My 18-yr old college freshman nephew has just been cut off for leaving the JWs...
by Alfred ini spoke about him in a previous thread... he's the nicest kid you'll ever meet... smart, humble, shows respect and is very kind to everyone around him... except for one minor thing... you guessed it... he no longer believes in the jw religion.
also, he feels it is simply a place for hopeless people to gather and give each other moral support without actually doing anything productive to better their lives... i won't get into the details on how he arrived at this conclusion... suffice to say, he did not want to be a part of this crowd any longer.. incredibly, when he was a lot younger, he was able to convince his jw father (a po) and his jw mother (my sister) that they should let him go to college when he turns 18 (and help him pay for it!!!).
so they started putting some money away and my nephew has been in college since september!.

Blacksheep... it most certainly will be a nightmare, but he'll make it... he's very focused and determined not to fail...
In fairness to my sister, she's just going along with whatever my arrogant, self-centered brother-in-law decides... about 8 months ago, this prick had the audacity to tell me that my "attitude is described in the elders manual".... wtf?

Incredibly, when he was a lot younger, he was able to convince his JW father (a PO) and his JW mother (my sister) that they should let him go to college when he turns 18 (and help him pay for it!!!). So they started putting some money away and my nephew has been in college since September!
However, he recently stopped going to meetings and moved out of the house about a month ago. When this happened, I thought: "Oh no... It's just a matter of time before they cut him off!"... well, sure sh*t, I just got this text message from him last night:
"I've just been cut off. What kind of parents won't help u pay for college? It's ridiculous. There should be a law against this."
So the rug has just been pulled out from under him after just one semester and he's on the fence on what to do next. I'll spare you the rest of the text messages that went back and forth, but I'm sure this experience will make him a much better and stronger person, able to deal with real life situations with no WT filter clouding his judgment. He did promise me he would download "Crisis of Conscience" today and start reading it as soon as possible.
I'll keep you updated on his reaction to the book...

???
This letter is essentially saying that if pedophiles claim that they're trully sorry and then become Ministerial Servants or Elders, they have a pretty good chance of being excluded from the Child Protection List.
So if any British WT branch is ever confronted by the media regarding JWs on the list, they can simply say: "Oh no... We only have a handful of pedophiles compared to other religions. But you'll never see God's appointed servants or elders on that list because they've been appointed by holy spirit."

Any consequences for not attending the Memorial?
by sacolton infor active jws, what would happen if they missed the memorial?
guilt-trip from the elders?
why isn't it a disfellowshipping offense since it is stressed to be of vital importance to attend?.
-
Alfred
The consequence for not attending the memorial is DEATH...
Therefore, anyone deliberately staying away from this celebration, on March 29, does well to consider this question: If willful disregard of the ancient Passover was punishable by death, would not a more severe punishment be meted out to one who spurns the Lord’s Evening Meal, trampling on the provision represented by the bread and wine? Surely you will want to accept the invitation to be present for this celebration and, in faith, accept the provision of Jesus’ ransom sacrifice.—Num. 9:13; Heb. 10:26-31. –Watchtower March 15, 1972 page 167

"We are not allowed to have credit cards."
by OnTheWayOut ini was traveling and used my credit card to buy a gift at the airport.. so the lady behind the counter flips my credit card over to look at the signature and it says "see i.d.
" where my signature belonged.
she asked for the i.d.. .

Alfred
Blondie... maybe the credit card rule was supposed to be "sribbled in" on one of the page margins of that church manual (for legal reasons... like the JW elder manual)...

Phone witnessing??
by OneDayillBeFree inits just praised religous telemarketing!.
ive been doing it this whole morning and the only thing i've done to make it go quicker was to memorize a disconnected number.. its been working extremely well.... but did any of you that ever did it feel strange like you were selling something?!
like you were in a call center?.
-
Alfred
I've heard of it, but never knew anyone who actually did any "phone witnessing"... I think the whole idea was to reduce or eliminate free time if a JW became chronically sick or injured... also, they could squeeze out some phone-witnessing "experiences" for assemblies to "guilt" the rank-and-file and hopefully reduce the number of "irregulars" and "inactives".... like every other stupid idea from Brooklyn, it's all about control, numbers and money...

Kingdom melodies / B4 Copyright/JW`s stealing melodies/anyone remember this ?
by smiddy ini can recall sometime ago in the 60`s 70`s or theirabouts,it when they first printed their own songbook must have been before the org.copyrighted their material, and the reason they did that is because some brothers were stealing the tunes ?
maybe modifying them and passing them off as their own for commercial gain?
( i know some of you are going to say wtf ?

i've never heard of any JWs trying to peddle off a "Kingdom re-mix" album, but the Society always made money with "Kingdom Melodies"...
The Society has available a quantity of orchestral recordings of the music from the 1966 songbook “SingingandAccompanyingYourselvesWithMusicinYourHearts.” This set of ten long-playing stereophonic records (P1-P10) is available at a reduced cost of $6.00 per set for publishers; $5.00 per set for pioneers. -Kindom Ministry July, 1987 p. 3
