry half through the book and I even threw it against the wall towards the end. I remember thinking: "How could Jesus have chosen the Watchtower as God's "earthly organization" in 1918 when we were peddling this 600-page book filled with deliberate lies and false predictions?"
It took a lot longer than I expected, but the shock, anger and dissapointment are all gone now.
Thanks again to everyone for all your help!

Totally ADD... HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!
I feel that way sometimes myself but it serves as a reminder that I made the right decision in leaving a year ago.
By the way, I actually have ADD myself... it's pretty severe at times...
