Is looking through individual browser history part of your job responsibilities? I understand you are in IT, but that doesn't mean you are required to monitor everyone's internet usage does it? If it does, why not tell the MD that this guy is looking at porn (which you did) and then explain to him that this guy is an elder and you need to report it to the congregation. Not for work purposes, but for the congregation. You can do this to get cover from your employer......Then do as Georgie Girl suggests and meet with him and two other elders, and you might ask to do it at your office, and invite the Janitor to give his side, so that the elder in question can make the accusation of "It was the janitor" in front of the janitor.
It seems you have the right and responsibility to do something, but be deliberate in what you do. Protect yourself and your job first.
Just my opinion.

New resolution passed at last service meeting? crazy!!
by finallyfree! inso my ex who has gone back to the wts and is being given the tough love and is questioning whether shes makin the right move.
she told me at the last service meeting that there was a resolution passed that stated that all leftover balances in the congregations accounts would be sent to the society to be used where the need is great, to help out with natural disasters etc and that the funds would be sent back to the congregation if they needed it.. has anyone else who is still in or knows active witnesses heard of this new resolution?
apparently its everywhere in canada as far as i was told .. .

When we had a resolution for a new KH, there were a few that voted against it. One was an elder and his wife who were counseled to not try to voice their displeasure since it could create division within the congregation. We had 3 congregations in one hall at the time, and we were going to build a new KH for two of the congregations and the other one would keep the old hall. We built it NEXT DOOR!!! Literally. It was in 1990 in Lafayette, IN. I thought it was unnecessary especially since we always hear about how much trouble people in other countries have in getting a KH, or how crowded they are. It seemed to me that the poorer brothers in other parts of the world could have used it more than us.........Our old KH was eventually sold to a Greek Orthodox Church......Even though it was dedicated to Jehovah at one time.......

Voting a conscience matter??
by Cynisister inhappy new year one and all!,.
the local elders sent a letter home with my hubby, pretty much stating that after "many" attempts to visit and speak with me, this letter is once again asking to meet because it came to their attention that i voted in the last pres.
election.

That is exactly how I remember it too. It came out that no one should judge someone if they are found to have voted, but someone who votes should understand that they may be accountable to God for the actions of anyone they voted for if they are elected.

Were you given a good beating when you was a JW kid growing up in TRUTH
by Hairyhegoat inmy dad used to use the kettle flex on me and my 2 other brothers, and if he was a bit drunk he would just come up to our room and thump us all in our beds!!
my mom could be heard crying alot when we were growing up in the happy jw religion.
me dad was a lover of the rod as he got a good kicking when he was a kid from his dad!!

My dad was a very good and gentle man, especially as he got older.....but nothing compared to the spanking I would get when I was just a little guy when I would talk during the meetings....or be restless. Dad would take me to the bathroom and whip me, and I really didn't understand what I was doing that was so wrong other than making too much noise........I saw it with others as I grew up too.

I feel terrible for your sister. I think most would agree, that even in Witness households, what your parents are doing is not normal rational behavior.
Could you please elaborate on your Bethel service? What is the general feeling there on things such as "overlapping generation" and the new look of the Governing Body?
I look forward to hearing more from you.
And, by the way: WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!

Things we never told the public.....
by drewcoul ini thought it would be interesting to discuss the things we believed as jw's, but were kind of embarassed about and didn't tell the public about, since it would make us look ridiculous.......... one thing i can think of is the idea that only jw's will make it through armageddon.
everyone else would be destroyed.
i would never tell anyone that even though we all believed it.

One thing I can think of is the idea that only JW's will make it through Armageddon. Everyone else would be destroyed. I would never tell anyone that even though we all believed it. It was too embarassing and ridiculous to tell others about. Who in their right mind would believe such non-sense?
Another thing is the celebration of Birthdays, Mother's Day/ Father's Day, and Thanksgiving. These were holidays and celebrations that no reasonable person who wasn't a witness could possibly believe was wrong. I was always pretty good at pointing out flaws in Xmas, Easter, and Halloween, but the others, I had no believable defense for the Witness position.
How about you? What are some of the teachings that you/we believed but wouldn't dare tell others who weren't Witnesses?

Did the GB become the Pope over JWs in 2010?
by moshe inthe governing body slipped this in the wt for jws this past year- well, they have given the jws legal notice as to the vitual power and authority the gb has claimed over their lives.
will jws bend over and accept another "quantitative easing" up their keester from the old gb geezers of bethel?.

I remember a talk where one of the elders said "If the society tells us to plant our cabbages upside down, then we should plant our cabbages upside down." I remember thinking it was crazy at the time, but it took me 8 more years to get out......

Great Thread!!!
I have long thought that the GB was similar to the Pope. Even though they area group, they act as a single unit, or a collective person. (isn't that what they claim in reference to the "Faithful and Discreet Slave?")
On one hand, they claim to not be infallible. On the other hand, they claim that they speak for Jesus and he is directing his people through them. So, in essence, they are not infallible, but JW's must treat them as if they are. I have NEVER had a witness answer this question: If the GB and WT society are not infallible, why must they be treated and followed as if they are infallible? Just a lot of stumbling and stuttering when you ask them.
I must say, there is much I miss about the JW's, and much that I admire and love about my former JW friends and brothers......(and I do miss them)....but the GB has obviously made themselves the Pope of the JW's.

Strange, Offensive , Weird Statements on DFing Offenses in Elders Manual
by flipper inyou really can't make this stuff up.
but an organization like the wt society bent on controlling virtually every aspect of the typical jehovah's witness life - would make this up to keep their control through the use of fear and guilt.
so- i thought i'd share what i thought was the strangest, most offensive, weird language dealing with what the wt society calls " disfellowshipping offenses " .

Could perhaps an elder or former elder answer this question....... Why would a woman need to report being raped to the elders? If a woman were raped and didn't report it, and it was later found out, how would that be handled normally?
I cannot for the life of me figure out why the WTS thinks a woman who is raped (or a man for that matter) would need to report it. If it were a child reporting being molested, they claim they need two witnesses. I don't get it. could someone answer what the WT viewpoint is on this?
