Tell them that your husband would be able to assign them volunteer work to help in areas of immediate need and would they like to get a group together to do this. Throw back the same guilt responses that they use on you.

Earthquakes and that 'sign'
by Aussie Oz inwhen i was a jw, my perception was that the end times would feature an increase of earthquakes.
whether the increase was officialy taught i do not know as i can find no reference specific in the cd library.
so correct me if i had it wrong!

When you look back at the previous article of 12/1/93 Natural Disastors - A sign of the times they indicate that there has been an increase in the number of earthquakes and use several sources to support this. They present the argument that it isn't just because reporting and recording has improved.
The article of 12/1/93 that you quote says that earthquakes have not been more violent in recent times.
My memory of talks and articles always stated that earthquakes had increased and it was a sign that we were living in the times of the end.
As far as I am aware that article of May 2011 that you quote does show a new thinking on this, as you say, they talk about earthquakes being greater. Thanks for pointing it out as once again they seem to have presented new light. This would probably be because they have carried out better research on the matter and considered scientific evidence with less bias. They have realized that they can no longer claim that earthquakes have been on the increase in this past 100 years with any credibility.

July 15th WT out - Coming out Swinging at Apostates Hard
by LostGeneration inthis is one of the most aggressive watchtowers i think i have ever read.. four study articles on not "following the crowd" not following unrealities(page 13) not following false teachers, meaning apostates of course(p 15).
avoiding false teachers means "refusing to read their literature, watch tv programs that feature them, examine their web sites, or add comments to their blogs.
(para 7, pg 16).

It's as if they have come out with the idea that they are fighting a war against the apostates. Instead of providing the R&F with spiritual weapons to defend themselves they say shut your eyes and block your ears.

Minimus said
My mom's sister died yesterday. In my mother's tears she said to me, "If I had to make a choice of never talking to you again because they told me I couldn't, or dying now, I'd rather die now!"
Isn't that TERRIBLE????
Oh Minimus that brought tears to my eyes. It is terrible and terrible all round, from both sides. To think they do this to families all the time, the number of families this has affected are great.
There are no winners, just losers.

Watchtower stance in Australia - a few thoughts to ponder
by James_Slash in"we don't typically work with children....so [any mandatory child protection] law doesn't apply to us" - watchtower spokesman.. if this is the case, then how have so many children been abused?.
also, in james 1:27 it instructs 'elders' to "look after orphans and widows" - how can they do this when they "do not specifically work with children"?.
thoughts anyone?.

Interested one, I believe it may be a quote from a guy who is launching a court case at the moment, there's a thread on it. The guy got a call from an elder who was having a go at him about the case and made that remark to him.
That comment in itself - 'we don't typically work with children' is damning in itself for a religious organization and I can appreciate why you would wonder where it comes from.

My Study Conductor Jumped Ship - Any Possible Explanations?
by InterestedOne inmy study conductor has informed me that he & his wife are switching to a foreign language congregation that is far away from the territory they live in (it will involve a lot of driving back & forth).
because he is switching congregations, he said he will not have the energy to devote to my study and recommended another brother who could take over, and i have met him.
however, this change happened simultaneously with a decision i have made.

Having followed your posts a little there is no question that you would be a very hard study student for them and it would take all their effort to stick it out. They would need to be very intelligent and confidently know their beliefs inside and out. You would be proving to be a test on anyone who took on the challenge.
It wouldn't be surprising if your instructer has had enough and has found it too draining, if not a little bit disheartening. The best way to deal with that is to get out of the study somehow. Nine months is not a long time and probably too early to be dropping a study, if he didn't think you were worth continuing with he wouldn't have handed you over to another instructor. It is probably likely that your new instructer will be more knowledeable than him so it would be interesting if you had one or two studies with him.
From what I know, it was appropriate for a study instructer to advise the study that they didn't feel they were progressing and getting anywhere and spend the whole of the study discussing what you were looking for, what you had already recieved from the study so far and what you were expecting from future studies. A change of book may also be suggested.
I really think Black Sheep's comments are right on target.
You didn't mention whether your instructer had kids but as you mentioned his wife, I assume not. It could be that he is moving to the other congregation so that they both can learn the language better with the hope of being posted overseas in the future. They do encourage others to learn another language with this in mind and he may have been specifically asked.
You would have given him a lot to think about and only time will tell how he has taken it.
In regards to his comments
"1 Cor 2:14 which says "But a physical man does not receive the things of the spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot get to know [them], because they are examined spiritually."
As you would already know they use this as an entrapement. That is they want you to think that you aren't being spiritual and therefore don't understand and if you were then you would accept it unquestionably. Sprituality does not defy logic or understanding, they can go hand in hand. They also make it seem as if there are some secrets that can only be unlocked and understood if we are more spiritual but this doesn't mean that we will understand doctrines and beliefs because of spirituality. It is our understanding of God himself and an appreciation that he is the almighty in all things that we grow to appreciate as we become more spiritual.

THE WT DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU OR YOUR FEELINGS. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK OR HOW YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE NOW! THE WT IS GONNA LABEL YOU AS A EVIL SELF CENTERED APOSTATE! CAN WE JUST MOVE ON FROM THIS SHIT AND GO BACK TO THE PURE APOSTACY!
This forum is great for expressing a wide range of views and the discussions about six screens can help individuals decide if that interests them or not. Personally I've taken a lot of the comments written on here about six screens as a warning. Those comments are made by more sane people who have a more realistic perspective.
Regardless of whether the WT thinks we are apostates or not, it's not for them to judge but I wouldn't want to be promoting pure apostacy.
It is surprising to see someone like Barbara Anderson wanting to use six screens as another tool in her public awareness campaign but that is her choice. But just as she is using six screens, they are using her too and I bet the author of this thread is laughing his head off as his ego continues to grow.

May 15th WT - WT society uses Fear & Guilt to Prevent Materialism in JW's
by flipper inonce again , i couldn't resist sharing this wt study article from this issue.
it was just too good, or bad - depending on your perspective.
you will see the use of fear and guilt in this information - laying it on witnesses heavy as the title says " christian families - " keep ready " indicating armageddon is so close - so don't get wrapped up in materialism.. right from the get-go in the 1st paragraph fear tactics are used .

What I've noticed a lot in the articles of late is the lack of any sense of balance. They may have basic principles in mind, such as in this case that materialism can be a danger, but then go way overboard with the concept. It doesn't help people to be extreme and can lead to some bad decisions being made, which has already been seen by those JWs that become too caught up with doing what the GB says.
