And I am not bitter. I love the Witnesses I've known. I help them when I can, even when I have to go through my Mother to do it. Even though they don't speak to me, they know I love them, and I hold no bitterness toward any of them.

The Greatest Gift (no one is guaranteed tomorrow)
by AllTimeJeff ini was watching a movie on cable this week, and was impressed.
it was about a woman who chose prostitution, in part to live out a life of lust.
the movie is more about her journey to learn about herself.

Excellent!
Since leaving, my brother went to college and is now a practicing attorney (he was in his mid/ late 30's when he finished). I am in my 2nd year of college and work full time (about 60 hours per week).
I will not be 50 years old and think "If I'd only gone to college......."
You, Jeff are absolutely correct!!
God bless!!

Generation Teaching - Everyone is speechless?
by Red Piller inmaybe the effect of this change is bigger than realized?
in 1995, it was discussed (positively) by everybody, during the week we studied the wt.
one elder stepped down and was looked down upon.

I tried asking my JW Mom about it, and she didn't care. It was whatever the WT says........Absolutely no reasoning with her....(even of it is from the scriptures)

You can get disfellowshipped for a dirty house too!
by GrandmaJones ini was telling my sister that i downloaded a copy of the new "flock" book (don't worry, my sister doesn't bat an eye over my doing things like this) and she was asking me if there was anything "good" or "juicy" in it.
imagine her shock when i told her that members of the flock can be df'd for keeping an untidy house.. seriously, i think they were talking about hoarders.
that is even worse!!!!!!!!

I've never known anyone with a filthy house or who didn't bathe regularly who didn't have some sort of emotional or mental problems. I can't believe it could be a disfellowshipping offense.......Some of the most unkempt people I have known were pioneers because they were so worried about FS and Meetings, they had to work nights cleaning and go out in service in the mornings, they didn't have time to shower. Actually, they were some of the most loving and good hearted ones I remember......I'm smiling right now thinking of a few of them that I have known. They are just concerned with what the Watchtower tells them is the most important things.
Pathetic.

I WAS CAUGHT emailing a pdf copy of the New Elders Book
by Smoky ini sent a .pdf to a few friends and one of them betrayed me and forward it to a elder i know, along with the emails of the recipients.
i cant believe i was so naive to think that i can trust someone..stupid.
i have not talked to the "benedict arnold" yet, but hopefully soon.

Nice Save, Smokey!!!
I would imagine your friend who turned you in did so innocently enough.....especially since it was his brother who he mentioned it to. You did a great job playing dumb and offering to delete it.
The Elder probably doesn't want to get involved in a big ordeal anyway, since he's just like everyone else and wouldn't want to have cause trouble for his brother. Not to mention the fact that there is nothing scripturally wrong with what you did.

A Social Security question...
by coffee_black inthis has been nagging at me...and i think that tomorrow i'll call the ss office to find out for sure.. my jw xhusband recently started collecting ss.
he is 62. i was married to him for almost 20 years, and we filed taxes jointly.
we divorced in 1990. i don't think he paid much into ss if at all.. he had his own business.. and worked for others for short periods of time over the years.

He may be eligible if he waited to remarry after his 60th birthday.

The ones I have known have been mostly good hearted and reasonable. Especially the older ones. The younger ones I've known have been the ones who were weird. I remember working for an elder one summer whom I always liked and respected. We drove by a house where a girl from the hall lived with her non-believing husband. He looks over at me and says, (referring to her husband) "He's an arrogant shit isn't he?" I almost peed my pants laughing. I was shocked but completely agreed. Those are the ones who I always liked. They are the balanced ones. They call them like they see them.

It reminds me of an example I gave in a talk when I was a Witness. I said that if someone knocks you down in the parking lot after the meeting, you have reason to be upset. The person who knocked you down has a problem.
If people come to the next meeting later in the week, you are still on the ground in the parking lot complaining about the person who knocked you down after the previous meeting, now YOU have the problem.
Get up and move on. Don't stay on the ground. Find faith again, and teach others how to get up and walk.

Welcome Catherine!!!! You'll find many of us in a similar situation as you. That's what I like about this forum. I often wonder if I have ran into some of these people through the years at a DC or CA as we were growing up.

I think the 1914 generation is far more damaging to the WTS than 1975. While they never said specifically that armageddon would come in 1975, they did say that Jehovah has promised that the Generation alive in 1914 would not pas away before armageddon.
