Only one real point per WT study...
by JW_Rogue inhas anyone else noticed that in the wt study articles the main point they want you to remember is always somewhere around paragraph 11-14?
it's like a formula.
intro and overview paragraphs 1-4. basic wt stuff 5-8 (not controversial).

A big congratulations FullTimeStudent.
I see that you did some studies on the Dead Sea Scrolls.
I was wondering, since the KJV was written before these were discovered, what affect, if any they have on that version?
If you're too busy celebrating to answer, I completely understand. :) -

Slidin Fast - Did I understand correctly that they require a budget cut of 25% over 5 years? That is a monster cut back, in the commercial world a 2% loss in profits create a stock market run, 25% is an existential threat.
That's what it sounds like- they require a budget cut of 25% over the 5 yrs so that by the fifth year they are at the point of reducing spending by 25% for that year and going forward. It appears that they are expecting that they (the Branch's) will be spending 25% less by the fifth year than they are now.
For the 2016 year they asked that they spend 10% less for that year than previously so each year following will require more cuts in order to achieve the goal of 25% by the fifth year. It's odd because we have seen financials for the Canadian, British and Australian Branch's. They aren't making losses but are sending a lot to HQ. Either HQ is badly in debt or they want to stockpile (siphon off) more money by having the Branch's spend less and sending more to HQ.

Cofty--Can You Help This JW Lady?
by Atlantis incofty, this jw lady sent us a message with a question on a point she is trying to verify.. .
her question: (isn't the watchtower teaching a form of "evolution" right now and my jw family just don't realize it?).
hold on sandra, grampa (atlantis), says that (cofty) is pretty much an expert on evolution and can answer your question more accurately than we can.

I've just been reading through the latest Watchtower- September 2018 and they have this as a footnote
It is reasonable to conclude that some Armageddon survivors will be disabled. When on earth, Jesus cured people with “every sort of infirmity,” thus giving us a preview of what he will do, not for resurrected ones, but for Armageddon survivors. (Matt. 9:35) Resurrected ones will no doubt have whole, sound bodies.
It seems that this is new light and rather than evolution being involved, there will be a miraculous healing of physical imperfections. If resurrected ones are going to have perfect bodies then they must also be perfect beings, both physically and mentally. But the footnote seems to only be discussing physical bodies. It makes me wonder what they think it is to be imperfect but since they simply come up with whatever they want or whoever's thoughts can convince the current Governing Body the only conclusion is that they can't make up their minds about anything, especially when they are simply speculating in the first place.
The Watchtower 82 12/1 states
Those who physically have died and will be resurrected on earth during the Millennium will still be imperfect humans. Also, those surviving the war of God will not be made perfect and sinless immediately. As they continue faithful to God during the Millennium those who will have survived on earth evidently will gradually progress toward perfection. Hence, as long as persons in both categories are not free of inherited sin, they will in a sense be “dead” (and could not yet be fully alive) in God’s sight.—Luke 9:60; Ephesians 2:1.

Faulty Decrees Conceal Criminals
by Bill Covert injust finished barbara on a&e she quoted from her article "faulty decrees conceal criminals" posted on watchtower documents.
you folks should take a couple minutes and read the article.
her quote was that lev.5:1 required a witness to a crime to report the crime to police.

Her research revealed that Ray Franz was the writer who misapplied Lev.5:1which was a surprise to me.
I can't find any evidence in her article that Ray Franz was the one who misapplied the scripture and do not understand why there is this focus on him having done so. Is there a reason for this?
Even if Ray Franz had written the first article instructing JWs to inform on each other based on Leviticus 5:1, he was using a flawed bible interpretation to begin with so why blame him?

Edgar (the Crow) Colludes with the *Russians*
by TerryWalstrom ina couple of years ago, sitting at starbucks outside patio, i became "aware" of a feathered mafioso i eventually named edgar.so weird and varied have been our adventures, i began writing about them.this is only the latest installment in what i like to call: the edgar chronicles_______edgar colludes with the rooskiesi sit carefully selecting which words to use--there are pitfalls to my tale.2 chinese ladies are problematic for a writer who is an olde white male.what if i accidentally stereotype?
i dare not!with your kind permission, i will change the sex and country of origin of my 2 characters to avoid going off the rails.instead, this story is transformed into 2 *russian* guys!
that you crow.

I have to agree with them. Suggesting that male Russians are only interested in buffets is racist. It's probably sexist as well.

It should be as simple as asking the HH if they can make a note. However, it opens up the option of the HH saying no as they don't want a return visit.
JWs have been told to record notes that go beyond names and addresses to help remind them of discussion points to make on their return visit, although in some places I think they've been told to refrain from this due to laws already in place. -

Meghan Markle Will Omit 'Obey' from Her Wedding Vows to Prince Harry
by AFRIKANMAN inwhen meghan markle says her royal wedding vows to prince harry on saturday, she’ll be following in the footsteps of princess diana and kate middleton by choosing to omit the traditional promise to “obey” her husband, the palace confirms.. during the ceremony, officiated by archbishop of canterbury justin welby, meghan will tell her royal groom: “i meghan, take you, harry, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part; according to god’s holy law.
in the presence of god i make this vow.”.
the decision doesn’t come as a surprise: meghan has long been a vocal feminist, working with organizations like one world vision to learn about the challenges facing women and girls living in dubai and mumbai.
