I remember when I was in my late teens, I went to one of those recording studios they used to have at amusement parks. I paid to sing and have recorded "Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett. In the last chorus of the song it says "It's my own damn fault."
I had a brother threathen to go to the elders about me singing it because it had a curse word in it. Even though I was raised a JW by my parents, my dad used to say that profanity isn't profane if it's used in the proper way and used to express emotion. He pointed to the Hebrew scriptures and how they referred to "dungy" idols. He said it might as well say "Shitty idols." And he referred to (I think it was) Elijah and when he asked the people worshipping the false god if their god has excrement and had to go to the privy. He said he might as well have said "Did he have to take a shit and go to the bathroom?"
JW's are too critical of music. I remember about 1992 or so when they said that modern music has a sexual rhythm and young people know it, that's why they like it. I don't remember where it was written, or said, but I remember talking about it to an elder who disagreed with it.

Thank you Mouthy for your response. I always enjoy reading your posts. It's nice to hear from you again!!
Your friend,

JWFacts- I agree with you that the Christian outlook is far nicer. That is the essence of the Good News, IMO.
NobleHeart- I feel the same way. We were always taught that death is the end, and all you have is "hope" of a resurrection, which in JW speak means you have to hope that you have done enough preaching, enough work for the organization and enough field service time, enough "responsibilities" inthe congregation for Jesus to remember you during the resurrection.
I was always taught that faith was "The assured expectation of things hoped for though not yet beheld" or something like that. It sounds nice, but John has really opened my eyes of what faith really is.
Broken Promises- "93 innings" is a nice way of looking at it. I'm going to use that term!
Snowbird- I do too, I'm going to work on that!
Robbie- You are right, I forgot about that one........You're right he knows the difference. Thank you.
Carla- It's tough to change your viewpoint of death and what it means even for your husband. I still have a hard time with it, but my wife kind of has the same attitude as her G-father. I hope I can develop the same attitude you have!

When the doctor told him that he needed Chemotherapy, he just said to the doctor, "I don't need any of that! I know where I'm going!"
He then said to his wife and the doctor, "I guess I don't need to worry about getting this place behind my ear looked at then.......Well I suppose I should have it cleaned up a little because people are going to see me laying there."
His wife then said, "You don't need it cleaned up, you're going to be laying there in the casket, no one will be able to see it."
They all had a laugh.
John (My step grandfather) is a great old man. He has a sharp mind and great memory. I have always enjoyed talking to him. He can tell you anything you want to know about Indiana high school basketball, and hasn't missed but about 3 games at his local high school since 1960.
My point is this: I never really understood how differently other Christians view death as opposed to Witnesses. As a Witness, I was always (and still am to an extent) afraid of death. Witnesses are concerned with "Did I DO enough to be resurrected?"
How much happier are people who have complete faith like John than others who have to hope they went out in field service enough, got enough hours, went to enough meetings, didn't sin too much, didn't ever grieve the Holy Spirit, etc....etc....etc.....

THE MUFF-N-EGG is GONE!
Hilarious!!! I remember seeing the signs at the CA's (Remember when we used to buy meal tickets?) and I was about 12 at the time. The MUFF-N-EGG was 7 tickets. I couldn't believe my eyes when it dawned on me how dirty that could be taken.

WATCHTOWER WRONGFULL DEATH LAWSUIT - UPDATE
by Lawrence Hughes indear friends,.
i wish to thank everyone who has helped me over the past nine years to fight the watchtower society in court.
as a result of your kind support there has been important legal precedents set, a tremendous amount of media coverage created and numerous magazine articles published to expose the watchtower society and many lives have been saved.

Mr. Hughes,
I am sorry that you will not be able to go forward with your crusade against this ridiculous doctrine of the Watchtower Society.
I am not an expert in Canadian law, but in the U.S., you cannot be a party to a lawsuit unless you have "standing" which means you have to have suffered a loss as a result of the actions of the defendent. Are you sure you can "Sell" your lawsuit? Is there not another attorney who would be willing to take on the case on contingency?
Best wishes,
Drew

Is the spring/summer weather in your area 'odd' this year?
by AK - Jeff inmuch of our spring was very cold, intermingled with the occasionally 'extreme' heat.
so far summer [which started this week] is cooler than any i can recall, but extremely wet and high humidity.
the entire house feels like a wet blanket.. the doom-sayer types are constantly remarking how this must mark 'something' if not the end.

Here in indiana, it's actually kind of chilly today. High of only about 68, overcast and windy. it has rained about 7 of every ten days since March. I have a feeling we're going to go straight into winter without having a hot summer. I NEVER complain about the hot weather because I hate the cold so much.

by Essan in...in return for someone else doing the same with your friends or family?.
this is a hypothetical question to see how many would be interested in something like this and if it could work.

Intel,
I feel for you. Coming here to JWN really helped me get over losing my family and see how to "Fill the gap" as you put it.
There are many of us who were born ins and it was the only life we knew. My point is, you are not alone, and feel free to reach out if you need to talk to someone who really understands. There are many here, including myself, who understand what it's like and the challenges ahead.
That being said, be of good cheer, persevere, and do what is best for you and your child!
Kindest regards,
-Drew
