  when those of you became an elder, or even perhaps a person of responsibility in the congregation, what did you become aware of that shocked or suprised you behind closed doors, out of the sight of the rest of the congregation, that you would not have known if it were not for your position?.

  1) The most shocking thing was that I was appointed???????
  
  2) Next: shortly after my appointment three other elders formed a committee and dealt with a "situation" without informing the rest of the body. Turns out one of the elders wives was doing the horizional buggy with a ministerial servant. They hushed it up pretty quick. The dancers lost their priviliges but the elder who obviously was not presiding over his household in a fine manner is still an elder today. I was just a kid they didn't need my help to handle things.

  to all those who have in some way left the organization (be it disfellowshipping, disassociating, dis-whatever):.

  come now, i know the amount of people who "realized that wt doctrine was in serious error" and politely handed in their letter of resignation has to be very small.

  the level of bitterness and hostility towards the closest-to-what's-biblical organization has to develop some other way.. what did you do?

  What I did was:
  
  I sat in the audience in Vancouver BC in 1969 and heard the speaker say that Armageddon would be over and Christ fully enthroned by 1975
  
  Turns out he was lying.
  
  In the Watchtower of January 1983 they printed that the separating work started in 1914. It is also in the Live Forever Book
  
  In the first week of September 1995 they printed:
  
  For some time now Jehovahs Witnesses have believed that the separating work started in 1914. After further study we have figured out that that Matthew chapter 25 will not be fulfilled until Christ comes with all his angels.
  
  They printed and the CO's and DO's preached umpteen dozen other lies during the 26 years I gave them.

  i know when it comes to pedophiles we are young girls or teenage girls who have been molested by men.. i know of 2 cases where a teenage boy is being seduced by an older woman in the congregation.. .

  i know of one when i was a jw in my congregation.

  she was 24 and he was 15 1/2 - 16 when they meet.

  A few years back here a 30 something women cornered and married a boy just after he graduated for highschool...
  
  In the early 70's I know of a 30+ somthing man marrying about a 12 year old girl in Portland Oregon. I think they had to get the permission of the governor...
  

  What I really wanted to know was "WHERE WERE THESE KIDS'S PARENTS"

  Yes all four were Jehovah's Witnesses.

  A 14 year old is able (with a little help) to call the battered womens shelter, or the police. No sane judge would make her go back to a home like that. Unfortunately not all Judges are sane. At least make sure she has money for a phone or a phone card.

  Sounds like you are kind of figuring out what thousands of victums around the world are saying.

  The victums know exactly by who and where the coverups happened and are continuing.

  No amount of new rules can undo the crimes done in the past but that doesn't mean the past criminals should get off scott-free. Past crimes must be addressed so that future predators will know there is no place to hide. Not even behind an organization.

  Individuals who shared in the coverups must be held accountable for the additional victums caused by the coverups

  Those of us not involved in the actual lawsuits can help the victums by being understanding, considerate, and supportive.

  I can see that you are trying to play the part of the "voice of reason" but you are actually doing is implying that a lot of victums are liers and that in some ways is just as bad as the original rape.

  I can understand the WT trying to protect themselves. If they admit their crimes they will pay hundreds of victums millions of dollars.

  I can even understand some of the predators trying to say that what the WT did was the right thing. When the covers are pulled some of them are going to jail. Especially if the Attorny General gets his hands on the Watchtower's records.

  I cannot imagine why someone who is not a member of the GB, and never participated in a coverup, would want to cause further hurt to the victums....

  but they say bad assocaiation spoils useful habits, so what the -----.

  It is obvious that you have the same point of view that the GB of JW's Has.
  

  The problem starts when elder one is a drunken blabbermouth that likes Playboy Magazine, elder two is a drunk that doesn't pay his bills or go in service and the third elder's son rapes the tiny daughter of a single sister. The third elder has the goods on the first two and tells them that he will lower the boom if they do not go along in protecting his son. The sister finally after being harrassed continuely for months goes to the local authorities. The elders disfellowship her for something that they don't even have to tell the publishers. At that point no one will talk to her so no one finds out about the rapes. The rapest is only 17 years old so the court procedings are virtually secret.

  The society is fully to blame when someone finds out and calls the DO and the legal department, (in this case Mr H....... ) He goes to that congretation, works in service with the rapest. Makes sure to use him for prayers and such and sees to it that the rapest does not lose any priviliages..

  The sister stays disfellowshiped, the publishers remain un-warned and the rapest racks up 5 more victums ......

  Some feel that when the DO got there he should have removed the whole body, disfellowshiped the rapest and apoligized to the sister and the congregation.
  I know where the society gets their point of view.... but I figure you must be a contortionest if you also have your head that far up your ass.

  i have to say i admire everyone who was strong enough to leave the wt organization.

  alone these horrible stories about armageddon must scare the hell out of everyone who was brought up with it or who was in the org for several years.

  hell even to me they sound really frightning and i don't believe in this nonsense.. secondly you loose most of all of your friends!.

  I was fortunate. Most of my family was never in or had left before me. The few that are still in are so in denial that they hate and fear me like I am their worst enemy..... My wife and children and their spouses all left together. We can get along nicely without the ones that are still in............ I think now the important part is to be there for the rest as they come stumbling out. They are just blinded like I was. They will probably need lots of help.
