  Can anyone tell me any narrative of having successfully avoided Baptism while being raised JW?

  I don't know if I have anything relevant to say. I have been away from the JWs for decades but I was raised from birth as a JW. I was never baptized. I didn't want to be and my parents didn't make me. I don't know exactly why. I completely left when I was 15. I can't think of any other child my age that was not baptized. It was brought up several times by the elders but my parents did not encourage me in that direction. I don't know. I was lucky.

  I'm not sure what difference it would have made in my life if I had been though.

  What makes a "good Jehovah's Witness"??

  so, i have been thinking...what is the formula or recipe for the "perfect jw"?.

  here are a few points i thought of...please feel free to add!.

  always dress in the jw manner...no variation in clothing / hair styles / facial hair.

  Develop strong skills of lying to yourself. This will spill over into lying to your children even though you convince yourself that you are doing the "right" thing.

  Take lots of anti-anxiety medication. A few alcoholic beverages most evenings will help also.

  Become a different person to eveyone in your life. This will require keeping all your friends and acquaintances seperate and never seeing them at the same time. Your most holy personality will be around your JW family members. They can't know about your political opinions or that you like to see R-rated movies or that you attended a church wedding of one of your in-laws.

  1975 end prediction

  does anyone have the article written by the wt saying that the end would come in 1975?.

  how did people back then come to this year?

  i need this information becuase i was told, this was never literally written by the wt in any publication.. thanks.

  I lived through this time. I was 18 in 1975. I don't know if I can answer your questions. But I know that it was almost universally believed that the WTS was telling us that the fall of 1975 would be Armageddon. The date I remember was September 9 or September 6 . I can't remember now. I do not believe that you will find this written down anywhere. But is was widely believed and no one from the WTS refuted this belief. The Congregation Overseers and the Circuit Overseers and District Overseers ENCOURAGED this belief. Everything built into an absolute frenzy.

  It is so obviously a lie......now

  once the spell is broken, one you take a deep fresh breath outisde of the watchtower camp, the amazingly obvious realisation becomes clear.... of course this is a lie, of course this is ridiculous!

  you find you have memories of really believing the claims and promises, but it seems like another life, another experience.

  it seems so incredibly false once you leave and it is very difficult to belive you even once accepted it!

  Yes shame on the WT society, but also shame on us, on the people that taught it us ......and the quicker people say enough is enough and leave, the better for many. If you have kids in the religion, really there is no reason good enough on earth to keep them in it... get them out before they lose another day.

  Awful experience: I threw my WT library out!

  yes, i threw my wt library out: my recycle bin was full.

  even if i had imagined this experience to be similar to a prisoner getting rid of his chains, this was not so.. instead, it brought up all the memories i had shared with my family where we were excited about the release of the revelation book; the clear feeling of ultimate knowledge when we showed the live forever book, the questions i had practiced with my family in the organized book, my cousins who got baptized as well.

  somehow, all i could think of was only the good memories i had shared with my family and almost cried about it.. and then, i started to think of the division, the hatred and the pain that became prevalent in my family as some were disfellowshipped and thus, ostracized.

  My mother died 6 years ago. Part of cleaning out her house was throwing away 25+ years of JW literature. Watchtowers and Awakes in binders, all those colorfully bound books. ETC, etc. This was stuff from 1953 to approximately 1978. There were probably some publications from before 1953.

  I also found it to be a very emotional experience. It brought up a lot of negative feelings. Not really any positive ones.

  Ironically, that very same day the JWs were out "in service" in my mother's neighborhood. It was strange.

  my leaving the organization was not because i lost my faith, but i left because of my faith.

  Taking my sister to church this Sunday!!!

  so yesterday i stopped by my sisters home and decided to just hang out and shoot the breeze... she was telling me that since she has stopped going to the kingdom hall (the last 9 months) she still looks for things to do on sunday.

  she feels she should go and do something and she likes the idea of church.

  it seems fun and will giove her a place to meet people.

  It sounds to me like you are doing well. Go on Sunday and have a good time. You might want to try a non-denominational church also. Have fun! Many churches are NOTHING like the JWs.

  When you refuse to protect your loved ones because a leader says so you diminish yourself and destroy your family and are no longer worthy of respect. In plain terms this is the only life we have..........no one should throw it away over a false teaching made up by ambitous people.

  This is so true.

  Yes, the Jehovah's Witnesses are a dangerous cult. They destroy families. They destroy sel-respect. They destroy your inner being.

  i am off to the circuit assembly tomorrow.

  not really looking forward to it as it is the first one i will go to after finding out many things on this forum.

  since the last assembly i have read coc, in search of christian freedom, and some of the gentile times reconsidered.

  "Jehovah's Witnesses are the Happiest People on Earth" That one used to really puzzle me even as a child. I didn't see it. You'd be at an assembly and everybody would be sitting around miserable.
