First off why would you tell them: "I told him that I don't want to be in the religion anymore." I'm just wondering? I have found (several family members confessed to our local elders the same and they were DF'd) it's not helpful. I'd just walk away, change address or hang holiday stuff out, get new cell number...don't take calls, just ignore the whole mess. If you have family in the religion don't give them details (I've found the elders try to get other family members to put the pressure on). AVOID THE ELDERS. Good luck be strong my friend.

Im 38 and love dressing up...never did as a kid. I used to sneak a peek out the front window and watch all my school friends play and trick or treat. I was always wanting to be involved. So now, after I'm too old to trick or treat..my husband and I hand out candy and then go to the local bar and join in the costume contest. It's a blast. Just have fun with it. If my mother knew she'd be sooo angry with me. I just do not tell her. I can't wait to have a baby then I can dress him/her up and knock on the door...I suppose I'll live through them. lol

One time I was forced to go to the assembly in Yuba City, CA after a looooonnnngggg car ride and once the assembly started. The guy that introduces the speaker had the greatest, soothing voice. Almost like Barry White or listening to the announcer on KKSF radio. It was deep and sloooowww. Sad to say, but I couldn't wait for the speaker to stop speaking so I could here this guys voice again. Sadly after lunch break he was "replaced." Some of the people attending were complaining about his voice being "Too sexual..it's too intense." I think that's why he was removed. After the stupid people's comments...I told my mom I was sick and waited out in the car the rest of the program.

What's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?
by A.Fenderson inwhat's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?.
my personal recommendation: synecdoche, new york.
it's one of those movies that words fail utterly to capture--which really is the hallmark of a good movie, i suppose.

My favorite is: "To kill a mockingbird." It's just a sweet black and white movie about young kids. Another movie that I also love is "Fight Club" with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. With both movies I read the book. The book is always better. But the Fight Club movie was just amazing to me, it made sense if you look deep at what they are really talking about...consumers...buy this...how we all conform to society. Love those kind of movies.

We were young JW's and married at 18...yikes! When I got divorced, living alone at 35 years old freeked me out. I had never lived alone before. That sounds so stupid as I type this out. I kept my front room light on 24/7 and I hated it. I suppose I was so used to being with someone I forgot how to be on my own. As time went on, I loved it. No one told me to do the dishes or pick up my socks. (my ex was a major clean freak). Living alone is great...I loved it. A girlfriend of mine decided to rent a place just two doors down and it was fun. Give it time, you will adjust. I never wanted a roomate because of the horror stories. lol. If your a girl, be careful who you tell that you live alone. A lot of creepy weird guys out there. When asked I always lied and said my dad lives with me.

How do I cut off pioneering?
by bottleofwater ini'm 19 and trying to get a job.
my dad won't pay for my college if i don't pioneer.. if i get a job, i can't pioneer while in college.. i can supposedly work and study, but i need a good way to get rid of pioneering (it was never my idea in the first place - blame the parents with their social coercion).. if i stop pioneering, i will be told by my parents that i don't love jehovah (not that i care what they say).. how can i do this as painlessly as possible?.
i want to move out someday and have enough money to do this.. by the way, if you read my started topics you will see my situation in more detail and that my dad is the coordinator of the boe..

Do you really want your parents paying for college and adding more guilt to your list (like not pioneering)? What about renting a room from someone that's not a JW? Rent should be reasonable...I guess it depends where you live, it's a room. humm...I seriously hate the guilt thing. If it was me, I'd rent a room and live like everyone else and waitress/waiter or get a construction job save money to pay for school yourself. I knew a lot of people that did that. Yes, they lived off of mac & cheese but doesn't everyone at 19. Good luck I really wish you the best.
p.s. don't let guilt trips make you do things that you wouldn't do in the first place. Unless it's like "You gotta visit grandma before she dies." lol that's an okay guilt trip. Not the "you gotta pioneer, Jehovah won't love you."

I never understood why JW's did the whole shunning thing. It doesn't solve anything, it just makes people more psycho. If someone gets DF'd to me they obviously need love, friendship and compassion not shunning. Sounds like the opposite what 'brotherly love' is.
