I recently learned this when reading a Children's Bible to my son. It has a picture of Judge Deborah, who is described as a "strong leader." I tried to remember how this story was depicted in the My Book of Bible Stories, and instead of showing a strong woman leading the way it has a lovely picture of a bleeding man with a peg through his head.

Male Domination = No Judge Deborah
by metatron ini had to laugh at today's watchtower, when it spoke of "judge barak".. it's this sort of thing that tells you that their "scholarship" is non-existent.
the record in judges clearly states that 'deborah was judging israel' - oh, and it repeats the point because 'israel came to her to be judged'.
..... brave barak told her he wasn't going into battle unless she went with him.. no judge deborah.

Your pictures will look nicer, the Kingdom Hall atmosphere and lighting are horrible.
"Wordly" people in attendance won't ask you why the man giving the talk was so weirdly focused on condemning confetti and other pagan rituals.
You might actually like most of the people in attendance.
If you're worried about getting DF'd, how about a destination wedding or elope? I wish I did!

First Aid @ the D.C.s -- could direction from Society cause them a lawsuit?
by tresdecu ini posted about something similar 3 years ago when i first joined.
even though my attendance hasn't been great the last year or so, i was asked to help my bro in law in first aid this year at the convention.
to make a long story short, the society has printed instructions for attendants to not cal 911 for an emergency.

Right, I think I remember hearing about this. They didn't want too many people calling 911, and sometimes an ambulance was called that wasn't needed and it was an expense. If they are so concerned about money, they should have properly trained First Aid attendants there, not trainees.
I know 3 brothers who were Ambulance attendants by profession, and because they weren't "spiritual enough," they were not asked to be first aid attendants at the conventions. They even offered and were declined. Instead, young JWs with little experience were in charge. I remember going to the First Aid section and got a deer in headlights response from the young adults working there.
Fortunately, I think family members of someone in a medical emergency would call 911 instead of relying on the attendants...at least I hope so!

Threats from the JW mafia (subtle threats)
by thecrushed inmy dad recently found out i wasn't coming to meetings and going out in field service.
he found an excuse to get me alone in his car and just lit into me about it.
he said that if i'm not going out in service that i'm not one of jehovah's witnesses and the brothers won't be able to trust me when the time comes to go undercover due to being attacked by the authorities.

Remember when they stressed the importance of book study groups because we might have to start meeting in secret? Now they've eliminated that meeting night!
I also remember a convention 10-15 years ago when they said "it's not a matter of if, but WHEN we're going to be persecuted." Nothing happened.
That sucks your Dad believes it so much. I'm not looking forward to when the inlaws find out about us, I'm sure they'll freak out too.

My son was murdered today
by truman ini have been on this site daily, almost from its beginning, since i left the jws in 2001, but i have been more of a reader than a poster, as you can see from my post count.
i know few here know me, although i know many of you through reading your posts.
maybe it is not right to ask for support, when i generally stay quietly in the background of this forum, but i want only to speak a human misery of the deepest kind.

No can I get out of going in service?
by Captain Obvious inas some of you who read my previous thread know, my matrix moment has passed, and i am on my way out.
i am trying very hard to fade slowly in hopes that my wife will wake up, and maybe my family too.
the problem is, my conscience still works well, and i don't want to go out in if service and tell people things that i know aren't true.

I used to put a zero with a sad face on my time slip. After a few months, the elders would phone and see if I had any time, and I would sadly say no and they left me alone.
I always hated service and would just tag along on return visits, or do drive bys. But when I had my matrix moment, I told my husband that I couldn't preach something I wasn't 100% sure of and I wasn't going out anymore. He went out a few times by himself and then stopped too.
