I love how the JW reassured you that you were an RV.

So a Witness finally came to my door. It could have went better
by sabastious inhis name was herbert, that's all i knew about him and that he was one of jehovah's witnesses.
the knock came at 6 in the morning and i was wearing very little.
i looked out the peek hole in my door to see a single middle aged man sporting a big stupid grin standing outside my front door.

What's Your Status? Are You Technically Still A JW?...
by minimus inare you disfellowshipped, disassociated, active, inactive???
?.

Inactive...an elders wife recently visited and said she knows things "must be up in the air" for me, whatever that means. I'll play the depression card and see what happens. The JWs are pretty lazy in this area.

New Rumor: Downsizing Circuits/Assemblies
by metatron inheard a new rumor that:.
the borg is going to phase out big district assemblies - so they can fit 'em in assembly halls.. they will reduce the size of circuits.
they will synchronize c.o.

I hope so. I hate living in a convention city...it makes sense for people to go to conventions closer to home rather than drive 8 hours for "spiritual nourishment."

Memorial
by TOTH inthe memorial is back and i know i am going to be harassed into taking my father in law to it.
i refused last year and i have every intention of not going this year too.
it is just so frustrating to me that he has a pioneer for a supposed wife who can take all the other sisters to doctor appointments and shopping and gets high praise for this by the congregation even as she neglects her sick husband.

What a tough spot you're in TOTH. I'd feel bad if he was the one who called. Hopefully you can either take your FIL so he isn't in pain, or maybe help him arrange for someone else who can take him so he doesn't have to go early or tag along with his wife.

by wasted injust a ?
as ive got cobe and my daughters fil coming round nxt wk to grill me, first time 2 of the blighters have turned up together so im expecting the inevitable.

I lied and said I still believed it was "the truth" just so the elders would stop coming by. Most of the time I avoid them when they come to the door, and if they catch me by surprise I keep it short and try and be friendly. They aren't too persistent anymore, and just think we're spiritually weak, even though we missed the memorial last year.
You have every right to tell them whatever you please. They have no control over you. You can tell them you're just discouraged, depressed, or have been busy. They just try and reach out around memorial time, I wouldn't worry about them questioning you too much. You could also tell them that you need to keep it brief and don't invite them in.

My Daughters House Burned Down
by Babyruth inmy daughters house burned down and her and her husband and three children got out with just the jammies on their back.
when her husband called his parents ( dad is elder and both parents are regular pioneers) the next morning, they told him they were sorry that they were unable to come and help as 'big wig' brother, head of the branch had just died and they were going to be with his grieving wife and son!?!
it's been a week now and they are still a no-show as they are too busy with their bible studies and service to even see their son and three grandchildren.

That is so sad the inlaws haven't come to see them or help them out. I'm happy you're able to support them during this difficult time, and that everyone got out safe. I hope they had insurance. I'm sending you a PM to see if I can help them out.

Did You See A Lot Of Drinking Among JW's???
by minimus ini did!
most jws that i know of love to drink.. interestingly, i noticed the heaviest drinkers were bethelites..
-
Nice_Dream
That's all they seemed to do. My worldly friends didn't drink in high school, but my JW friends and I did. Some of my parents friends seemed to have major drinking problems, but still pioneered and were elders. Our local needs talks were often about alcohol consumption.

Have they phoned you to arrange a pick up? I think it is rude of her to assume you will be available, considering you weren't planning on going to the Memorial. She needs to respect your boundaries and focus on the well being of her ill husband instead of her outward appearance. If she wants to pick up others, she could drop off her husband first so he isn't inconvenienced, or arrange a ride for him with someone else who was planning on going. You're not being an a-hole.
