my dad recently found out i wasn't coming to meetings and going out in field service.
he found an excuse to get me alone in his car and just lit into me about it.
he said that if i'm not going out in service that i'm not one of jehovah's witnesses and the brothers won't be able to trust me when the time comes to go undercover due to being attacked by the authorities.
Remember when they stressed the importance of book study groups because we might have to start meeting in secret? Now they've eliminated that meeting night!
I also remember a convention 10-15 years ago when they said "it's not a matter of if, but WHEN we're going to be persecuted." Nothing happened.
That sucks your Dad believes it so much. I'm not looking forward to when the inlaws find out about us, I'm sure they'll freak out too.
on 4/6, the poster orphan annie posted about her experiences with jw's and her ill husband.
unfortunately, her husband died monday, and she is feeling very sad.

as some of you who read my previous thread know, my matrix moment has passed, and i am on my way out.
i am trying very hard to fade slowly in hopes that my wife will wake up, and maybe my family too.
the problem is, my conscience still works well, and i don't want to go out in if service and tell people things that i know aren't true.
I used to put a zero with a sad face on my time slip. After a few months, the elders would phone and see if I had any time, and I would sadly say no and they left me alone.
I always hated service and would just tag along on return visits, or do drive bys. But when I had my matrix moment, I told my husband that I couldn't preach something I wasn't 100% sure of and I wasn't going out anymore. He went out a few times by himself and then stopped too.

My friend was counseled by an elder for wearing shorts he considered "too short" when he stopped by unannounced at her house. She didn't even have the freedom to wear whatever she wanted in her own home!

Ok, so my inlaws now have to drive 7 hours in their meeting clothes in 30-40 degree C (86-100 F) in order to be dignified? Or stop somewhere so they can change before they check into the hotel? What a bunch of garbage.
We also had a special needs part about not wearing flip flops or other "distracting, noisy sandals" or noisy jewelry.
I've had a couple people apologize to me years later for being mean to me during my school years. And I've apologized to my best friend and sister for shunning them.
And my Mom recently apologized for raising me as a JW which was nice.
