One of my old friends had "Been there, brainwashed, never again" for her religious views. I thought that was pretty brazen! Now I agree.

OMG, people are so gullible! Maybe you should put 'Satanist' on there and see if they'll still contact you, lol.

My JW wife wanted to throw a costume party. Any advice.
by garyneal into all active and former witnesses (elders especially), i have a question.. .
she indicated that she wanted to include her witness friends as well.
however, given the fact that we are in the month of october and costume parties in this month are associated with halloween, she did not know how to throw a costume party without making it look like a halloween party.

It depends on how anal the elders are in the hall, and how easily some can be "stumbled." We used to have dress up parties in the hall, but the elders put an end to them...even for the kids! "Decade" parties were "glorifying an era" , and "tacky parties" could be mean to people who dress tacky.
One sister successfully had a "Bible" party where kids could dress up as Bible characters and play Bible games.
Good luck! When I was young I went to lots of JW dress-up parties (in the summer) and they were fun.

I think your gut feeling is right on target, and I would listen to what your gut is telling you. Your BF's family means a lot to him (spending 3 or 4 days a week there! wow!), and he's not going to give that up. Would he still spend that much time with his parents once you were married? That could cause a problem. Would your children spend lots of time at his parent's house too? That would make me hesitant to commit.
I just left this religion after being born into it. I'm in my late 20s! My husband is still kinda "in," but he agreed that our child would grow up neutral and not go to meetings. This makes me comfortable. If he pressed for our child to go to meetings, I would consider putting up a huge fight.
Sorry about your situation. Take your time, and listen to your gut.

Free lectures on the New Testament, online from Yale College
by moshe ini have been watching the youtube videos about the new testament( also covers the gospel of thomas) and i find them very enlightening.
perhaps former jws can stop worrying what jehovah/jesus might do to them, they will be able to stop worrying about who has the true religion and find out, is aguest a sage or something else?.
also, these videos might help an ex-jw find a new way to get a spouse out of the kh, without directly attacking the wt organization.

Thank you Moshe. I enjoy learning about the canon from a non-WT source.

If you have kids who are being exposed to JW beliefs
by Libelle init's becoming clearer and clearer that i need to muster some sort of strategy for countering the mr's indoctrination of the kids.
now some of these kids are stepkids, so that makes it a bit hairier.
but for our youngest, i will need to think about how to teach her other things too.

I think that's really cool that you're a pagan! Growing up a JW, I felt like I was left out of everything. Perhaps you could have a solstice party in the winter if your husband would allow that, or create another special "family day" so the stepchildren could participate as well. My husband doesn't mind if I "celebrate the seasons," so that's a way to have special times with your family without actually celebrating Christmas or Easter.
Just seeing you not go to meetings (and their Mom for the stepkids), might be enough to crack the children's foundation so the kids ask questions when they're older. I always wondered why my friends from school, and all my relatives were going to have to die because they weren't JWs but were still good people.
Sending you a PM.
