ELDERS want to meet with me?
by Smoky inits been about 5 years since i've talked to the elders in the my old congregation.
now the elders from my parents congregation, want to come by and talk with me (sheperding call?).
i know one of them, i believe they feel obligated since i llive in there territory.

I agree. It may be best not to meet. Make up a reason. Or not. If it were me, I wouldn't let them. You don't have to accept a "sheparding call", and I have refused them before even when I was very active. I told them I thought their time might be better spent with someone else.

Thought stopper: "We are the only ones doing what Jesus did."
by sabastious inthis is one of the top thought stopping phrases here.. it invalidates any argument presented against the organization.
it basically says this:.
"it doesn't matter who did what in the org, it doesn't matter how bad things get, we are the only ones doing what jesus did, therefore all errors and corruption are disregarded as we await the end.".

It was a thought stopper for me, that's for sure.

If Jehovah God Chose Russell & The Bible Students Why Did He Give Them So Much Inaccurate Information?
by minimus inhmmm.
either jehovah god (the perfect god) didn't give that information.
it never was the "truth" in the first place..

It was the combination of reading Studies in the Scriptures and of reading the bible in context, front to back, that convinced me that this is not God's channel. And although some made comments that it was "old light" not too much could be said. After all, it's our own publications, and no one could suggest that it was apostate literature. I was able to discuss it freely with my family without too much defensiveness.
Russell didn't go along with the idea of everyone dying at Armageddon. I thought his arguments were sound regarding that point, for the idea of everyone dying at Armageddon is just NOT scripturally supported. And you would think that such a human catastrophe would be discussed in great detail, right? Other than the mention in Revelation, and that only speaks of the destruction of governments, not of people, it isn't mentioned anywhere.
It was the realization that this was false that turned the tables for me.
The organization's own literature condemns them. I wish I had read these books sooner. They kept me busy reading current stuff, and so busy with meetings and field service that you don't have the time.
All the wittnesses should read Russell. They'd leave in droves.

I just read the two links that Farkel provided. Excellent advice on reaching family members (and family members are the place to start, after all, you don't want to be labeled an "apostate" until you have them all out). I intend to keep this in mind, and I will modify my approach a little bit more towards the mind control aspect. It's hard not to tell or say too much, isn't it?

Great job! I plan to use this on my family. I will start by mentioning that I got a call at the door from some, and we got into a bibical discussion and I plan to do some research as they are going to call back to hear more from me on our views. Ha, ha, this will give me an army of info to present over the next couple of weeks with NO NEGATIVE comments about the org!
Thanks Farkel! I just love the stuff you write.

Great argument and reasoning. I think you'll get somewhere with her. You've got her thinking.

What's The Watchtower So Paranoid About Anyway?
by minimus inso, you see a hidden book (in this internet age), so you view a "confidential" letter, so you record a meeting?.
the watchtower thinks they are entrusted with special communication that ultimately comes from god.
only special ones can be privy to the inner most holy of the watchtower society.. they obviously feel they have been enlightened by god & his governing body to demand whatever allegiance they feel is deserved.. yet, quite simply, they are full of shit.

Old literature. Old literature is an awakening call to apostacy.

my blueprint for saving my family
by Evidently Apostate infor over a year i have felt the borg is a cruel hurtfull religion that would swallow up empathy for forced unity.
my wife has said to me that telling her how i believe the org is not gods channel and the many doctrines put in place are nothing but a shroud covering up control tactics is like telling her i have a terminal illness.
this has not swayed my research nor has her pressure to continue going to meetings.

I admire your approach, and the self-control it has taken to do this a tiny, tiny, step at a time. I have been off the board for the last couple of weeks due to a family emergency, and am currently catching up on the things that have taken place. Congratulations on your success with your wife!
I too am having success with a plan similar to yours, questions only, then listen, a brief comment, and stop. One of my grandsons told me the other day he will not be getting baptized, that he has doubts that the org is the channel through which god is working.
My sister is coming along nicely with this plan as well. She will look at me sharply if I start a conversation (then I immediately quit) but she is beginning to share some interest in what I have said. She is openly admitting to beginning to have doubts herself. I think it will only be a matter of time with her.
I would strongly advocate your approach. I am so happy for you and your wife. I can see that this will change your life.

I understand the good intentions of those who are advising you to seek legal help, etc. right away. I am an old woman, and so I have an opinion that is based on many years of watching this happen to others. I think it is always a mistake in marriage to ever even MENTION a divorce. You cannot work out problems in separate homes. It is the first step down the path of divorce. You cannot go off the deep end because you two have had what is clearly a really horrible disagreement. You can withdraw some (some) money to care for your own needs, but do you want to give her the perception that you have stopped caring for her needs? This is a very critical time. You may be thinking how this cannot work because of these differences, but she is not the problem, she is only part of the problem. She feels the same as you do. It's hard to see the other person's hurt and sense of abandonment at a time like this. Her parents should be doing everything they can to support the marriage, it's a parents job to help preserve a marriage if at all possible.
Don't discount the outcome of this for your children. I am not trying to put a "guilt trip" on you, but you cannot just think of the problems of the two of you. It is a life changing experience for them, it is a pain for all children. You are obviously having feelings of "not being able to continue to be a hypocrite". but your feelings are not the only ones that count. I am sure that what I am saying is not as comforting as what some others have said, but I feel I need to speak truth to younger ones.
Someone said to me on my first post, "You don't have to DO anything. Breathe...." It's good advice. I know it's not fair to have to put this on you just because you are the man in this story, but I would give your wife the same advice. Whoever does it, try to preserve the marriage. These things can be worked out. But you have to do it together, not apart. Don't pay attention to the harsh words now. Now is the time for soft words, the words of a man who loves you. She is unreasonable now, but she is still a woman. Listen to Yknot. She gives the words of a woman, from the female perspective.
Don't rush to judgement. Take your time, please.
