"This system will probably be over in about 5 years"
by john.prestor ini don't think i shared this story yet, it's strange and although i did a little detective work trying to figure out who said what and when i never found out much, big surprise, jehovah's witnesses love their secrets as we all know... but i thought other posters might find this interesting both in and of itself, because of what an elder told me one sunday back in 2011, and because of what it could imply as to high-ranking jehovah's witnesses prophesying the date of armageddon.
specific dates went out the window in 1975, although governing body helper ken flodin hinted at 2040 in a talk uploaded to jw.org a couple years back, and the governing body hinted at 2034 in a watchtower back in the 90s.
but it might be, just might, that more specific date-setting still goes on behind closed doors in certain circuits.... so after i went to "meetings" and talked to witnesses for a couple years at a rural congregation in the eastern united states an elder pulled me aside one service into the vestibule at the hall, in other words, into a private area where no one would overhear us.

In the past they've always had the 'within this generation' to use as a biblical basis for their stance but now they have nothing, other than their frenzied suggestions. -

I Am Still Here! Another Birthday look back at one helluva lifetime
by TerryWalstrom inwhen the doctor pulled my screaming body out of mom all those 7 decades ago, i landed in a post-wwii world.the world of 1947--compared to today's world--an alien planet.. the world i live in today has nothing in common with the world in which i grew up.. there were no cell phones back then--there were black telephones with a dial-tone and an operator who placed your call.
everywhere you found telephone booths!
a call was a nickel.where did all those telephone booths go?i dunno.where did my whole world go?i dunno.. tv sets were huge boxes with tubes and small screens.

Thanks for the walk into the past and happy birthday.
I'm a little younger but can remember the clip clop of the horses with their carts of milk, delivering in the early hours of the morning. Washing our glass milk bottles so we could leave them out front for him to replace with full bottles and going out early in the morning on hot summer days before it went sour. -

Rape by Elder led to a life of sexual abuse
by Asian sister ini was raped by two brothers when i was 12 in vancouver.

They played the first part of the AGM as the January 2019 Broadcast and I think they said that they would play the next two episodes within a couple of weeks from that, so it should be out soon.

How to sue the WT over shunning policy. It CAN happen!
by Bad_Wolf inthis is a very good document from a law school exploring religious freedom vs an individuals right to religious freedom without blackmail, pressure, etc, and also explores why certain lawsuits did not win and what it would take to win them.
https://scholarship.law.upenn.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?referer=&httpsredir=1&article=3827&context=penn_law_review.
a person born in, and whose parents or family pressured to shun because they simply left the religion, who has evidence of damages, etc, would likely have a good case if they find a good lawyer.

This is a post I wrote on Reddit not long ago -
A religion can be sued for "intentional infliction of emotional distress" if it can be proven. Note that it must be intentional and of an extreme nature. But this is very interesting and I do hope that someone pursues this in court. Have you seen the organization's policy of when a person becomes suicidal after being called to a JC? The instruction is to immediately back off and wait until things settle down. No doubt, if there was a suicide attempt after the Elders had been made aware of the vulnerability of the victim due to a JC then they could be sued because it could be claimed that the elders actions were deliberate and intentional in causing further distress. It wouldn't surprise me, though, if the Watchtower tried to claim that the victim was not distressed because of the JC but because of their having sinned.
I wonder if the organisation could be sued under this 'intentional infliction of emotional distress' in less serious situations because the organization is fully aware of the distress disfellowshipping has on JWs. They acknowledge it as inflicted discipline, although in Court, I'm sure that the org. would claim that the victim was fully aware and accepted the possibility of being dfd. But I would suggest to anyone being called up to a JC to tell the Elders that they would be extremely distressed if they had to attend or if they were dfd and they would sue the organization if they continued to pursue the JC or dfing on the basis of intentional infliction of emotional distress because they had now been pre warned (therefore a claim for it being intentional)

Simon's Forum Is More Than Just a Forum!
by Atlantis infriends:.
simon's forum is much more than just a forum where we come to expose the watchtower.
it is a place that simon wanted people to be able to come to, to receive help, support, or find a compassionate listener.. this forum has exposed the watchtower more times than any forum on the net.

Thanks Atlantis for starting this thread and at such an appropriate time as a New Year dawns on us.
Its sad to hear that a number of members here are in poor health and I wish them all the strength to endure.
It's also sad to hear the price that Watchtower leakers have had to pay. Most of us can relate to this but we are winning the battle.
It is so good to read those words Atlantis, that the Watchtower is deathly afraid. The Internet has been wonderful in exposing the organization and as you correctly point out, each of those individuals who have worked so hard, using the Internet and other means, are real people with their own stories to tell. I thank them all, for their time, their resources and mostly for the concern that they show their fellow man who are caught in an ugly cult.

Was J.F. Rutherford - Exonerated?
by Amazing inone of the cornerstones of the watchtower society's claims about the 1918 trial of joseph f. rutherford and seven other co-defendants, is that the trial was a travesty of justice, where the defendants were railroaded off to prison.. to make their point, the society has repeatedly stated that joseph rutherford and his fellow defendants were "exonerated" of all charges, and subsequently released from prison fully vindicated.
the society also attributed this 'victory' to jehovah's hand in matters, restoring the symbolic 'two witnesses' spoken of in revelation, and thereby, reactivating the kingdom preaching work.. what actually transpired is that the convicted defendants filed a petition for a "writ of error.
" (trial transcript, pages 1-10, parts 1-30 ) the writ of error was allowed by the trial court, judge howe, and granted by the district court judge chatfield, whom the society earlier objected to and had removed from their trial, because they felt he would not be fair to them.. what does this mean?

It's no coincidence that in the January 2019 Broadcast when discussing a brief history of the organization, they are now saying simply, that they were released from jail.
Another milestone for the organization to celebrate this year is 100 years since the release of Rutherford from prison and the appointment of the FDS. -

At 1.4% growth the last 2 years, it's safe to say, jw.org and cart witnessing is an abject failure!
by nowwhat? inso much for jehovah blessing this new arrangement.
they are barely keeping up with the birthrate!
so basically the org spent millions of dollars on their website and broadcasting so the only growth they are still getting comes from born ins and illiterate and superstitious folks from africa.

It also means that JW dot org, JW broadcasting and all their recent changes are a failure. Their whole business is supposed to be about recruiting people and they are failing.
